The Mandalorian Season 2 Finale Features a Surprising Dubstep Scene

Editor’s Note: This article contains spoilers for the season finale of The Mandalorian Season 2.  Alongside its creative storylines, attention to detail, and unbelievable fan-service, one of the highlights of The Mandalorian is its music. Fitting for a show set in the universe of the most iconic sci-fi story ever told, Ludwig Göransson took home an Emmy Award for his work last year. While impressive, it was expected; the Star Wars franchise didn’t become the behemoth it is today through mediocrity. What is surprising, though, is Göransson’s decision to use dubstep in his score for one of the most exciting scenes in the season finale of the second season.  Without giving too much away, in a scene featuring the activation of the elite-level villains...

Kick 2020 to the Curb With Madeon’s New Year’s Eve DJ Mix

Just days after the release of his chills-inducing acoustic performance, Madeon is back with another mix. To help send one of the worst years of our collective lives packing, he released a New Year’s Eve 2021 DJ mix on Apple Music. With close to 50 songs packed into just over 60 minutes of music, fans of nearly every genre will be satisfied with the French electronic music star’s choices. While we won’t be able to enjoy NYE like years past, at least the music will still be as good as ever.  Seeing as it’s a DJ mix and not one of his trademark live performances, the holiday offering is primarily filled with music from other artists. All is not lost for super-fans, though, as they will still be able to hear original works such as “The Prince,” “...

Marcus Schössow Shares Christmas Day Mix Floating on New York’s Frigid Hudson River

Santa wasn’t the only one who brought gifts this Christmas. In honor of the holiday, Marcus Schössow bundled up and set sail on both the Hudson and East rivers for a livestreamed performance from the back of a boat. Hosted by Anjunabeats, the show was equal parts a test of endurance and musical IQ as the Swedish progressive house vet performed for close to three hours outdoors on a very cold winter day. Before his expedition, he shared a teaser video to let his fans know what was in store. Using multiple cameras, viewers were able to see his mixing as well as some New York City landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty. Curating an adventurous atmosphere with each of his many selections, Schössow’s stream was perfect for those enjoying a relaxing holiday at home or...

SMASHING PUMPKINS’ BILLY CORGAN Says He Started Work On Christmas Album A Couple Of Years Ago But He ‘Junked It All’

In a new interview with journalist Jenniffer Weigel, SMASHING PUMPKINS mainman Billy Corgan was asked about the possibility of making a Christmas album, either as a solo artist or with his band. He responded (see video below): “I actually started a Christmas album a couple of years ago. We kind of did it quick, and I wasn’t satisfied with the results, so I junked it all. But I had written some songs, and I had found some cool obscure songs, and picked a couple of classics that I liked. I hope we get around to it some time, but at the moment, it’s completely stalled.” Corgan previously floated the idea of making a PUMPKINS Christmas album in a 2018 interview with USA Today. Asked at the time if the LP would include covers or be all original material, Billy said: R...

GODSMACK’s SHANNON LARKIN Won’t Publicly Discuss His Political Views: ‘I Feel I’m An Entertainer, Man’

In a recent inteviw with Ghost Cult magazine, GODSMACK‘s Shannon Larkin discussed his reluctance to publicly air his political views. Speaking about the recent U.S. presidential election and how it relates to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the drummer said: “I really felt that whoever won [the election], it’s all gonna come soon, and the country’s gonna normalize. It’ll never be the way it was before, because we have this bug that is transforming itself as we try and make antidotes. Even with [the pharmaceutical company] Pfizer saying, ‘Oh, we got 90 percent [efficacy rate on the COVID-19 vaccine],’ or now, today, it’s 95 percent. So if everybody goes and gets the shot, then why doesn’t the country open back up? ‘Oh, because th...

RAINBOW Singer RONNIE ROMERO: ‘I’m SO F**king Tired Of This Dirty ‘Music’ World’

RAINBOW singer Ronnie Romero has decried the hardball nature of the music business, saying that “too many people’ in the industry are “beyond the good and the evil.” Romero, who is originally from Chile but is now settled in Madrid, Spain, gave his scathing assessment of the music business while sharing a Christmas message via his official artist Facebook page. The 39-year-old wrote: “I’m SO fucking tired of this dirty ‘music’ world. Everybody think they have the right to tell what to do or how to do it. Everybody think they have the right to judge you. Nobody is enough educated to be polite or at least talk to you as a ‘person’. Everybody wants a piece of your cake and they want it FOR FREE, because if you tell your price they ge...

Kelsey Lu and Yves Tumor Share New Collaborative Song: Stream

Kelsey Lu and Yves Tumor have teamed up for a new song called “let all the poisons that lurk in the mud seep out”. It’s a murky experimental track that also features contributions from Kelly Moran and Moses Boyd. Lu’s 2019 album Blood and Tumor’s 2020 opus Heaven to a Tortured Mind are quite different in many ways, but they share a low-lit ambiance and a sense of cathedral-like beauty. On this collaborative single, both of their steamy falsettos sound part of the same whole, blending and swirling around one another over woozy piano lines. Eventually, some congas and electronic production enter the fray, and the track concludes with a tastefully busy arrangement. Take a listen to the full tune below. In a statement, Lu described the intense emotions the song is...

Nandi Bushell Crushes Slipknot’s ‘Unsainted’

Nandi Bushell has been a bright spot in an otherwise gloomy 2020. In a year where she’s dazzled and impressed all sorts of musicians, the 10-year-old British phenom decided to end the year on a heavy note with a take on Slipknot’s “Unsainted.” “Yes! I am a total metal head! I love how awesome the drumming is in @Slipknot ! This is my first attempt at double pedals! Taking my playing to the next level. This song is called I #unstainted by #slipknot! Incredible drumming Jay Weinberg! This song brings my A game Corey Taylor #metalhead #metal #heavymetal #doublepedals,” a statement under the video said. Check out her impressive version below. Drum & Bass Veteran Nu:Tone Announces First Album in Six Years, “Little Spaces”

Hospital Records has been a breeding ground for some of the drum & bass genre’s most prolific artists for nearly a quarter of a century. Perhaps one of the label’s best known artists, Nu:Tone has paved the way for a myriad of producers and vocalists over his two-decade tenure in the drum & bass scene.  Nu:Tone’s impressive five-album catalogue has not seen a new entry since 2014, when he released the seminal Future History. After fostering the growth of some of drum & bass’ most influential artists for the past six years via collaborative releases, it was finally time for Nu:Tone’s next album to take center stage.  “Back in January 2020 I had a dream one night that I was holding my new album, and it had the words ‘Little S...

Watch JAMES LABRIE Sing A Cappella Versions Of More DREAM THEATER Songs

Video of DREAM THEATER singer James LaBrie belting out a cappella versions of several of the band’s songs — including “Take The Time” and “Barstool Warrior” — can be seen below. LaBrie sang a couple of lines from each track while filming a new video message on Cameo, which lets users hire celebrities to record brief, personalized video messages about virtually any topic. Cameo reportedly features more than 20,000 celebrities — from musicians and actors to drag queens and from YouTubers to Olympic gold medallists — who, for fees from $1 to $2,500, will offer video messages that mention another person by name. Happy birthday messages are common, as are baby announcements, but some celebrities have also recorded messages for Cameo users looking to quit their jobs...
