Neil Young Reveals Previously Unreleased 1982 Album Is ‘Coming to You Soon’

“It’s a beautiful records coming to you soon,” Young wrote in the announcement. Johnny’s Island — which is “being prepared for release” on Neil Young Archives — was recorded shortly after his 1982 album, Trans. A specific release date was not provided. A representative for Young tells Billboard that “due to demand from fans, we do have a very aggressive release schedule from Neil this year.” Further details about Johnny’s Island were not available. Earlier this month, Young also announced plans to release a new live album and concert film, Way Down in the Rust Bucket, on Feb. 26 through Reprise Records. The 19-track release documents a 1990 concert with Crazy Horse in Santa Cruz, Calif., and features performances from his al...

Dave Grohl Recalls Being ‘Beaten by Police and Rednecks’ at Anti-Reagan Concerts

Nowadays, when he and the Foo Fighters aren’t busy performing for Democratic presidents (the band played their hit “Times Like These” during the Biden-Harris inauguration special “Celebrating America” on Jan. 20) they’re preparing to release their latest album, Medicine at Midnight, in the midst of a global pandemic. Grohl revealed in the interview that the band was initially told releasing their 10th studio album while the coronavirus has much of the world shut down wasn’t the greatest idea. But an unexpected experience convinced him otherwise — his drum-off with 10-year-old Nandi Bushell. “When the videos went viral, I realized that the only purpose of the band is to bring joy. That’s it. Right?” Grohl shared. “The b...

Fans Choose Selena Gomez & Rauw Alejandro’s ‘Baila Conmigo’ as This Week’s Favorite New Music

The Tainy-produced track, which translates to “Dance With Me,” arrived two weeks after “De Una Vez,” a rhythmic pop song about healing and self-worth. It marked the singer’s first Spanish single in more than a decade. Both songs will appear on Gomez’s all-Spanish EP, Revelación, which is scheduled for release on March 12. Placing second on the past week’s tally with 9% of the vote was the “other” category, followed by Weezer’s latest album, OK Human, in third with almost 5% of the vote. “OK Human was made at a time when humans-playing-instruments was a thing of the past,” the rock band tweeted in mid-January when announcing its 14th album. “All we could do is look back on ancient times when humans really mattered and when th...

R.I.P. Double K, People Under the Stairs Rapper Dead at 43

Double K, the rapper best known for his work as one half of the Los Angeles hip-hop duo People Under the Stairs, has died at the age of 43. On Sunday morning, close friends and collaborators confirmed he passed away, though no cause of death has been revealed. Double K, who was born under the name Michael Turner, grew up sampling music in his free time to create “beat tapes” that he would use while DJing local events. In high school, he went on to join the Log Cabin Crew, a hip-hop collective that included several members of Living Legends, where he further honed his skills as an artist. As a teenager, Double K met his soon-to-be bandmate Christopher “Thes One” Portugal while searching for sample material in the now-defunct record store Martin’s. The two decided to spin their beat tapes fo...

Robert Fripp and Toyah Take on “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll”: Watch

It wouldn’t be Sunday without another fun take on a rock classic by King Crimson founder Robert Fripp and his singer wife, Toyah Willcox. This time, the pair cover “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll”, with Toyah strapping on a guitar to go along with her vocals. Robert and Toyah have become YouTube sensations in recent weeks with their “Sunday Lunch” quarantine performances. They’ve been covering rock classics for a few months now, but they truly went viral earlier this month with a take on Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” — a rendition that saw Toyah riding an exercise bike while wearing a revealing top that garnered thousands of comments filled with euphemisms. They followed with performances of Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell” and Guns N’ Roses’ “Welcome to the Jungle”, and now they’ve graced us with a cover of...

Ben Wheatley’s In The Earth Is a Surprising De Facto Sequel to Annihilation: Review

This review is part of our Sundance 2021 coverage. The Pitch: In The Earth is Ben Wheatley’s welcome return to horror after last year’s Rebecca, his disappointing foray into Netflix-approved gothic romance. The film follows city dwelling scientist Dr Martin Lowery (Joel Fry) and intrepid park scout Alma (Ellora Torchia) as they set out on foot through the Arboreal Forest to investigate the welfare of his colleague Dr. Olivia Wendle (Hayley Squires), who has been radio silent for months. After Martin injures his foot, the pair seek help from Zac (Reece Shearsmith), an enigmatic recluse who has been living illegally in the forest. It quickly becomes clear that not all is right and the pair lose their sense of time and become increasingly disoriented. A dangerous discovery reveals that their ...

BLACKPINK Light up the Sky Again with THE SHOW: Review

To paraphrase Wendy Williams: BLACKPINK? They’ve got a point: they are legends, and they are the moment. The pop quartet — made up of Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa — made a joyful return to the stage Saturday with their livestream concert, “THE SHOW”. It was just October of 2020 that the group released their debut full-length album (aptly titled THE ALBUM) following years of chart-smashing singles and EPs. Having already conquered international markets and ascended to unparalleled heights for a South Korean girl group, it’s easy to forget that, in terms of releases, BLACKPINK have only started to scratch the surface. Streamed through YouTube by the band’s label, YG Entertainment, “THE SHOW” was a spectacle indeed, involving a live band, a legion of backup dancers, and performance premieres...

Dave Grohl Recalls Getting ‘Beaten by Police and Rednecks’ During ‘Rock Against Reagan’ Concert

The Foo Fighters recently performed “Times Like These” during Joe Biden’s Celebrating America inauguration concert and played during Barack Obama’s presidency, but in the ’80s Dave Grohl was attending an event in Washington D.C. for a much different reason. During a recent interview with the Independent, he recalled getting “beaten by police and rednecks” during a “Rock Against Reagan” concert that featured bands like Bad Brains and Dead Kennedys. The rally took place “right on the mall, in front of the Lincoln Memorial, a quarter of a mile from where I would one day be invited to play at Obama’s first big ‘party’ on the South Lawn,” Grohl remembered. “They happened each Fourth of July. Hundreds of thousands of people from the suburbs would come to watch the national firework dis...

San Holo is up to something BIG.  As stated by the man himself, coming this week is the “biggest announcement in San Holo history.” Across his social media pages, the bitbird founder shared teaser photos and videos preparing fans for the news. While they don’t reveal much, his chosen verbiage has led to many counting down the seconds until the news is shared. At the time of writing, he has not provided any specific details on what’s in store. This, of course, has led to massive speculation from fans. Based on the footage of the Dutch artist playing a medley of instruments, the most common theory is that a new album or recorded set is on the way. Although this seems likely, it cannot be confirmed at this time. San Holo is set to make the biggest a...
