More than 40 years ago in Chicago’s underground club scene, the foundational wave of modern dance music was just starting to hit its stride. It was the 1980s, and house music was booming. Following the decline of disco fever, pioneering Black DJs like Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy were quickly thrust into the city’s spotlight as they experimented with drum machines and synths in music for the first time, especially the iconic Roland TR-808. Predominantly Black, Latinx and queer audiences flocked to their venues, the Warehouse and the Muzic Box, respectively, drawn in by the inclusive, sanctuary-like scene. It wasn’t long until fabled record labels like Gramaphone and Trax were founded, devoted to spreading the sound of house music across the country and the globe. ...

I don’t wanna give that ...
SUSPECT208 has released “Nicotine”, the first single with its new singer Cody Houston. The track, which can be heard below, arrives less than a month after the departure of Noah Weiland, the son of late STONE TEMPLE PILOTS vocalist Scott Weiland. SUSPECT208, which includes drummer London Hudson (son of GUNS N’ ROSES guitarist Slash) and bassist Tye Trujillo (son of METALLICA bass player Robert Trujillo), announced Weiland‘s departure on January 8. At the time, SUSPECT208 confirmed that it had fired Noah, explaining that he “was not writing lyrics or lifting his weight in the band for two months before we let him go. He was heading down a dark path of drug use that got in the way of our friendship as well as the band. Lastly, there were many instances of blow-u...

I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission.” The pair were in a romantic relationship that began when Wood was 19 and Manson was 38. Many struggling musicians dream of the phone call that radically alters their career. For most, it remains a fantasy. The phone never rings. Or seemingly promising conversations with industry grifters don’t pan out. For Morray, the 28-year-old North Carolina native behind some of the most soulful trap music in contemporary rap, the call came in the darkest hour of his career. Last July, Morray lost his job at a call center in his hometown of Fayetteville after taking time off to perform at small venues. He had three kids, his phone was cut off, and few people were listening to his music. After years of slowly saving and paying for studio time and music videos, Morray contemplated never recording again. Then Moe Shalizi saw the video for “Quicksand.” The founder of Shalizi Group — the enter...
