SiriusXM is the foremost source of satellite radio, where users can choose channels that play some of their favorite genres and music from their favorite artists. In the EDM corner, Diplo has been holding it down with the Diplo’s Revolution channel, among other genre-based channels like Chill, BPM Discovery, Utopia, and Studio 54 Radio. Now, SiriusXM has brought two more superstar artists into the fold to host their very own channels. Trance legend Armin van Buuren and EDM renaissance man Steve Aoki have received their own airspace courtesy of the radio giant. van Buuren’s channel, A State of Armin, will of course feature the latest and greatest in trance and progressive, as well as some genre classics from the famed producer himself and many other...
Chicago-based producer SPADES has returned today, offering up his latest EP, Divisions. Comprised of three tracks, the EP reinvigorates his reputation as a sonic innovator and furthers his status as one of the bass scene’s “next-up” acts. SPADES is the brainchild of Chicago-native Joe Grothe. Inspired by an array of different musical styles, textures, and backgrounds, he has emerged onto the scene as someone constantly pushing the boundaries between subgenres. “I called the EP “Divisions” because every song is a combination of 2 separate songs,” said SPADES. “I started [each] at different times [and later] combined them together to make [Divisions].” The EP’s first single, “Divisions,” premiered in January via Headbang Societ...
Monstercat has been on a hot streak as of late. In the last few weeks alone, they’ve seen a slew of massive releases from Feint, The Bloody Beetroots, Rameses B, and Stonebank, as well as an epic crossover livestream with esports organization, Team Liquid. Now, the label sees a mammoth team-up between three powerful musical forces on its latest release, “Last Summer.” The collaboration is the work of the ever-elusive Tokyo Machine, international stars Weird Genius, and famed vocalist Lights. “Last Summer” perfectly encapsulates the emotions of the title, with bright and warm arpeggiated synth work, future bass-inspired chords, and of course, an energetic and nostalgic vocal performance from Lights. Though the single comes mid-winter for the northern hemisphere, its release coinc...
FIRSTBORNE, the band featuring Grammy Award-winning artist Chris Adler and fellow MEGADETH alum James LoMenzo, has just released “Soul Control” as a Bandcamp exclusive track for Bandcamp Friday. This is the first song that FIRSTBORNE worked on as a complete band and traces the roots of its music back to the earliest stages of Chris assembling the group. “Soul Control” was mastered by Arthur Rizk (POWER TRIP, IRON AGE) and can be streamed below. FIRSTBORNE singer Girish Pradhan stated about the track: “Chris and I were in the green room after finishing our gig in Bangalore a few years back. He was, like, ‘Hey I got some friends making music together. Myrone, James LoMenzo. You wanna try out the vocals?’, passed his phone to me and played a demo trac...
Cleopatra Entertainment has acquired North American rights to “Baphomet”, a horror film from writer-director Matthan Harris. “Baphomet” tells the tale of an American family (the Richardsons) celebrating their daughter’s pregnancy, but things begin to go awry when Satanic cult leader Henrik Brandr unexpectedly visits their ranch. Henrik offers to pay the family a large sum for ownership of their land, claiming it is sacred to his congregation. Jacob Richardson, the father, rejects the offer due to the sentimental value of his ranch. Henrik, displeased, begins to put curses on the Richardsons, trying to force them off of their own land — even if it means murdering them. After suffering unexplainable tragedies created by the curses, the Richardsons seek help from...
German metal icon Doro Pesch recently went on “Side Jams with Bryan Reesman” to talk about her martial arts training, her work with animal welfare, controversy over working with PETA, and a new song inspired by her love of animals. She spoke about how she began doing Thai boxing back in 1995, and recently she was been practicing a style of kung fu called Wing Chun. “I think it was created by a nun, and she was teaching a little girl,” she explained. “The girl’s name was Wing Chun, and she was married to a very violent, brutal guy who was always beating her up. So this nun taught her how to defend herself, even when somebody is really thin and small. I thought, that’s really nice. So when we play in clubs… in bad neighborhoods, I think I can d...

Phoebe Bridgers proved to be one of the few bright spots of 2020, as the talented Los Angeles-based songwriter managed to become a full-blown superstar while hunkered down in quarantine. She released one of the year’s best albums with Punisher. She then proceeded to deliver memorable covers of Radiohead, John Prine, and Goo Goo Dolls; launched her very own record label; made a music video with Phoebe Waller-Bridge; and recorded and released another collection of music with Copycat Killer EP. All the while, she masterfully navigated the limitations of performing remotely, setting a standard that few have been able to match (see: her bathtub performance on Kimmel, her karaoke rendition of “Kyoto” on Colbert, and her NPR Tiny Desk set, to name just a few). For her efforts, Bridgers was honore...
The spot recalls past patriotic, emotional Super Bowl spots also overseen by Francois while at Fiat Chrysler Automobile, such as Eminem’s 2011 “Made in America” commercial and the 2013 Ram ad “Farmer.” (FCA and Groupe PSA merged earlier this year to form Stellantis.) Like those previous short films, “The Middle” features sweeping footage of great expanses of America’s heartland, as Springsteen voices a narrative about a chapel in Lebanon, Kansas — “standing on the exact center of the lower 48. It never closes, all are more than welcome” — before going into broader themes about how divided we have become. “It’s no secret, the middle has been a hard place to get to lately, between red and blue…between our freedom and our fear,” he continues. Springsteen appears in the ad, d...
The string of Saturday Night Live debuts continued last night, when Phoebe Bridgers took the stage of the Dan Levy-hosted episode. Decked out her trademark skeleton onesie, Bridgers performed “Kyoto” and “I Know the End,” both her latest album Punisher, which was released last June. At the end of the “I Know the End,” Bridgers smashed her guitar on the stage monitor and literal sparks flew while doing so. Watch the performances below. [embedded content] [embedded content] Bridgers had quite the impressive year in 2020. Aside from releasing one of the best albums (and best song) of the year, she also launched her own record label, Saddest Factory, in partnership with her current label Dead Oceans. “One of my favorite things about this time is that everybody is liste...
