By Emlyn Travis It’s difficult, actress Abigail Cowen explains, to remember a time when performance wasn’t part of her life. Raised with an insatiable love of the arts, she began piano lessons at age six and recalls holding frequent solo, living-room concerts for family members. Her passion for the spotlight only grew stronger when, at age nine, she begged her mother to let her sign up for acting classes. To Cowen, it felt less like a decision and more like a calling; a heavy, knowing feeling that radiated from within and told her no career would ever bring her as much joy or personal fulfillment. “It was a feeling of I need to do this or I will not be happy with my life,” the 22-year-old tells MTV News over the phone from her home in Orlando, Florida. “It literally feels like a weight in ...
Maci’s restraining order against Ryan has ended, and Bentley’s dad is legally allowed to contact his ex. But the father of three isn’t exactly looking to resume contact. “She did an order of protection with about 30 lies last time, so I just don’t feel the need to speak to her and bring some of that back into my life,” the father of three tells Teen Mom OG producer Lorraine in the sneak peek, above, of the upcoming season premiere. Jen, Larry and Mackenzie are also present at the mini Edwards gathering. But the lack of communication between the two families has translated into less time with Bentley. “We haven’t seen him in a month,” Jen stated. How does Larry feel about the current situation involving his grandson? Watch him open up in...
By Lai Frances “English queen!” That’s what a fanboy in the audience enthusiastically yelled after Ryujin introduced herself in my native tongue during our live interview at Build Series in January 2020. At the time, Itzy, whose name is a play on the Korean words “to have it all,” was less than a year old since their debut in February 2019, but the group had already amassed an impressive roster of accomplishments, broken records, and awards under their belt; including the fastest rookie group to win a music show (nine days from their debut) and a handful of Best New Artist awards, all while capping the year with a showcase tour in Asia and the United States. During the same interview, Yeji, Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yuna surprised viewers by answering a majority of the questions in Engl...

Snack on this: for New Yorkers, getting your hands on a COVID-19 test will soon be as effortless as hitting up a hotdog stand, thanks to the impending rollout of vending machines stocked with take-home test kits. Soft-opening on January 25th and officially launching the week of February 1st, the touchless machines will be housed in Midtown’s Herald Square alongside a massive, fully staffed store. The project, spearheaded by biotech company Wellness4Humanity (W4H) and software hub Swyft Inc., follows the lead of similar initiatives seen in the U.K., Hong Kong, Latvia and even University of California San Diego. And just last week, W4H ceremoniously placed its first vending machine inside Oakland International Airport. According to W4H, its New ...
Robin S’ timeless “Show Me Love” is perhaps one of the most instantly recognizable works in dance music history. Even today, remixes and edits of the 1993 classic can be heard in clubs across the globe. Similarly, the 2009 iteration by Laidback Luke and Steve Angello has made its mark on the world of dance music. The duo is now hosting a remix competition to even further solidify the track’s hall of fame status, but the story of how their iconic version of “Show Me Love” came to be is even more impressive. It began in the early 2000s on Laidback Luke’s music forum, where producers and DJs gathered to discuss the hottest tracks of the moment. Among the forum’s contributors were acts known professionally as Bingo Players, Afrojack, and Swed...
Good news for the Forest Fam has arrived after the organizers of Electric Forest approved dates for the event’s 2021 edition. The White Lake Beacon reports that the famed Rothbury, Michigan electronic music festival is planning to make its return this summer after its 10th anniversary edition was shelved due to the impact of COVID-19. The Rothbury Village Council, who had rejected a request to reschedule the 10th annual festival from June to September 2020, recently approved dates in June 2021. The news arrives following a December 2020 announcement from organizers, who said they had been “considering options for Electric Forest Summer 2021 dates.” If the pandemic still presents a threat to public health at that time, the council has des...
If debut album Nightmare Vacation taught us anything, it’s that Rico Nasty is at her best when operating out of the norm. Genres, rules, and expectations — the young rapper relishes in breaking them all, and all while making it look fun as hell. For her latest project, a single and video called “LiL BiTcH”, Rico ditches her recently acquired 18th century ball gown to become… a video game character that takes down evil ducks and bears. Classic Rico move, baby. The release is a collaboration spearheaded by pop producer chillpill and also features Danish singer Soleima, but per usual, Rico steals the show. The Maryland rapper herself is already like a cartoon character personified, and when coupled with wacky and wonderful hyperpop like this, it’s a guaranteed surreal slam dunk. (Also se...
When there’s something hateful spreading on Twitter, who are you gonna call to drown it out? The K-Pop stans, of course. After batshit crazy Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene said she introduced articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden, a swarm of K-Pop fans quickly took over the #ImpeachBidenNow hashtag to dominate it with clips of their favorite music stars. #ImpeachBidenNow started to churn after Green, a QAnon enthusiast, uploaded a video of herself discussing the impeachment articles she just dropped off. “I’ve just filed articles of impeachment on president Joe Biden, we will see how this goes,” she tweeted. “President Joe Biden is unfit to hold the office of the presidency. His pattern of abuse of power as President Obama’s vice president is lengthy and dist...
Fraternity featuring Bon Scott (center, with vest), courtesy of Cherry Red Records A box set of late singer Bon Scott’s pre-AC/DC prog-rock band Fraternity has been released via Cherry Red Records. The 3-CD collection, titled Seasons of Change, encompasses Fraternity’s complete recorded output from 1970 to 1974. Along with Fraternity’s two full-length albums, 1971’s Livestock and 1972’s Flaming Galah, the box set includes non-album singles, B-sides, EP tracks, live tracks, and the band’s “lost” third album, Second Chance. “Scott’s tenure with Fraternity has been poorly documented on the reissue market,” reads Cherry Red’s description of the set. “Of the two albums the band had issued at the time, Livestock and Flaming Galah, neither album has been released officially. And their story has n...
Angel Haze has returned to drop the new song “Weight”. Our former Rookie of the Year broke out in 2012 with a trauma-baring cover of Eminem’s “Cleaning Out My Closet”. Haze shared a string of buzzy mixtapes in the early 2010s, came out as nonbinary (though preferring singular he/she pronouns instead of ‘they’), and unleashed the albums Dirty Gold (2013) and Back to the Woods (2015). Afterwards, her pace of songwriting slowed down significantly, which makes “Weight” a welcome surprise. The track channels aggression backed by a lifetime of rage-inducing experiences. “Y’all couldn’t take what I been through,” she raps, adding, “Yeah, silly n****s you was thinking I was buried/ But I soared/ Now y’all gone wish that I died in the psych ward!” Elsewhere, she hints at her tim...
On “Lo Vas a Olvidar,” two of the most daring new voices in global pop music join forces, as Billie Eilish and Rosalía — who, this time nearly a year ago, were best new artist competitors at the Grammys, an award which Eilish eventually took home — find a common ground for their disparate sounds. While Eilish sounds comfortable singing in Spanish on the song, Rosalía makes the greater sonic jump, crooning on a chorus that recalls some of Eilish’s most poignant mid-tempo tracks. Anuel AA & Ozuna, Los Dioses “We wanted people to feel both of us in every single song,” Ozuna told Billboard about Los Dioses, his surprise joint full-length with fellow reggaeton leader Anuel AA. “It was like, ‘Damn, let’s do things differently. Let me sing the verse and you do the chorus bec...
