DAVID ELLEFSON On Upcoming MEGADETH Album: ‘It Doesn’t Make Sense To Drop A Brand New Record In The Middle Of A Pandemic’

In a new interview with U.K.’s TotalRock Radio, MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson spoke about the band’s plans for the coming months. He said (see video below): “We’re working on album number sixteen, and just finishing it up now. We’ve got a big year of touring lined up — festivals in Europe; the big ‘The Metal Tour Of The Year’ [with LAMB OF GOD] is rescheduled for July and August this year; Rock In Rio in Brazil in September. And it’s all confirmed, but it depends on what — COVID has a say in this matter, unfortunately. So there’s this undecided third factor spinning over there with the pandemic that we’re just all doing the best we can to play around that. And the same with the MEGADETH release schedule, being able to put things...

The Weather Station: Ignorance

Because her lyrics are often the focus, and because the accompanying music could most succinctly be described as “folk,” Tamara Lindeman has a singing voice that is easy to overlook. But it is where much of her power lies. The 36-year-old songwriter and former child actress from Toronto is not the kind of singer who demands your attention but the type who doesn’t seem to care whether you’re listening at all: Dipping between her hushed lower register and a breezy falsetto, her delivery flows as an internal monologue. By listening closely, you are sharing her headspace, invited into a private world. Her songs are anthems for those of us accustomed to spending long stretches of time in silence, or being asked repeatedly “What are you thinking about?” This introverted style has suited Lindeman...

Ex-QUIET RIOT Singer JAMES DURBIN On FRANKIE BANALI: ‘At His Core, He Was A Good Guy’

James Durbin says that “creative differences” were to blame for his exit from QUIET RIOT. In September 2019, QUIET RIOT parted ways with Durbin and replaced him with Jizzy Pearl. Pearl previously fronted QUIET RIOT from 2013 until October 2016, when he was briefly replaced by Seann Nichols, who played only five shows with the group before the March 2017 arrival of “American Idol” finalist Durbin. Durbin recorded two studio albums with QUIET RIOT — 2017’s “Road Rage” and 2019’s “Hollywood Cowboys” — during his three-year stint with the group. Speaking about why he left QUIET RIOT just two months before the release of “Hollywood Cowboys”, Durbin told Jeff Gaudiosi of MisplacedStraws.com (see video below): “Creative...

The Sonic Youth guitarist/singer shared the new music on Bandcamp in time for Bandcamp Fridays. He hasn’t been slacking during the pandemic. Brent Faiyaz’s Hell of a Year

“Everything I do is organic,” Brent Faiyaz says when asked about his songwriting process. “I don’t even really calculate this shit like that,” he continues. “I’m actually surprised that I do put out music in a timely fashion.” The 25-year-old R&B vocalist has, in fact, put out plenty of music since his 2013 EP Black Child. The Maryland-based artist has since released five EPs, one of which was with his side project Sonder, and a studio album, 2017’s Sonder Son. In the meantime, he has a single, “Gravity,” with Tyler, the Creator, and an upcoming song titled “Show You Off,” slated for International Women’s Day in March. Even aside from his music, he’s spent time modeling for Calvin Klein as part of a collaboration with Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free’s new company, pgLang.  “It’s cool...

[embedded content] “When I conceived possibly doing another record with the guys from System of a Down a few years back, I started working on a set of songs that I arranged in rock format for that purpose,” Tankian said in a statement. “As we weren’t able to see eye to eye on the vision going forward with an SOAD album, I decided to release these songs under my moniker.” Late last year, System of a Down released their first new music in nearly 15 years. Tankian has stayed in the news with u...
