Adrian Smith has praised late producer Martin Birch for his work with IRON MAIDEN, saying “he let us sound like we sounded.” The British music producer, whose nickname was Headmaster, died in August at the age of 71. He was perhaps best known for his 11-year stint with MAIDEN, serving as the producer and engineer of such classic albums as “Killers”, “The Number Of The Beast”, “Piece Of Mind” and “Somewhere In Time”. In keeping with the dark lyrics of Public Enemy’s single “Grid,” the group dropped an appropriately apocalyptic video featuring pals Cypress Hill and George Clinton. The clip includes footage from PE’s performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Directed by David C. Snyder, the video for “GRID” is the latest from PE’s recent album, What You Gonna Do When The Grid Goes Down? which saw the previously released “Public Enemy Number Won” video from the LP. Electronic music producer Four Tet and hip-hop producer Madlib are joining forces for a new collaborative album. Titled Sound Ancestors, it’s due out next month via Madlib Invazion. The upcoming effort has been in the works “for the last few years,” according to a statement posted to Four Tet’s social media on Sunday. “[Madlib] is always making loads of music in all sorts of styles and I was listening to some of his new beats and studio sessions when I had the idea that it would be great to hear some of these ideas made into a Madlib solo album,” he noted. The 11-track collection, on Third Man Records, was recorded September 27, 1999, at the 40 Watt Club in Athens, Georgia.
