Dr. Dre Is Still In ICU After Brain Aneurysm

Source: Bernard Smalls / @PhotosByBeanz Dr. Dre isn’t out of the woods yet. The Hip-Hop icon is still in the ICU almost a week after he was admitted after suffering a brain aneurysm. On January 5, news broke that the Beats By Dre and N.W.A founder was in the ICU at Los Angeles area hospital Cedars-Sinai after suffering what’s been reported as a brain aneurysm the previous day. Soon after the news made the rounds, and was trending on Twitter, Dre took to social media to reassure concerned fans that he was already on the road to recovery. “I’m doing great and getting excellent care from my medical team,” said Dre via Instagram. “I will be out of the hospital and back home soon.” However, it’s been about a week later and Dre is still in the ICU per TMZ. According to the outlet’s sources, doct...

Black Country, New Road Unveil New Song “Track X”: Stream

The buzzy Brits of Black Country, New Road have returned with the new song called “Track X”. It’s the latest preview of their debut album For the first time, out February 5th. Like previous releases, “Track X” is understated and eccentric. Frontman Isaac Wood sings in a tone just above spoken word while brass instruments sketch butterflies around his voice. Even as the music looks forward with a heady mix of post-punk and jazz, the lyrics turn fondly backwards, remembering the place “where we fucked as kids,” and the time “I told you I love you in front of black midi.” In a statement, Wood explained how the song came together, saying, “Track X is a song we first worked on in 2018 but one that never made it out into our live performances. We decided to resurrect it during the reco...

Danny Elfman Shares Creepy New Solo Song “Sorry”: Stream

Halloween may be long past, but Danny Elfman has creepy treat for us. The beloved composer has returned with a new solo song called “Sorry” and an accompanying video. The expectedly eerie offering is only the second solo song Elfman has shared in the last 36 years (!), following last fall’s “Happy”. Like that tune, “Sorry” is being released via the indie labels ANTI-/ Epitaph Records, which feels like an interesting home for the guy who made the Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack. In a statement, Elfman said “Sorry” is “the first song I’ve written for myself in a long time,” and detailed its “alien” beginnings, “It began as an obsessive choral-chant instrumental work, which at the time I called ‘alien orchestral chamber punk’ and evolved slowly into a song. I was surprised by the a...

Blanck Mass Announces New Album In Ferneaux, Shares “Starstuff”: Stream

Blanck Mass is the solo electronic music project of Benjamin John Power, co-founder of drone outfit Fuck Buttons. Today, the British artist has announced a new album dubbed In Ferneaux, due for release next month via Sacred Bones. The follow-up to 2019’s Animated Violence Mild was written and recorded during quarantine, and is very much a product of its time. Blanck Mass created the album using a decade’s worth of field recordings from his various travels — purposely bringing memories and relationships back to life during a period of great separation and isolation. These recordings inform both halves of In Ferneaux, with each section representing a so-called “long-form journey” in the UK musician’s life. “The journeys are haunted with the vestiges of voices, places, and sensations,” descri...

Danny Elfman Releases Prog Rock-Influenced Single ‘Sorry’

Just before Halloween, Danny Elfman released his first solo single in 36 years, an “absurd anti-pop song” called “Happy.” Today, the famed composer/musician is giving us another taste of new material with “Sorry.” The anger-fueled track pulls from industrial and prog-rock influences to create an uneasy atmosphere that’s made even more unnerving with a jarring video animated by Jesse Kanda (Arca, FKA Twigs, Bjork). The intricate visuals were originally created for Elfman’s Coachella 2020 performance, which was postponed. “‘Sorry’ was the first song I’ve written for myself in a long time,” Elfman explained in a statement.“It began as an obsessive choral-chant instrumental work, which at the time I called ‘alien orchestral chamber punk’ and evolved slowly into a song. I was surprise...

Navy Blue: Song of Sage: Post Panic!

Over the course of the last half-decade, the 23-year-old skateboarder, graphic designer, and streetwear model born Sage Elsesser has quietly crafted his own version of the brisk and insular rap currently powering the New York underground. Much of Navy Blue’s recent music—particularly his debut album, 2020’s Àdá Irin—charts paths through familial trauma and grief; his songs scan as holistic diary entries, the literary equivalent of burning sage to cleanse your surroundings. Song of Sage: Post Panic!, Navy’s second full-length album of 2020 released this past December, sinks deeper into the recesses of his mind, fighting greater battles while reaping bigger rewards. Listening to Song of Sage, the pains and pleasures of Navy’s past feel three-dimensional. Mental cobwebs gather in corners; mem...

Taylor Swift’s Evermore Returns to U.K. Chart Summit

Harry Styles’ Fine Line (Columbia) was one of the U.K.’s most popular albums in 2020, though it has never reached No. 1 on the weekly chart. It’s inching closer to breaking the spell, rising 10-2, a new high, following the release of buzzy new video for “Treat People With Kindness.” Lewis Capaldi’s Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent (EMI), the U.K.’s biggest album for two years straight, according to the OCC, returns to the Top 10 in its 86th week on the survey. This week, Divinely Uninspired rises 12-6. Meanwhile, Sydney-based, Los Angeles-based hip-hop artist The Kid LAROI enjoys his first Top 10 as debut mixtape F**k Love (Columbia) lifts 22-10. The rising, ARIA Award-nominated artist gets a boost from his hit “Without You,” up 26-7 on the national single...

Taylor Swift’s ‘Evermore’ Extends Reign Atop Australia’s Albums Chart

Swift’s presence is felt up and down the current chart, which also features Folklore (down 4-7), 1989 (up 48-31) and Lover (up 39-34). In a result that mirrors the top tier of the U.K. tally, Evermore is followed on the ARIA Chart by Harry Styles’ Fine Line, which improves 5-2 for its 52nd week in the Top Ten. Fine Line, the current leader on the ARIA Vinyl Albums Chart, gets a push thanks to the viral video for “Treat People with Kindness” featuring Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Meanwhile, The Kid LAROI is back in the high life as the deluxe edition of his debut mixtape F*ck Love (Savage) rises 6-3, equaling its chart peak. It’s a third time at No. 3 for F*ck Love. The rising, Australian-born and raised rapper earned three nominations at the 2020 ARIA Awards. In a rare sight, no new ...

Brian May Launches Wildlife Fundraising Fragrance ‘Save Me’

For superfans, May and Xerjoff are stocking an autographed 50ml bottle priced at €410 ($500), and the standard bottle is priced at €197 ($240). “This amazing man is doing something wonderful for animal welfare,” May wrote of Momo, captioning photos of the pair signing bottles with gold pens. Aside from wielding the axe on some of rock music’s indelible songs, May is a long-time advocate for wild animals and co-founder of the Save Me Trust, which has battled the U.K. government on badger culls, among other issues. May — or rather, Dr May — also received a PhD in astrophysics from Imperial College in 2017. The rocker endured a rollercoaster 2020, which at its peak saw May, his Queen bandmates and singer Adam Lambert fill stadiums on their Rhapsody tour, and enjoy the rollou...

KING DIAMOND Shares Rare Photo With Four-Year-Old Son

King Diamond has posted a rare photo of him with his young son. Earlier today, the legendary Danish heavy metal vocalist — who fronts both KING DIAMOND and MERCYFUL FATE — took to his Twitter to share a picture of him walking with four-year-old Byron. King captioned the photo: “A nice stroll with the young prince.” Byron‘s mother is King‘s wife, Hungarian-born singer Livia Zita. She has been performing with KING DIAMOND as a backing vocalist since 2003. The boy was named after King‘s favorite singer of all time, late URIAH HEEP frontman David Byron. King Diamond, whose real name is Kim Bendix Petersen, told the Danish web site BT.dk in a 2009 interview that he spoke to Livia for the first time around 19 years ago when she interviewed him over the phone for the...
