There’s a New Music and Arts Festival Planned in Black Rock Desert—But It’s Not Burning Man

Organizers of a new festival event have set their sights on Nevada’s Black Rock Desert, the long-time home of Burning Man. Operating at a similar intersection of music and art, The Everywhen Project describes itself as a nonprofit organization aimed at building community by way of supporting artists, individuals, groups, culture, and philosophy. The group is taking its mission to the desert for the launch of their inaugural event, The Electric Universe, which promises to be a “transformative experience.” “We are building a new playa family for 2021 and beyond,” the group’s website reads. “We fund artists, dreamers and builders who want to create reusable art and experiences to be enjoyed in the beautiful Black Rock Desert in Nevada.” While it...

Next on the album is “Envious,” which received fresh takes from GuiltyBeatz, Kiddy Smile, and Rezident. GuiltyBeatz and Kiddy Smile each delivered their own groovy house ...

Porter Robinson Opens Up About Overcoming Depression to Produce “Nurture”

In a new interview with Anna Lunoe on her danceXL Apple Music radio show, Porter Robinson opened up about the origins of Nurture, his highly anticipated sophomore album. “The album came after a real kind of emotional and creative low point for me, where I just was genuinely feeling like I was not capable of making music anymore. I was just extremely stuck,” Robinson lamented. “I was really, really depressed. I was feeling a lot of pressure and was really unhappy with everything that I was coming up with.” The very first time he listened to Nurture in full, Robinson said he found himself focusing on each and every sonic element he deemed a mistake, viewing his first album in seven years “through the most negative lens possible.R...

CHEAP TRICK’s RICK NIELSEN On Band’s Recording Process: ‘We Try To Kill It Every Time’

Rick Nielsen spoke to “Steve Gorman Rocks!”, the radio show hosted by former THE BLACK CROWES drummer Steve Gorman, about CHEAP TRICK‘s just-released new single, “Light Up The Fire”. The track will appear on CHEAP TRICK‘s 20th studio album, “In Another World”, which is due on April 9 via BMG. Asked about the “Light Up The Fire” recording process, the CHEAP TRICK guitarist said: “We just do what we do, and we try not to make it into a production. We start off and we always record everybody at once. And we do it probably three times with any song — we don’t dwell on it. We try to get it right, and if we screw up, we patch it in. But usually we don’t screw up, so we get a good drum track and a bass track. And Robin ...

PETER FRAMPTON To Release Instrumental Covers Album ‘Frampton Forgets The Words’ In April

“Frampton Forgets The Words”, the new studio album by THE PETER FRAMPTON BAND, will be released April 23 via UMe. Former MEGADETH Members Team Up With Ex-FIREWIND Singer, Former FATES WARNING Bassist In New Project

Former MEGADETH drummer Shawn Drover has launched a new project with his brother, and fellow ex-MEGADETH member, Glen Drover. The as-yet-unnamed band also features former FATES WARNING bassist Joe DiBiase and German singer Henning Basse, who has previously played with FIREWIND, METALIUM and MAYAN. We’ve been talking about doing something. Glen owns his own studio up in Canada, so why not utilize the fact that we don’t have to go and pay huge studio costs and et cetera, et cetera, and get some friends together that we admire and that we respect and work on a record....

Coachella Postponed for Third Time Due to COVID-19

Encore? For the third time, the Coachella Music and Arts Festival has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Via Billboard, Coachella’s sister country festival Stagecoach Country has also been pushed back. Coachella takes place almost every year in Indio, California. Last year’s event, scheduled for April, was meant to be headlined by Rage Against the Machine, Frank Ocean, Travis Scott, and Lana Del Rey, before the novel coronavirus waylaid those plans. It was optimistically pushed to October, but that idea only lasted until June before the raging pandemic made it shutter once again. In the process, 2020 became the first year without a Coachella in twenty years. Festival organizers hoped to bring it back this year April 9th-11th and 16th-18th. But even that proved overly sanguine, as...

Jerrod Carmichael’s On the Count of Three Is A Harsh and Bold Bromance: Sundance 2021 Review

This review is part of our Sundance 2021 coverage. The Pitch: Longtime best buddies Val (Jerrod Carmichael) and Kevin (Christopher Abbott) love each other about as much as they hate living. The latter is in a mental institution after his latest in a lifetime of attempts to kill himself; the former is deeply depressed, with a dead-end job and a fractious relationship with girlfriend Tasha (Tiffany Haddish). After Val breaks Kevin out of the joint, they hatch a scheme: live one last day to the fullest, finish their business, then shoot each other at the same time with a pair of handguns Val picked up. It’s a murder-suicide pact born of a lifetime of trauma and love, and that bond will be tested in more ways than one by the time the day is done. It’s a Great Day to Be Alive: Directo...

System of a Down Show Armenian Resilience in ‘Genocidal Humanoidz’ Video

A couple of months after releasing their first new music in 15 years, System of a Down have shared a poignant video for “Genocidal Humanoidz.” The visuals blend footage of the band performing with an animated story showing Armenian resilience and were directed by SOAD’s Shavo Odadjian and Deep Sky Animation’s Adam Mason. In the clip, a young boy visits the ruins of a wartorn village. Demons begin materializing, but so do forget-me-nots (the symbol of the Armenian genocide centennial). With the help of fellow townspeople, he’s able to extinguish the evil. The video premiered during a livestream to raise funds for rehabilitation efforts for Armenian soldiers suffering from traumatic injuries. Before the event, SOAD had already raised $600,000 for the Armenia Fund, and at the time o...

Noel Gallagher Gives Brother Liam Rare Compliment, Calls ‘Songbird’ a ‘Perfect’ Track

The Gallaghers are not siblings who say kind words about each other (in fact, their public musings are quite the opposite); however, in a recent interview Noel Gallagher gave his brother Liam a rare, and substantial, compliment. While speaking on Matt Morgan’s podcast, Noel praised “Songbird” — a track penned by Liam for Oasis’ 2002 album Heathen Chemistry — calling it “perfect.” Yes, you read correctly. “I thought ‘Songbird’ by Liam was great,” Noel told Morgan (via Radio X). “We did a demo of it and it was more like ‘Love Me Do’ by The Beatles. It’s got a mouth organ on it and it sounds like The Beatles. Then we took all the instruments off it and it became this acoustic thing that I think is perfect.” But the compliments only go so far with the Gallaghers, and N...
