It feels significant that British producer Danny L Harle chose to file his latest banger, “On a Mountain”, under his DJ Danny alias. Because, let’s face it: DJs need a win right now. Yes, our favorite spinners have found ways to keep busy behind the scenes over the course of the pandemic. Harle, himself, aside from prepping his upcoming solo album, Harlecore, has remixed no less than Georgia and 100 gecs and produced for 2020 standouts Charli XCX and Rina Sawayama in addition to longtime collaborator Caroline Polachek. That’s damn-good work ...
While her debut album, Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number, is widely available on major streaming services, the singer’s estate has held back the majority of her remaining catalog, which includes her 1996 follow-up, One in a Million, and her 2001 self-titled album. “In the meantime, however, we are working diligently to protect what is in our control — Aaliyah’s brand, legacy, and intellectual property,” the estate continued. “In doing so, we will continue to release unique and exciting projects to keep Aaliyah’s legacy and light shining. While we understand this may be challenging, we need the support of the fans Aaliyah loved so dearly, until we can resolve all the issues in freeing her music. Undoubtedly, we understand how frust...
In an exclusive interview with The Associated Press, Gomez said she’s frustrated by what she views as the companies’ lackluster response and that they have to “stop doing the bare minimum.” “It isn’t about me versus you, one political party versus another. This is about truth versus lies and Facebook, Instagram and big tech companies have to stop allowing lies to just flow and pretend to be the truth,” Gomez said in a phone interview from New York. “Facebook continues to allow dangerous lies about vaccines and COVID and the U.S. election, and neo-Nazi groups are selling racist products via Instagram. “Enough is enough,” she said. Facebook and Twitter representatives declined to comment. Google didn’t respond to an AP request for comment. Gomez is among a growing number of celebrities using...
In the cute clip, Beyonce and Jay-Z‘s oldest child, who celebrated her birthday on Jan. 7, is seen busting a move alongside fellow pint-sized dancers to a version of Ciara‘s 2010 song “Gimmie Dat.” In 2019, at age 7, Blue Ivy officially earned her first Billboard Hot 100-charting hit after being featured on Beyonce, Saint Jhn and Wizkid’s “Brown Skin Girl.” The track, which appears on Beyonce’s The Lion King: The Gift album, debuted at No. 76 on the Hot 100. Blue Ivy also became one of the youngest Grammy nominees in history after recently being added to the nominees for best music video for her mother’s “Brown Skin Girl.” Check out Knowles-Lawson’s video of Blue Ivy here. “CM celebrated an illustrious career over 40 years and made an incredible impact on the global music and entertainment industry,” the statement continued. “Best known for taking his ‘band of brothers’ INXS to worldwide stardom, CM Murphy influenced the lives of many around the globe with his endless passion and drive. He will be greatly missed.” Led by the late Michael Hutchence, INXS was one of the most successful groups to emerge from Australia in the late 1970s and sold approximately 70 million records worldwide during their career. The surviving band members wrote in a tribute to Murphy, “Without Chris’s vision, passion and hard work, the INXS story would be totally different. Chris’s star burned very bright and we celebrate a life well lived and send all ...
A concert-related medical study conducted in Spain has shown promising results for the future of live events. Conducted by the Fight AIDS and Infectious Diseases Foundation, the Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol, and the Primavera Sound festival, the study demonstrated the potential to hamper the spread of COVID-19 in close quarters through mandatory mask wearing and coordinated testing. At Barcelona’s Sala Apolo nightclub, 463 individuals between the ages of 18-59 attended a concert, where they were each provided an N95 mask upon entry. All participants ultimately tested negative for the virus immediately prior to attending. While attendees wore masks inside the venue, social distancing was not enforced, allowing the guests to dance and move about freely. Eigh...
As California’s Riverside Country struggles to mitigate the region’s surge in COVID-19 infections, Goldenvoice has stepped up to offer some assistance. According to Palm Springs ABC affiliate station KESQ, Goldenvoice—the event promoter behind Coachella and Stagecoach—has offered to help create a mass vaccination site in the heart of Coachella Valley. The Department of Public Health in Riverside County currently has 22,000 vaccine doses on-hand to distribute. Talks between the state and Goldenvoice are ongoing. Given the company’s infrastructure and organizational expertise, Supervisor Manuel Perez suggested that Goldenvoice would be an ideal partner. “With the concerts and all the logistics in planning it that tak...
1001Tracklists‘ 2021 “A State of Dance Music” report showed that despite a year of limited show opportunities—and even fewer in-person festivals—the dance music scene remained resilient. The annual report shared arguably the most impressive statistic right out the gate. “In 2020, there were more sets and mixes added to 1001Tracklists than ever before, up a remarkable 30% from last year,” the report states. Of the total 53,000 sets added, 11,000 were live shows. The statistic validates the meteoric rise to prominence of the livestream event concept, an adaptation that kept artists connected with fans throughout the year. That narrative is certainly reflected in the report’s top tracklists of the year, which includes several livestreamed se...
Arguably one of the most iconic dance records of all-time, ATB’s “9 PM (Till I Come)” was released over 20 years ago via Kontor Records, helping to propel the German DJ and producer into international stardom. Fast-forward to 2021, when ATB has teamed up with Topic and A7S to release “Your Love (9PM),” a reimagined version of the platinum-selling trance classic. German/Croatian producer Topic and Swedish singer-songwriter A7S burst onto the crossover scene last year with their chart-topping dance track “Breaking Me,” teaming up once again in the summer of 2020 to deliver “Why Do You Lie To Me” with Lil Baby. The duo’s chemistry is undisputed, and their work on “Your Love (9PM)” is truly stellar. The original’s signature lead melody dominates the tune, supported by To...
Bow Wow and his fans are getting absolutely roasted on Twitter after footage leaked of the rapper performing for a large, mostly unmasked crowd at Houston’s Cle’ Club Friday night. The event was part of a larger celebration for club promoter Larry Morrow’s birthday, which also featured a performance from Meek Mill and promises sets from Fabolous and Trey Songz, among others, throughout the weekend. Though the event itself should be criticized for not following COVID-19 protocol while the virus continues to wreak havoc — especially in Houston, which saw 24,000 new cases on Friday alone — the Internet is taking aim at Bow Wow followers for risking their lives to see him perform. Actor Zach Braff even got in on the action, tweeting “I thought about it and have decided I’m not willing to die f...
