Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond isn’t just another first-person shooter set in World War II. The latest title from Respawn Entertainment not only pushes modern virtual reality technology to its limits in a way that most games wouldn’t dare to touch, but it’s also much more grounded in reality than something like Call of Duty often portrays. Rather than ignoring history in favor of flashier fight sequences and bigger spectacles, the first Medal of Honor game since 2012 is based entirely on real people and events — even to the point of including more than 90 minutes of interviews with veterans as a documentary-like extra feature. The game spared no expense in bringing out the somber realities of war along and making a borderline educational experience in addition to a thrilling shooter. To ...
Lana Del Rey performed her new single “Let Me Love You Like a Woman” live for the first time during a Monday night appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The pre-recorded performance was filmed at a rustic dive bar and saw Del Rey accompanied by a four-piece band and a trio of backing singers. Catch the replay below. “Let Me Love You Like a Woman” serves as the first single from Del Rey’s Chemtrails Over the Country Club, which was recently pushed back until the spring due to production delays. To tide fans over, the singer is planning to drop a new album of American standards for Christmas. Over the summer, Del Rey published her first poetry collection, titled Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass. Featuring music by her frequent collaborator and bon...
Taylor Swift joined Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday night for her first television interview since releasing her second surprise album of the year, evermore, and sister album to this summer’s folklore. During the interview, Swift debunked a fan rumor that she is planning to release a third surprise album called woodvale. “This takes a bit of explanation,” Swift began. “I tend to be sort of annoyingly secret-agenty about dropping clues and hints and Easter eggs and it’s very annoying but it’s fun for fans and it’s fun for me because they like to pick up on things. And they’ll notice lots of things in music videos or photos or whatever, and then sometimes, I take it too far, and I make a mistake.” As Swift explained, woodvale was merely the working title for folklore and her team “forg...
Listen via Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Stitcher | Google | Pocket Casts | Radio Public | RSS Presented by Consequence of Sound and Sound Mind Live, Going There with Dr. Mike is a new interview podcast series in which clinical psychologist and life coach Dr. Mike Friedman talks with musicians about the crossroads where music and mental health meet. Sometimes it’s caused by a specific event (e.g. an assault or plane crash); in other cases, it’s the result of an ongoing series of events (e.g. racial discrimination). Coming off his new album Anime, Trauma, and Divorce, Open Mike Eagle also explains how t...

With theaters shuttered up and movie chains filing for bankruptcy, one might argue it’s been a pretty crap year for cinema. Financially speaking, they’re not wrong. But, art is a funny thing. It has a way of enduring even the most arduous obstacles — you know, that whole Ian Malcolm, Jurassic Park, “life finds a way” bit — and this year was a testament to that truth. Art had no issue finding a proper stage. That stage, as fate...
Lana Del Rey performed “Let Me Love You Like A Woman” for the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. But that wasn’t the most noteworthy element of her socially-distanced performance. The Tonight Show’s Twitter account wrote that the singer was “Making her first U.S. TV appearance in 9 years.” Though the math doesn’t technically check out (Del Rey performed on SNL in January 2012), it has been a long time since the singer-songwriter appeared since that critically-panned performance. As for the song itself, it had a full complement of back-up singers along with Del Rey’s band and was filmed on an old-timey bar-themed set. Check out Del Rey’s performance of “Let Me Love You Like a Woman on the Tonight Show below. [embedded content] “Let Me Love You Like A Woman,” will appear on D...
In a corner of Eastern Europe — far, far away from the glitz, glam and flex selfies of U.S. trap — three fierce women are smashing conceptions and changing a genre that’s emerged as one of the most popular in the world. They don’t give a fuck about your standards, stereotypes or anything else. P0LLY, BRUJA, BRASOV: the loud voices carving out the Romanian female trap scene. With an indisputable punk ethos, goth aesthetics and mosh-loaded concerts, they’ve long surpassed the restrictive “trap” label altogether. Toying with gore and fetishism, leaping from trap to heavy metal — often within the same track — P0LLY embodies the duality that drives her eclectic sound. Aggressive guitar riffs and growls, explosive visuals, blood, sex, vulnerability, chaos: That complexity fuels P0LLY singles lik...
Welcome to Blast Rites, SPIN’s monthly metal column! Every month we’ll dig up the heaviest metal out there, stylistic boundaries be damned. Hot albums, hot tracks, hot whatever — we’ll bring only the most hellish heat. This month, we’ll bust open operatic black metal, filthy Danish death metal, and a split featuring Houston grindcore legends and Australia’s burliest bruisers, as well as remembering Cynic bassist Sean Malone. Folterkammer – Die Lederpredigt (Gilead Media) Not since Reed St. Mark joining Celtic Frost for their landmark LP To Mega Therion has such a formidable Swiss-American metal alliance emerged: Folterkammer, with their debut Die Lederpredigt, bring together Imperial Triumphant guitarist Zachary Ezrin and Swiss vocalist Andromeda Anarchia for black metal with operatic voca...
Trained as a ballet dancer, Reinking was known for her bold style of dance epitomized by her work in the revival of the Kander and Ebb musical “Chicago,” complete with net stockings, chair dancing and plenty of pelvic thrusts. Reinking co-starred as Roxie Hart along with Bebe Neuwirth’s Velma, and created the choreography “in the style of Bob Fosse,” the show’s original director and choreographer who died in 1987. She and Fosse worked together for 15 years and she was also his lover for several of them. “I’m beyond words to hear of the sudden and untimely passing of my dear friend Ann Reinking. The world has lost such a beautiful soul and talent,” said Chita Rivera. “I loved sharing the stage with her whenever we could. Her spirit and razzle-dazzle will be with me forever.” Reinking’s work...
