The coronavirus has made everything from before 2020 feel like ancient history, but back in 2019 Marvel announced that they were rebooting Blade with a new film starring Mahershala Ali. There hasn’t been any major developments since its initial announcement, but now Marvel Studios have revealed that Watchmen writer Stacy Osei-Kuffour has been tapped to pen the script. In addition to her role in the Emmy-winning HBO mini-series, Osei-Kuffour earned an Emmy nomination for her writing on Hulu’s Pen15, and she was also a story editor on Amazon Prime’s Hunters and HBO’s Run. According to The Hollywood Reporter, her prestigious position in the vampire-hunting blockbuster was solidified after six months of a “meticulous search” for suitable writers that Ali was directly involved in. Foo Fighters just dropped their latest album Medicine at Midnight yesterday, and they’re keeping the content coming. This morning, they unleashed the official video for “No Son of Mine,” which features audio recorded live at Studio 606. The clip splices Danny Clinch-filmed footage of the band performing the song with animation from Bomper Studios. “This is the kind of song that just resides in all of us and if it makes sense at the time, we let it out,” Dave Grohl wrote in a letter about the song upon its initial release. “Lyrically it’s meant to poke at the hypocrisy of self righteous leaders, people that are guilty of committing the crimes they’re supposedly against…” Watch the “No Son of Mine” video below. Benny The Butcher’s love for his hometown Buffalo Bills is well established so we know the man is still hurting from their playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Still, the man won’t stop reppin’ and we can’t blame him. In his latest visuals for “Trade It All,” Benny The Butcher holds court in the middle of the football field in Bills Stadium before he rolls through his city with his crew in tow. Hopefully Benny will be celebrating a Buffalo Bills Super Bowl championship next year. From Upstate NY to New York City, Jim Jones keeps Harlem a-rocking and for his clip to “Lose Lose” braves a monster blizzard and even rides a bike through the snow. That was lowkey random but whatever. Check out the rest of today’s drops including work from Snow Tha Product, Rock Balla, and more. BENNY THE BUTC...
By Max Freedman Only toward the end of my Zoom chat with Tamara Lindeman does the painting behind her fully come into view. When Lindeman, who’s at her home in Toronto, moves slightly to her left, behind her appears a portrait of deep blue waves crashing against a sandy shore below gorgeous, distant hills under a sunset. “It is very perfectly me,” Lindeman says of the painting, and now that we’ve talked extensively about Ignorance, her equally timely and timeless fifth album as The Weather Station, I have to agree. On Ignorance, Lindeman’s lyricism overflows with natural imagery — sunsets, oceans, birds, flora — as she ruminates on how our de-prioritization of nature and the world around us ties into our growing isolation from one another. “The disconnection from each other is the same as ...
Dr. Drew has a storied history on MTV — from hosting the always drama-filled Teen Mom reunions to answering relationship-themed calls on Loveline. But can the addiction specialist help Angelina and Jenni squash their beef and help bring the Jersey Shore family back together? After a tension-filled, awkward funeral dinner, desperate times called for desperate measures (the mediation, double booking and gathering around the table just wasn’t working). Enter Ronnie’s deep contact list — and a professional to execute the “last resort.” “I have Dr. Drew’s number,” he told Vinny. “When I was going through that sh*t, he connected me and helped me find the treatment center.” The “good dude” called Ronnie back while he wa...
2020 is dead, long live 2021! Cardi B dropped her latest music video for her new single “Up” at midnight on Friday (February 5), and with it, a eulogy for a bum year. The follow-up to the record-breaking smash collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion, “WAP“, which released seven months prior in August, she’s put the past behind her and is looking toward the sky — or at least toward an album release, set to arrive in the coming months. “Up” is a bumping bop that riffs from the catchy refrain: “If it’s up, then it’s up, then it’s up, then it’s stuck.” The video kicks off with Cardi twerking in a graveyard over a crypt marked “R.I.P. 2020” in full, chandelier crystal-encrusted funeral attire, complete...
San Diego rapper Amon has found a level of smooth that’s all his own, and it’s on full display in his latest single, “Uglee.” Dating in the 21st century is the topic of conversation, and he tells it like it is from the first lyric: “I’m in lust.” Amon brings grounded energy to every line he raps, making you privy to a late-night conversation as he talks about falling for ladies “superb and attractive and out of my league.” Naturally, the dreamy video finds him scrolling on his phone, sitting cross-legged in bed, reporting live from the apps. With an infectious smile, it’s hard not to get excited alongside him, even if your Tinder pool leaves something to be desired. —Carson Mlnarik You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. Allen v. Farrow (HBO) HBO has shared the first teaser trailer for Allen v. Farrow, a four-part documentary about the allegations that Woody Allen sexually abused his daughter Dylan Farrow. The first episode debuts Sunday, February 21st, with new installments arriving on subsequent Sundays. From 1979 to 1992, Allen and Mia Farrow made 13 films together and had three children, two adopted and one biological. Their relationship unraveled after Farrow discovered Allen had begun a sexual relationship with 21-year-old Soon-Yi Previn, Farrow’s adopted daughter from a previous relationship. Soon afterwards, then seven-year-old Dylan accused Allen of sexually molesting her in Farrow’s home. Allen has repeatedly denied the allegations and suggested that she was pushed to make the claims by...
