Source: PYMCA / Getty The news of MF DOOM‘s passing came as a shock to his legion of fans, especially those of us who hoped that he would continue his legendary run of verses for years to come. As the Hip-Hop nation grieves this massive loss, I’ll try to do my best to capture what MF DOOM AKA Daniel Dumile meant to me. As a Hip-Hop fan of a certain age, growing up with the music and culture has afforded me a particular vantage point when observing the culture. As a teenager in 1989, my affinity for Rap music was fanatical and the obsession with the artform most certainly remains. Source: Jack Vartoogian/Getty Images / Getty It’s a brand new year, and right on time Skillz has dropped his annual recap of the previous year with “The 2020 Rap Up.” Considering how trash the year was on multiple levels, the Virginia MC had plenty of material to work with. Skillz begins mentioning how the years started off as promising as any. But with Trump getting impeached and the Senate failing to seal the deal, things quickly started going left. He delivered the song via an IGTV video where he includes footage and memes that match up with the bars he spitting. From the tragedy (we lost Kobe Bryant), to political commentary (Black Lives Matter) to the absurd (Netlflix’s Tiger King), Skillz hit mosts everything with seriousness when necessary and wit when appropriate. “This year let yo...

In July, as the coronavirus pandemic forced many shows and films to halt production, it was announced that the fourth part of the Riverdale-ified coming-of-age series would be its last; but not before Sabrina casts a compelling goodbye spell, of course. In this installment, the Eldritch Terrors — ancient and immensely powerful supernatural being...
By Katiee McKinstry With the release of her latest album, Plastic Hearts, in late November, Miley Cyrus completely reinvented herself as a glam-rock icon, diving into the past as she cleared a path forward in the pop-rock sphere. Expertly wielding the collective power of nostalgia to appeal to even the most casual of listeners — its final tracks include a reworked version of standout single “Midnight Sky” featuring Stevie Nicks and covers of the classics “Zombie” and “Heart of Glass” — Cyrus also mined key moments from her own career to generative new results. And this year, she was not alone. Prior to the drop of Plastic Hearts, Cyrus announced the launch of MileySpace, essentially an updated version of what her MySpace page would look like in 2020, hosted on her own website.
