The “15 Minutes Show” hosted by international artist Tomer Peretz has released its latest collaboration with KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons. Conceptual artist and painter Peretz is known for capturing the underlying element of mystery and more than meets the eye in his portraits. With an appreciation for realism, surrealism, and the unknown, Peretz‘s breadth of work spans contemporary and figurative art. The live-action Spider-Verse can’t be stopped. It’s self-sustaining now. Alfred Molina is officially reprising his Doctor Octopus role from 2004’s classic Spider-Man 2 in Marvel’s upcoming third Spider-Man film (via The Hollywood Reporter). Molina turned in a fan-favorite performance as Dr. Otto Octavius to face Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man in the second entry in Sam Raimi’s trilogy. That film is widely considered one of the best superhero movies of all time. Now, Molina will strap on the mechanical arms once more to face off against Tom Holland’s Spidey in the hero’s third solo Marvel Cinematic Universe adventure. The addition of another villain from a past series adds further confirmation that Spider-Man 3 is going to be a reality-hopping affair. Marvel blew the doors off the Spider-Verse ...
Less than three months after dropping Fear of Death, comedian-musician extraordinaire Tim Heidecker has announced his next release. Titled Office Hours Live presents Slaps, Bops & Bangers, it features songs from his podcast of the same name. Launched back in 2016, the Office Hours Live podcast sees Heidecker conducting phone and video calls with fans and special commentators. He hosts the program with Vic Berger and Doug “DJ Douggpound” Lussenhop, but other celebrities such as Heidecker’s Moonbase co-stars Fred Armisen and John C. Reilly have been known to periodically drop in. (Mac DeMarco and Bon Iver even made cameos during an eight-hour fundraiser recording of the podcast back in March.) A natural extension of the podcast, the forthcoming compilation album finds Heidecker...
The Pitch: Before he was an award-winning author of books like Brixton Rock and Island Songs, Alex Wheatle (Sheyi Cole) spent a short time in prison following his involvement in the 1981 Brixton riots, an explosive confrontation between the police and the neighborhood’s Afro-Caribbean community. There, with the help of his Rastafarian cellmate Simeon (Robbie Gee), Alex looks back on his life — a childhood marred by mistreatment in foster care homes and bolstered by his budding career as a DJ in Brixton — and tries to figure out what to do, and who to be, next. Short But Sweet: Of the five films in writer/director Steve McQueen‘s anthology about the West Indian communities of London from the ’60s to the ’80s, Alex Wheatle is by far the shortest (clocking in at 65 minutes). Th...
If you want to make that special Weezer fan you know happy this holiday season, Rivers Cuomo has a gift for you. The Weezer singer/guitarist just posted 2,655 demos on his website that are now for sale. Priced at $9 per era, it goes wayyyyy back to when he was a 6-year-old in 1976 through 2015. Why did he decide to release these now? Because it’s finals time! In a tweet, Cuomo explained that building the site was part of a project for the class “CS50’s Web Programming with Python and JavaScript.” The market page was added to his existing Mr. Rivers’ Neighborhood site, which launched last month. If you’re a completist and want the whole collection, you’ll get nearly two days of music for $81. The EWBAITE Years (2011-2014) alone is a whopping 38 hours worth of material and contains...
Odetta, Odetta Sings Dylan (1965)Dylan has credited Odetta with turning him on to folk music – he has said he heard her album Odetta Sings Ballads and Blues and “went out and traded my electric guitar and amplifier for an acoustical guitar.” Here, on one of the first albums of Dylan covers, she makes some of his early political songs sound like they’re old folk tunes and brings a frank earthiness to “Baby, I’m In the Mood for You.” It sounds like this version influenced Miley Cyrus’ 2017 performance of the song on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Really. The Hollies, Words and Music By Bob Dylan (1969)When Graham Nash left the Hollies to join Crosby, Stills & Nash, his former band recorded what he regarded as a relatively tame album of D...
StageIt was founded in 2009 as a livestream platform but has seen a, wait for it, unprecedented surge in activity since March. A leader in providing a platform for artists to host ticketed livestreams, they helped acts monetize live performances (both in ticket sales and tips during broadcasts) when the most lucrative piece of artists’ business was on pause. Perhaps the most successful artist on the platform was Blue October. The Texan rock band played a series of livestreams centered around different albums from their discography and collectively grossed more than $506,000 across 10 streams. This achievement is, in part, due to the group’s engagement with fans, walking a thin line between selling tickets on the platform in order to earn a living and respecting the delicate financial polit...
