Pixar on How Personal Experiences Influenced Soul

Soul marks a series of firsts for Pixar. It’s the first film the studio has ever released with a Black protagonist, a music teacher voiced by Jamie Foxx; it’s the studio’s first film with a Black co-director in screenwriter Kemp Powers; and the first Pixar film to go straight to streaming. Due out on Christmas via Disney+, Soul follows Joe Gardner (Foxx), a music teacher whose aspirations of performing jazz come to fruition after he nabs a cushy performing gig with a well-respected group. That is, until he falls to his death. Now, left as a metaphysical soul, Joe endeavors to return to Earth to his body before it’s too late. It’s an imaginative journey that the Emeryville, California-based animation studio brings to life with a startling array of visuals that feel unprecedented. Edito...

BTS’ Jimin, V Gift ARMY with New Songs “Christmas Love” and “Snow Flower”: Stream

You better not pout, ARMY members, because BTS’ Jimin and V have gifted fans a pair of new Christmas songs, “Christmas Love” and “Snow Flower”. Jimin’s “Christmas Love” is a snappy pop number that shines as crisply as a blanket of fresh snow. The “love” of the track title isn’t about a specific person, however, and more about the feeling this time of year brings to many. Roughly translated from Korean, Jimin sings, “Christmas I love you/ Oh, you’re the one forever/ I wish it was today.” As he explained in a post on the official BTS blog (again, translated from Korean), Jimin wrote the song to reconnect with his childhood memories of the holidays: “As we grew, feeling responsibility for what we have, that responsibility made us, who were innocent, mature and I think that enables us to hide ...

Montaner Family & Camilo Sing Together for the First Time in ‘Amen’

“Amen,” released on Wednesday (Dec. 23) just in time for Christmas, brings together Ricardo, Mau, Ricky and Evaluna Montaner, together with Camilo. “We wrote it all together and yes, it’s the first time we all collaborate together,” said Ricardo Montaner, speaking from the family kitchen, where the extended family was preparing for the 5 p.m. release of the song. “It’s one of the richest professional –not to mention personal—experiences I’ve ever lived.” “Amen” is an anthemic appeal for help and closure. Although the Montaners are devout Christians and Ricardo Montaner in particular often has religious connotations in his songs, the chorus of “Amen, Amen, take away my pain”—can be applied to many situations. “Amen is a universal word that has the same meaning in any language; it’s the word...

Nico Vega Members Unveil ‘Cease & Desist’ Playlist for Donald Trump

President Donald Trump has been using songs in his campaign videos and rallies without permission throughout his term, and Nico Vega has now compiled all of those tracks into a convenient and aptly titled “Cease and Desist” playlist. In response to Trump’s unauthorized use of their song “Beast” in a “Fight for Trump” video last week, former members Aja Volkman-Reynolds and Dan Epand, who now make up the band Two, issued a statement on Twitter. “To be clear, we do not support the use of our song ‘Beast’ in the recent Trump video,” the group wrote. “We have love and empathy for people of all backgrounds, races, and beliefs, and we feel sick how ALL Americans’ fears and vulnerabilities have been exploited over the last four years...

BTS’ Jimin Drops Heart-Warming Solo Holiday Jam, ‘Christmas Love’

“Did you get a good Christmas present?  I really wanted to hear from you, but fortunately, I am very, very happy to be able to do so,” wrote Jimin. “The reason I came here today is the reason why I suddenly heard this bright song in such a difficult situation, I came here because I wanted to tell you a little about the reason. As you know from the song… This song is a scene where my favorite snow falls out of my childhood memories. I sing with my feelings when I first saw them. “As we grow up, it seems that we miss our childhood a lot,” he continued. “Whether that’s the situation now or not, I thought I wanted to go back to that time. A sense of responsibility for something as you grow. That responsibility makes us mature. I thought that ...

EXTREME’s NUNO BETTENCOURT Says EDDIE VAN HALEN’s Rhythm Playing Was Almost As Influential As His Solo Playing

In a brand new interview with “The Mistress Carrie Podcast”, EXTREME guitarist Nuno Bettencourt discussed the legacy of his longtime friend, VAN HALEN icon Eddie Van Halen, who died in October at the age of 65. “Who is the guy that influenced my style, sound, DNA out of everybody? It would be Edward, without a doubt,” Nuno said (hear audio below). “And I wouldn’t have to tell you that — you can hear it in EXTREME‘s sound. Believe it or not, the funky [side of EXTREME‘s sound], people [go], ‘Well, it made you guys different.’ It’s, like, no. Actually, to be honest with you, the songs that I love the most out of VAN HALEN were the ones like [‘Outta Love Again’]. That’s where I got some of that rock/funk [from...

Updated: LESLIE WEST Dies After Suffering Cardiac Arrest

**Update**: Leslie West, the legendary guitarist, vocalist and original founding member of MOUNTAIN, has died at the age of 75. Leslie‘s brother, Larry West Weinstein, confirmed the musician’s passing to Rolling Stone. West suffered cardiac arrest at his home near Daytona, Florida on Monday (December 21) and was rushed to a hospital, where he never regained consciousness. The news of the 75-year-old rocker’s deteriorating health was broken by his brother, who took to his Facebook page on Monday (December 21) to say that Leslie was gravely ill and near death after his heart stopped, and that he was put on a ventilator. “I am asking for all your prayers,” Weinstein wrote in a since-deleted post. “[Leslie‘s wife] Jenni is by his side in Florida but it...

Kirk Hammett Reflects on Entire Metallica Career: James and Lars “Don’t Even Remember” First Meeting Me

Kirk Hammett has certainly had a memorable 37-year career in Metallica, with the band still going strong. However, his first meeting with longtime bandmates James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich apparently wasn’t memorable for them. The guitarist reflected on his entire Metallica run in a new 80-minute interview for Gibson Guitars’ “Icons” series. One of the stories he told was the time he first met Hetfield and Ulrich. At the time, Hammett was a member of the band Exodus while Metallica were getting buzz as a rising thrash band in the Bay Area. “I remember we were just sitting around one day, and the singer of Exodus, a guy named Paul Baloff, who was an absolute maniac, he walked into the rehearsal and said, ‘Metallica. So heavy. They’re so heavy.’ And I was, like, ‘Metallica.’ And I thought, ‘W...

Sex and the City Reboot Coming to HBO Max

It looks like Sex and the City is getting a reboot. Deadline confirmed with sources that HBO is working out a deal to revive the beloved drama as a limited series for its premium streaming service, HBO Max. If this pans out, it will be the latest of three HBO classics to be rebooted on the streaming service. Over the summer, the WarnerMedia-owned company announced the revival of its beloved psychotherapy drama In Treatment. And earlier this month we learned that a reboot of the cult-favorite vampire series True Blood was also in the works. However, considering that Sex and the City was undoubtedly one of the most iconic shows of the 2000s, a proper reboot would be a huge deal. The series that Darren Star created based on Candace Bushnell’s book ran for six seasons ...
