Laxcity Returns With Imaginative 6-Track EP “Disconnect”

In 2018, Laxcity‘s career hit a major turning point. After a handful of well-received EPs, the Zambian producer released his remarkable debut album Catharsis. Since its release, his skills have remained a hot commodity. His Midas touch has been bestowed upon numerous tracks in the form of must-listen remixes, from Alina Baraz‘s “High” to San Holo‘s “everything matters (when it comes to you).” In a triumphant return to ALT:VISION, Laxcity has now released his latest EP Disconnect.  Laxcity’s run-in with Justin Bieber was a huge influence for Disconnect after the pop superstar used one of his samples on his 2020’s Changes. After briefly connecting on Twitter, Laxcity felt increasing pressure to release his best work ye...

Shaquille O’Neal Announces SHAQ Bowl With Diplo, Carnage, Migos, More

Can anyone keep up with Shaq? The NBA Hall of Famer has been on a tear since emerging as a star in the dance music world, releasing music with the likes of Wuki, Nitti Gritti, and NGHTMRE while simultaneously hosting his wild Shaq’s Fun House events. Instead of his yearly Super Bowl party, Shaq is now returning with a “bowl” of his own. Shaq’s competing event, aptly titled the SHAQ Bowl, will take place on February 7th, beginning at 3PM ET (12PM PT). Streamed live on Facebook, the SHAQ Bowl will consist of two teams representing this year’s Super Bowl competitors, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Knife’s Olof Dreijer Remixes Robyn & Röyksopp’s “Monument”: Stream

The Knife had a big 2020, marking their 20th anniversary with a series of reissues, a long-awaited migration to Bandcamp, live performances, and a new anti-nationalist anthem. With the celebration behind them, though, the group’s Olof Dreijer is back to his own work. Today, he’s shared a remix of “Monument” by Robyn & Röyksopp. “Monument” comes from the Swedish collaborators’ 2014 Do It Again EP, but it’s given a completely new spin here. The original pulsed with heavy sultriness as Robyn delivered slow and deliberate lyrics of determination. Dreijer kicks up the tempo considerably, speeding the vocals and panning the audio back and forth. The instrumentation also has been given something of a more classic dancefloor vibe, to the point where you can almost see the flashing lights cutti...

Freaks and Geeks’ 10 Greatest Needle Drops

Freaks & Geeks is now on Hulu. That’s great news for fans of the ’80s-set dramedy that launched the careers of James Franco, Jason Segel, Linda Cardellini, Seth Rogen, among others. Yet it’s also, in a way, a minor miracle for newcomers. While DVDs of the series remain in print, the show has been largely shelved from streaming circulation due to music clearances. These issues tend to affect variety shows that include music performances — like The Muppet Show or Saturday Night Live — but Freaks & Geeks runs into licensing challenges due to its heavy use of classic pop music. All too often, the series featured multiple hit songs from major artists like The Who or Van Halen. Rewatching the series now, it’s clear how effectively Paul Feig, Judd Apatow, and the rest of the team used thi...

Eilish closed the night with performances of her latest singles “therefore I am” and “my future”, along with “everything I wanted”. Though Foo Fighters and Eilish did not perform together, Dave Grohl was no doubt pumped to be sharing a bill with the young superstar. Last year, he likened Eilish’s rapid rise to Nirvana’s in 1991: “People say, ‘Is rock dead?’ When I look at someone like Billie Eilish, rock and roll is no...

A year before her new stand-alone single arrived, Rodrigo released “All I Want,” from Disney+’s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, in which she starred. The song dented the U.S.-based Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks, reaching No. 90 in January 2020; comparatively, and as on the global charts, “Drivers License” has topped the Hot 100 in its first two frames. Now, with steamrolling momentum for “Drivers License,” “All I Want” is enjoying a resurgence, most evident on the global rankings. “All I Want” climbs to No. 119 in its second week on the Global 200 and debuts on the Global Excl.
