On New Year’s Eve, Armin van Buuren sent off 2020 with the 997th episode of his illustrious A State of Trance radio show. Not long before that, he treated fans to an end-of-the-year mix, highlighting some of his favorite releases of the year. To keep the celebration alive for trance addicts, in preparation of the show’s jaw-dropping 1,000th episode, van Buuren will be counting down the top 1,000 A State of Trance tracks in a weeklong streaming event. Considering the show has been running for nearly twenty years, choosing 1,000 songs might be too great of a task for one man. As detailed in the embedded announcement tweet below, the Dutch trance icon asked fans for help in selecting tracks that will make up the all-time list. Armin van Buuren’s special A State of ...
Excision left no neck unbroken in 2020 with the debut of his own record label, Subsidia. Split into three volumes, Dusk, Night, and Dawn, the 118-track debut of the label rocked the bass music world to the core and made Subsida an easy choice for EDM.com‘s Record Label of the Year. Since then, they’ve released a new volume in both the wonky and weird Dusk and the unforgivingly-heavy Night sagas. Now, echoing the calls for new beginnings brought on by the New Year, Excision and company are preparing for the release of the second chapter of the melodic bass journey that is Dawn. As shown in the announcement above, the compilation album will feature new music from ill.Gates, Dani King, Cyrus Gold, Computa, Ahee, and a new collaboration from the man himself and...
FOREIGNER bassist Jeff Pilson says that there is a “very, very simple” reason his band has not yet been inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Artists are eligible for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame 25 years after the release of their first album or single. Criteria for inclusion includes “the influence and significance of the artist’s contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll.” Eligible since 2002, FOREIGNER has had a huge number of rock hits, including “Cold As Ice”, “Double Vision”, “Hot Blooded”, “I Want To Know What Love Is”, “Juke Box Hero” and “Urgent”, and has been nominated for three Grammy Awards, with no wins. Asked in a new interview with Jeff Ga...
In a brand new interview with The Metal Voice, legendary guitarist Michael Schenker discussed the legacy of VAN HALEN icon Eddie Van Halen, who died in October at the age of 65. “The weirdest thing is actually VAN HALEN was supporting UFO at the Starwood [club in Los Angeles],” Michael said (see video below). “I was 19 years old, I guess. That would have been ’74 or ’75. I heard that some people were saying a phenomenal guitarist was there, but it was five years before they broke out with ‘Van Halen I’, which, even though I’m not listening to any music for the last 50 years, sometimes [you would] hear things coming out of speakers everywhere. And when I heard Eddie, I went, like, ‘Wow! This is amazing.’ But I didn’t know tha...
On Monday’s (January 4) episode of her talk show “The Talk”, Sharon Osbourne discussed her recent battle with COVID-19. “I’m feeling really fine now, except that I’m still very tired,” she said, less than a month after she announced her positive coronavirus diagnosis. “I nod off at ridiculous times of the day. And I’m good. “I went through all the symptoms — headache, eye ache, body ache, dizziness, sickness; all of it,” Ozzy Osbourne‘s wife and manager explained. “But there’s people who are much worse than I got it; they have it much worse. And I just think I came out very lucky. “By the way, I still can’t smell very much or taste very much,” Sharon added. When the Emmy-winning host of ...
George Lynch has once again explained his decision to retire the LYNCH MOB band name, saying he “got tired of rationalizing it.” Last August, Lynch announced that he was ending LYNCH MOB, apparently due to the racial insensitivity of the moniker, saying he will no longer record or perform under that name. In a new interview with George Dionne of Metal Express Radio, George spoke about “Heavy Hitters”, his recently released collection of studio recordings with Jeff Pilson that turn pop music classics into metal anthems, and addressed questions about why it took him three decades to call it quits with LYNCH MOB. “When we first formed the band in ’89, the name had sort of already been around,” George said (hear audio below). “While I was in DOKK...
When Chris Rock released his Netflix stand-up special Tamborine in 2018, he managed to garner a whopping 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes — a rare accomplishment for a film, never mind a comedy routine. Now, Rock is treating fans to even more of those critically lauded jokes with Chris Rock: Total Blackout, The Tamborine Extended Cut, which hits the streamer next week. The Tamborine Extended Cut boasts 27 minutes of previously unreleased footage from Rock’s original Grammy-nominated special. The new clips — which include never-before-seen jokes, behind-the-scenes footage, and various interviews — will touch on race, fatherhood, and politics. Because they’re interwoven throughout the stand-up special, Netflix is calling it a repackaged “remix” of the initial release. To hype up the extended cu...
