The Weeknd Will Have No Special Guests at Super Bowl Halftime Show

It’s been entertaining to see the different reactions across the dance music world when word broke that The Weeknd would be the Super Bowl LV halftime performer. Every year, when the artist is chosen, the rumor mills start buzzing due in part to the fact that it’s one of the most-watched events of the year and that the halftime headliner often brings out high-profile guests. This year was no different. While R&B and pop fans were excited to see the three-time Grammy Award-winning superstar on the call sheet, the EDM community took the news in a different direction. Fans immediately began speculating that this could mean the legendary, yet, elusive duo, Daft Punk, could be joining him on stage. A purported tracklist was even shared, sparking the rumors fu...

Malaa Drops Deep House Remix of Alison Wonderland and Valentino Khan’s “Anything”

If you are looking for an unforgettable deep house remix for your single, you go to Malaa. The masked French producer was called upon by Alison Wonderland and Valentino Khan to unleash his expertise on their dance-pop anthem “Anything,” and the result is everything we could have hoped for. The remix, which was teased last week, arrived today via Mad Decent. “Anything” exploded onto the scene when it was released in late-November of last year, garnering over 5 million streams on Spotify and charting on the Triple J Hot 200 list. The Pardon My French member took what was already gold and spiced it up even further, giving it a dark and brooding makeover. It’s blasted with his signature sinister stylings, making it read...

Seven Lions Reimagines His Classics With 90s-Style Trance EP

Seven Lions dropped a six-track EP, Seven Lions: 1999 EP, harkening back to the 90s rave scene with new spins on some of his biggest classics. The total package includes four reimagined trance remixes and two extended editions. Fans received a first glimpse of the producer’s approach to these remixes last week, with the release of his nostalgic “Rush Over Me” remix. Seven Lions turns up the danceability on the classic melodic dubstep original, retrofitting it with pumping trance drums and vintage synth patches. The formula follows a similar suit with his new “Days To Come” and “Worlds Apart” remixes as dancing melodic arpeggios underpin shining vocals from both Fiora and Kerli respectively. Closing things out with “Higher Love,̶...

Martin Garrix and Tove Lo Release Intimate Future Pop Collaboration, “Pressure”

Martin Garrix‘s first release of the year has arrived – a collaboration alongside the “Talking Body” songstress, Tove Lo. When EDM.com connected with Martin Garrix late last year, he went on the record saying that he felt he was producing his “craziest music ever” and he could hardly wait to reveal what was on the horizon. Today, fans finally have a first look at what the producer has been diligently working on. Garrix’s latest, “Pressure,” burns bright and long with Tove Lo’s alluring vocals taking a central focus throughout. Interestingly enough, “Pressure” forgoes the route of a festival anthem one might expect with two major artists of this caliber and persuasion joining forces. Instead, Martin Garrix treats &...

29-Year-Old Singer Of Hungarian Metal Band AWS Dies After Battle With Leukemia

Örs Siklósi, lead singer of the Hungarian post-hardcore/modern metal act AWS, died on February 5 after a battle with leukemia. He was only 29 years old. Internationally, AWS is best known for representing Hungary in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2018. The surviving members of AWS, short for ANTS WITH SLIPPERS, announced Örs‘s death in a social media post earlier today (Saturday, February 6). “To say the unspeakable, to write what no words can describe,” they wrote. “This is what we need to do now. “Last June Örs had been diagnosed with leukaemia and now we are deeply saddened to inform you that he passed away yesterday. “He wanted to open up about his illness last month, he had planned to release his first solo record this Spring and we were set to make...

GENE SIMMONS Says ‘Young Fans’ Are Responsible For ‘Killing’ Rock Music

Gene Simmons has once again said that rock is dead, insisting that newer artists will never get the chance at success that bands like KISS did. While rock ‘n’ roll has been king of the music world for decades, in the past few years, it’s been unseated by the growing popularity of hip-hop. This has caused many pundits to proclaim the genre “dead” from an industry perspective, noting that it has been eclipsed in all measures by pop, hip-hop, and EDM. Simmons spoke about rock’s supposed diminishing status during a new interview with Jonathan Clarke of New York’s Q104.3 radio station. Asked if he meant his original “rock is dead” comment in terms of radio airplay or streaming numbers, Gene said: “In all ways. And the culprits are the ...

GARY HOLT Says EXODUS ‘Crushed’ METALLICA When The Two Bands Shared The Stage 35 Years Ago

In a new interview with DEATH ANGEL‘s Ted Aguilar as part of the “Alive & Streaming” YouTube series, Gary Holt reflected on EXODUS‘s legendary New Year’s Eve gig in San Francisco with METALLICA, as the two bands rang in the year 1986 along with MEGADETH and METAL CHURCH. “We crushed METALLICA,” the EXODUS guitarist said. “And look, I’m not gloating — we crushed ’em, and they knew it. It was their big homecoming. They just finished recording ‘Master Of Puppets’, and we came out, and we had more amps, we had a bigger riser. We came out looking like the headliners. And we were partying hard after, and James [Hetfield, METALLICA frontman] comes up, and we were just getting wasted. [And he said,] ‘That’ll be...

GREAT WHITE’s MARK KENDALL Doesn’t Know If He Will Ever Play With JACK RUSSELL Again

GREAT WHITE guitarist Mark Kendall says that he doesn’t know if he will ever perform again with the band’s original lead singer, Jack Russell. Russell exited GREAT WHITE in December 2011 after he was unable to tour with the group due a series of injuries, including a perforated bowel and a shattered pelvis. Jack largely blamed these injuries on his alcohol and painkiller addictions as well as the prednisone drug he was prescribed. In a new chat with SIN CITY REJECTS‘ Jason Green, Kendall stated about GREAT WHITE‘s decision to carry on without RussellJack again, Mark said; “If I saw him somewhere, I wouldn’t run away or anything. I don’t think we would get in a fight. There’s never been any mean intentions or bad thoughts or anything like that...

Eyehategod Unleash New Song “Built Beneath the Lies”: Stream

Eyehategod have shared a new single, “Built Beneath the Lies”, from their highly anticipated album, A History of Nomadic Behavior, out March 12th. With each new single, the NOLA vets have offered another catchy slice of grooving sludge metal. “Built Beneath the Lies” is driven by a fuzzy riff and has a more hectic punk approach — the aural backdrop for some seriously filthy vocals from Mike IX Williams. “’Built Beneath the Lies’ is another acidic Eyehategod song playing in the background while the back alleys burn with nervous alcoholic tension and people all over cancel their summer plans to stare at the wall,” Williams said of the track in his typically sardonic manner. Williams’ vocals are placed high in the mix, giving added emphasis to the lyrics. Once again, the words and title ...

50 Cent and Steve Aoki Host Maskless Super Bowl Parties

When 50 Cent said, “You can find me in the club, bottle full of bub,” apparently he even meant during the middle of a raging plague. On Friday night, the day after over 5,000 US residents died of COVID-19 in a 24-hour period, the veteran rapper and DJ Steve Aoki each hosted massive Super Bowl parties where attendees behaved like it was 2019. According to two separate TMZ reports, 50 Cent’s airport hanger shindig in St. Petersburg and Aoki’s poolside bonanza in Tampa were filled with maskless partygoers who made no effort to social distance or even pretend to acknowledge COVID-19 restrictions. In video posted by TMZ, a maskless Aoki cracks open bottles of champagne and sprays them into the mouths of fans, also maskless, who are giddily dancing at the front of the barrier. Eventual...

BRS Kash’s ‘Throat Baby’ Shoots Into Top 10 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart

Already a radio hit, “Throat Baby” improves its standing on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, ascending 6-5. The track climbs to 15.1 million in format audience in the week ending Jan. 31, a 5% bump from the prior tracking week. Despite the gains in consumption metrics, the original version of “Throat Baby” slightly outperforms the remix in weekly activity on the chart, which combines sales, streams and airplay. Thus, DaBaby and City Girls do not receive billing on the chart, though the situation could change in future weeks if the remix version provides the majority share of the pair. Elsewhere, “Throat Baby” maintains its status as the third-most played song on MRC Data’s monitored R&B/hip-hop radio stations as it retains a No. 3 rank on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart. Yet, thou...
