Former MEGADETH drummer Shawn Drover has launched a new project with his brother, and fellow ex-MEGADETH member, Glen Drover. The as-yet-unnamed band also features former FATES WARNING bassist Joe DiBiase and German singer Henning Basse, who has previously played with FIREWIND, METALIUM and MAYAN. In a new interview with the “Nothing Shocking” podcast, Shawn stated about the new project: “We started working on some music probably a couple of months ago now. It’s been a couple of months. We’ve been talking about doing something. Glen owns his own studio up in Canada, so why not utilize the fact that we don’t have to go and pay huge studio costs and et cetera, et cetera, and get some friends together that we admire and that we respect and work on a record....
Encore? For the third time, the Coachella Music and Arts Festival has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Via Billboard, Coachella’s sister country festival Stagecoach Country has also been pushed back. Coachella takes place almost every year in Indio, California. Last year’s event, scheduled for April, was meant to be headlined by Rage Against the Machine, Frank Ocean, Travis Scott, and Lana Del Rey, before the novel coronavirus waylaid those plans. It was optimistically pushed to October, but that idea only lasted until June before the raging pandemic made it shutter once again. In the process, 2020 became the first year without a Coachella in twenty years. Festival organizers hoped to bring it back this year April 9th-11th and 16th-18th. But even that proved overly sanguine, as...
This review is part of our Sundance 2021 coverage. The Pitch: Longtime best buddies Val (Jerrod Carmichael) and Kevin (Christopher Abbott) love each other about as much as they hate living. The latter is in a mental institution after his latest in a lifetime of attempts to kill himself; the former is deeply depressed, with a dead-end job and a fractious relationship with girlfriend Tasha (Tiffany Haddish). After Val breaks Kevin out of the joint, they hatch a scheme: live one last day to the fullest, finish their business, then shoot each other at the same time with a pair of handguns Val picked up. It’s a murder-suicide pact born of a lifetime of trauma and love, and that bond will be tested in more ways than one by the time the day is done. It’s a Great Day to Be Alive: Directo...
A couple of months after releasing their first new music in 15 years, System of a Down have shared a poignant video for “Genocidal Humanoidz.” The visuals blend footage of the band performing with an animated story showing Armenian resilience and were directed by SOAD’s Shavo Odadjian and Deep Sky Animation’s Adam Mason. In the clip, a young boy visits the ruins of a wartorn village. Demons begin materializing, but so do forget-me-nots (the symbol of the Armenian genocide centennial). With the help of fellow townspeople, he’s able to extinguish the evil. The video premiered during a livestream to raise funds for rehabilitation efforts for Armenian soldiers suffering from traumatic injuries. Before the event, SOAD had already raised $600,000 for the Armenia Fund, and at the time o...
The Gallaghers are not siblings who say kind words about each other (in fact, their public musings are quite the opposite); however, in a recent interview Noel Gallagher gave his brother Liam a rare, and substantial, compliment. While speaking on Matt Morgan’s podcast, Noel praised “Songbird” — a track penned by Liam for Oasis’ 2002 album Heathen Chemistry — calling it “perfect.” Yes, you read correctly. “I thought ‘Songbird’ by Liam was great,” Noel told Morgan (via Radio X). “We did a demo of it and it was more like ‘Love Me Do’ by The Beatles. It’s got a mouth organ on it and it sounds like The Beatles. Then we took all the instruments off it and it became this acoustic thing that I think is perfect.” But the compliments only go so far with the Gallaghers, and N...
