GRAND FUNK RAILROAD Co-Founder MARK FARNER Blasts ‘Fake’ ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME

In a brand new interview with Sofa King Cool, former GRAND FUNK RAILROAD singer Mark Farner was asked how it feels to see various rap and hip-hop artists inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame before the band he co-founded more than five decades ago. He responded (see video below): “Well, it just shows the illegitimacy of that Rock Hall. And the people are definitely smart enough to know this. They need to be reminded, though, that the Rock Hall is not a representation of the will of the people; it is a representation of the will of the owners of the Rock Hall. That’s what it is, and it is super political. And Steve Miller didn’t have a good time there. I read some stuff that I just feel for him. “You know something? I feel great about receiving the Cherokee M...

JON BON JOVI’s Advice To Young Artists: Find Your Own Way To Reinvent The Wheel

In the latest installment of “Mavericks With Ari Melber”, a MSNBC series of interviews with artists, musicians and cultural icons, Rock And Roll Hall Of Famer Jon Bon Jovi opens up about his songwriting, from classics like “Livin’ On A Prayer” to new ballads about COVID-19 and the BLM protests; why he runs his band like a CEO; and how he has learned to measure true success. Speaking about the advice he would give to younger artists looking to break into the music industry, Jon said (see video below): “I got a record deal in such a unique way that I don’t know how I was so smart to think of it. But I said, ‘Who is the loneliest man in the record business?’ And my answer to myself was, ‘The DJ.’ And so I went and I knocked on ...

DEEN CASTRONOVO’s Exit From THE DEAD DAISIES Explained

THE DEAD DAISIES‘ Glenn Hughes and Doug Aldrich have opened up about the recent departure of Deen Castronovo. The drummer announced his exit from the group two days after THE DEAD DAISIES‘ publicist revealed that Tommy Clufetos (BLACK SABBATH, OZZY OSBOURNE, ROB ZOMBIE, TED NUGENT, ALICE COOPER) will rejoin the band when they hit the road in support of their new album, “Holy Ground”. Clufetos previously toured with THE DEAD DAISIES in 2015. During an appearance earlier today (Tuesday, February 2) on SiriusXM‘s “Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk”, Aldrich stated about Castronovo‘s decision to leave THE DEAD DAISIES: “Deen was having a hard time with some back problems. We got together and played in October of last year, and he was struggling...

Angelus Apatrida – ANGELUS APATRIDA

RATING: 8/10 2020 was a phenomenal year for thrash, but this is no time for complacency. Someone needs to keep the wrecking ball spinning, and ANGELUS APATRIDA have kindly stepped up to the plate. The Spaniards have been cultivating a formidable reputation for the last 20 years, releasing a series of increasingly impressive records that deftly bridged the divide between old-school tropes and a more timely, progressive strain of extremity. Their last album, “Cabaret de la Guillotine” was an absolute beast and seemed to indicate that a more sophisticated and adventurous band was emerging. With that in mind, “Angelus Apatrida” is a big surprise: not because it lacks any of the intriguing details that made recent albums so enjoyable, but because this album is so utterly...

Unborn Baby Records Debut Album

For decades, musicians have recorded music with the specific intent of helping foster child development in utero and teach soon-to-be kids iconic rap hooks. Now the tables have turned: an unborn baby has recorded her debut album, presumably for the enjoyment of full-grown humans. The baby, named Luca Yupanqui, is the soon-to-be child of Psychic Ills bassist Elizabeth Hart and Lee “Scratch” Perry collaborator Iván Diaz Mathé. Yupanqui created the songs on her album using biosonic MIDI technology that translated her in-utero movements into sound. The MIDI device was hooked to Hart’s stomach, recorded the vibrations created by Yupanqui, and transcribed them into Mathé’s synthesizers, a meditative process that took place over five hour-long sessions. Hart and Mathé then edited and mixed the re...

Rostam Shares New Solo Song “These Kids We Knew”: Stream

Last month, Rostam set Amanda Gorman’s now-famous Inauguration poem to music using piano arrangements. The former Vampire Weekend member is back today, this time with a dazzling original song of his own dubbed “These Kids We Knew”. Stream it below. This new offering revolves around a musical pulse meant to reflect the innocence of youth and the impermanence of stability. According to a press release, Rostam wrote “These Kids We Knew” in a “fever-dream state” in March of last year — during which he was recovering from COVID-19 — while reflecting on the push and pull of societal responsibility. “I was thinking of three generations while I was writing this song,” he explained. “There’s a generation of adults who don’t see global warming as their problem because they think they won’t...

Tessa Thompson and Ruth Negga Steal the Screen In Passing: Sundance 2021 Review

This review is part of our Sundance 2021 coverage. The Pitch: Based on Nella Larsen’s 1929 novel of the same name, Passing follows Irene (Tessa Thompson) and Clare (Ruth Negga), two mixed-race women who can walk through life passing for white. While Clare revels in this, Irene wears it with disdain, and when the duo reunite, all hell breaks loose up in Harlem. The Standout: It’s like director Rebecca Hall knew 2021 would be the perfect time to premiere her debut film at Sundance. Her first feature tackles the issue of colorism–something that’s so pervasive and transparent now more than ever. It’s a subject that’s previously been explored in films such as Queen, Imitation of Life, School Daze, and Skin, but Passing stands out by compounding the challenges of colorism and the violence of the...
