Of Evermore’s 169,000 equivalent album units earned in the tracking week ending Dec. 24, album sales comprise just under 102,000 (down 34%), SEA units comprise 66,000 (down 61%, equaling 86.15 million on-demand streams of the album’s songs) and TEA units comprise a little a little over 1,000 (down 85%). Evermore’s second week was aided by the arrival of the album on CD on Dec. 18. The set was only available to purchase as a digital download in its first week of release. Tony Rice, the bluegrass guitarist known for his innovative flatpicking, quick sounds and is widely known as one of the greatest players in the genre, has died at the age of 69. His label, Rounder Records, confirmed the news of his death. Rice died on Christmas Day at his home in Reidsville, North Carolina. Over the years, Rice recorded with various artists, including David Grisman Quintet, Ricky Skaggs, Jerry Garcia, Dolly Parton, his own The Tony Rice Unit and as a solo artist as well, in particular on Manzanita in 1979 and 1983’s Church Street Blues. Several recent photos and video clips of the graves at the Moore Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Arlington, Texas — taken before and after they became fully enclosed by the metal fence — can be seen below.
