Billy Da Kid Throws Down on New Remix of IceBeatChillz’s “AREA” featuring Beenie Man

Nigerian producer IceBeatChillz made his 2020 debut with the single “AREA” featuring Jamaican dancehall legend Beenie Man. It released to rave reviews and is now getting a 2021 rework from Billy Da Kid. For the new remix, he takes the production and gives it a thumping bassline that makes it nearly impossible to resist dancing to.  On the original, IceBeatChillz gave “AREA” an undeniable swagger and Billy Da Kid builds on that, turning up the pace on the club-ready remix. He adds in an electrifying bass and synth kick that is sure to get the party started. Finally, Beenie Man’s iconic vocals get their chance to shine once again, matching perfectly with the updated styling.  By tapping Billy Da Kid for a remix, IceBeatChillz has expanded his fanb...

200 Fractures Later, This DJ With Brittle Bone Disease is Beating the Odds

Electronic dance music is in DJ Huguito‘s bones. And while those bones are fragile, at the risk of fracture by contact with anything larger than a curious ladybug landing on his skin, his passion for dance music keeps them strong. Like the bone marrow that generates his blood cells, music serves as a catalyst. DJ Huguito is a Miami-based dance music producer born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta, or Brittle Bone Disease, a malady characterized by extremely fragile bones that break easily. While the condition can be mild, a person with a severe case could experience hundreds of debilitating bone breaks that happen out of the blue and for no apparent reason. Approximately 20,000 to 50,000 people in the United States live with the rare disorder. “I entered this world li...

Grimes and Lil Uzi Vert Have Been Working on Music Together

Lil Uzi Vert shocked and excited fans when he revealed that he was working with none other than Grimes – stating that they’re “making hits.” Last year, the synthpop songstress dropped Miss Anthropocene to rave reviews. She followed that up in 2021 with a full remix album featuring numerous high-profile electronic artists, including Richie Hawtin, Tale of Us, and REZZ.  As of the publication of this article, their new music is still very much in production. According to Grimes, they still need to finish the project. In 2019, she shared during an interview with Zane Lowe that she had actually produced one of Lil Uzi’s EPs but sadly, the rapper never downloaded the file.  Stay tuned as more information regarding the collaboration...

San Holo Announces Sophomore Album “BB U OK?” New Single Out Now

“Biggest announcement in San Holo history… February 3rd,” the future bass producer mysteriously wrote on his social media channels last week. Well, it’s February 3rd, and we can indeed confirm that this news is gigantic: his sophomore album, BB U OK?, is officially due May 21st, 2021 via his imprint, bitbird. The LP will be a monster 20-track project comprised of his “most personal work,” he revealed in a recent Instagram post.  Even more, the announcement coincides with the release of a new song from the album, “find your way” with Bipolar Sunshine. With uplifting lyrics, a fluttering bass drop, and carefully placed guitar chords, the track is the perfect follow-up to the titular lead single, “bb u ok?,” relea...

Hayley Williams Lays It Bare on Intimate Sophomore Record FLOWERS for VASES / descansos: Review

The Lowdown: Hayley Williams has never been afraid to use her voice. Since exploding onto the pop-punk scene in 2004 as the frontwoman of Paramore, her name has been synonymous with expansive, acrobatic vocals. She’s also not afraid to use her voice in another sense, though — ask anyone in Nashville and you hear some variation of it: “Hayley Williams is a real one.” Since being discovered at just 14 and spending the majority of her life in the spotlight, she’s become a confident voice in music, present in conversations around mental health and aligning herself with groups like Teens4Equality. On her sophomore solo effort, FLOWERS for VASES / descansos, that growth is reflected more personally and intimately than ever before. She strips it all down: every part of the record was written and ...

Metallica Perform “Enter Sandman” on Super Bowl Edition of Colbert: Watch

Metallica rocked a special Super Bowl edition of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Sunday night. The metal masters offered up a rousing rendition of “Enter Sandman”, set against a special backdrop that paid homage to the band’s recent concert history. Entering their 40th year as a band, Metallica sounded as strong as ever on the late-night performance, with frontman James Hetfield delivering a powerful vocal. The metal icons played in front of a stack of speaker cabinets from various tours and special concerts of the past 20 years, including shows at Yankee Stadium (“Mariano Rivera Day”), Oracle Park (San Francisco Giants “Metallica Night”), and the band’s own 2013 Orion Music + More Festival in Detroit, among others. The pandemic forced Metallica off the road in 2020, but the metal le...

2021 Super Bowl: 12 Best Commercials

VoiceNotes Another surprise get came with T-Mobile’s Super Bowl ad, a hilariously shady meet-cute tale that ostensibly told the story of how the seemingly diametrically opposed musical celebs Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton ended up together. It involved Adam Levine, a poor cell connection, some clever writing, and a whole lotta secrecy to keep it under wraps until its Sunday debut. Some Good Buds Post Malone, Cedric the Entertainer, the Bud Knight, the guy who tearily says “I Love You, Man” and other Bud commercial fan faves teamed up for Bud Light Legends commercial. With Budweiser’s advertising focus shifted to Bud Light, we have truly entered a PostMapocalyptic World. I Just Opened My Mouth and Out It Okurrrrrr It’s a testament to the brilliant simplicity o...

The Kid Laroi Sets Australian Chart Record

F*ck Love (Savage) debuted at No. 3 in August 2020 under its original title, F*ck Love, and returned to that peak position in November after the release of the deluxe edition, F*ck Love (Savage). “Huge congratulations to The Kid Laroi on hitting the top of the ARIA Albums Chart,” comments ARIA’s newly appointed CEO, Annabelle Herd. “This is an incredible feat for an artist of any age and, with audiences around the world embracing his music, it is obviously just the beginning.” The mixtape climbs to the top for the first time in its 28th week on the chart. Also, The Kid Laroi (real name Charlton Howard) becomes the second male indigenous solo artist to top the chart after Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu did so in April 2018 with his posthumous release Djarimirri (Child Of The Rainbow). The...

Celeste Snags U.K. No. 1 With ‘Not Your Muse’

With her hot start, Celeste becomes the first British female artist to top the tally with their debut album in more than five years, since Jess Glynne’s I Cry When I Laugh in November 2015. Not Your Muse leads an all-new Top 4. Celeste’s debut holds off Money Can’t Buy Happiness (Since 93), the second album from London rapper Fredo. It’s new at No. 2 and is the U.K.’s most-streamed album of the week. Also new is singer, songwriter and poet Arlo Parks’ first LP Collapsed In Sunbeams (Transgressive), which starts at No. 3, while Steven Wilson’s The Future Bites (SW Records) opens at No. 4. Harry Styles completes the Top 5 with Fine Line (Columbia), up 6-5. U.K. rapper Chip bags a Top 10 entry with his new mixtape Snakes & Ladders, new at No 7, while post-punk outfit Goat Girl ...

Ladies And Gentlemen, The Weeknd

Even Daniel Craig would agree: The Weeknd hardly needs an introduction. On one of the world’s biggest stages Sunday night (February 7), at the Super Bowl LV halftime show, he demonstrated why. In a career-spanning set that bounded from his early pop hits to his current smashes, Abel Tesfaye embraced his status as a global pop star via an intricate, multi-part spectacle centered around his vision. Of course, in order to pull that off, you have to have the songs. And Abel has them, as he showcased, beginning with a red blazer-adorned stop on the Las Vegas strip, complete with a full choir of glowing angels summoning him onto the field. “Starboy,” naturally, was his introduction, and he delivered the tune with sunglasses in hand in front of his slightly mechanized glowing le...

Excision’s Subsidia Records Drops Bone-Shattering “Night Vol. 3” Compilation

Excision‘s Subsidia Records is on a roll, delivering back to back compilations that have blown us away. The team has returned and is ready to do it all over again with their next offering, Night Vol. 3. For the uninitiated, Subsidia has broken down their compilations into three series. There is the melodically-focused Dawn, the wonky and weird Dusk, and the unrelentingly-heavy collection, Night.  Volumes one and two of the Night series, which debuted in September and December of last year respectively, hosted a barrage of bass from the likes of YOOKIE, Kompany, JEANIE, TYNAN, and of course Excision. Vol. 3 follows this successful formula and features a combination of heavyweights such as Bear Grillz, Skellism, Monxx, Jessica Audiffred, Fel...
