The Philly-based R&B artist Son Little has returned with a new song called “Phantom Killer” that might be his most forward-thinking tune yet. On last year’s aloha LP, his third full-length for ANTI- Records, Little continued to refine his signature blend of lo-fi indie-rock and psychy soul. Like on 2017’s New Magic and his 2015 S/T debut, the music centered Little’s undeniable vocal talent — a raw, dusky croon that sounds great when he’s belting and softly cooing. “Phantom Killer” is a one-off loosie that makes a hard pivot into some very different, though equally beautiful, sounds. On this track, Little douses his voice in auto-tune and sings with a mournful inflection that brings to mind Kanye’s “Blood On The Leaves”. The frisky shaker noises and looping acoustic guitar rif...

QUEENSRŸCHE singer Todd La Torre spoke to Canada’s The Metal Voice about the progress of the songwriting sessions for the follow-up to 2019’s “The Verdict” album. The group’s next disc will apparently mark the QUEENSRŸCHE recording debut of Casey Grillo who replaced original drummer Scott Rockenfield in 2017. “Michael [Wilton, guitar] flew down [to my house in Florida] recently — a week or two ago — and Zeuss [producer Chris Harris] came down [as well],” Todd said (see video below). “And then Casey [Grillo, drums] lives here, so he was coming over every day. We recorded 14, 15 new song ideas. And then Michael‘s coming back down again in, like, a month or so. So we’re writing new QUEENSRŸCHE stuff. And Zeuss is recording it in real...
In a new interview with Radio.com, Sammy Hagar spoke about the possibility of playing more live shows during the coronavirus pandemic. Hagar and the rest of THE CIRCLE band performed last October at Sammy‘s annual birthday bash, which was moved to Catalina Island in California. The audience watched the concert via the boat-in, a limited amount of socially distanced chartered boats that purchased mooring reservations in the bay at Two Harbors. Hagar said (see video below): “[Our booking] agency is trying to find ways to do [more shows]. The drive-in movie theater thing, that didn’t appeal to me. I couldn’t do it. My fans are crazy. So we did the Catalina Island thing, where we said, ‘Well, let’s have a boat-in and see how that works.’ And that was c...
RATING: 8/10 Barely a year ago, WEREWOLVES released their debut album, “The Dead Are Screaming”. It was really fucking horrible and violent and angry and, let’s face it, absolutely perfect for the general vibe of 2020. One year on, they’ve made another album that delivers more or less the same full-force boot to the pelvis, but with even more venom and vitriol behind each bone-shattering blow. It starts with a bilious “One, two, three, four…” and then “I Don’t Like You” erupts, with all the manners of a rabid warthog and armed to the teeth with some of the nastiest riffs in living memory. WEREWOLVES have form, of course, with former members of THE BERZERKER and AKERCOCKE in their ranks, but far from trading on past glories, the Aussies ...
