DEFTONES Frontman’s CROSSES Surprise-Releases First New Music In Six Years

††† (CROSSES) — DEFTONES frontman Chino Moreno‘s project with FAR guitarist Shaun Lopez — has surprise-released a cover of “The Beginning Of The End” by ’90s electropop band CAUSE & EFFECT. This is the first new music from the alternative band since its 2014-released, self-titled record. Moreno told The Pulse Of Radio how he got involved with the group in the first place, which was started by Lopez and Chuck Doom. “Shaun and Chuck were working together for a while before I came into the picture, and I just so happened to come in one day,” he said. “These guys were, you know, writing some stuff and I heard it and I liked it right off the bat, and I sort of weaseled my way [Laughs] into the project. I think their idea was to get a bunch of differ...

DAVID ELLEFSON: Why MEGADETH Opens Its Live Shows With ‘Hangar 18’

During a December 5-6 Headbangers Con live virtual panel, MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson explained why he and his bandmates have been opening all of their live performances in recent years with “Hangar 18”, a classic track from MEGADETH‘s 1990 album “Rust In Peace”. He said (see video below): “For a long time, we used to open the show with ‘Holy Wars’, and then we started to move that back to an encore. In 2010, we were on tour in Europe with SLAYER — in ’10 or ’11 — and we were in Russia, Saint Petersburg; our first time there. And Dave [Mustaine, MEGADETH mainman] fell ill with a kidney stone. He was starting to have some stones, and it hit him — I don’t know — an hour before we were gonna go on stage. We thought we were ...

Chino Moreno’s ✞✞✞ (Crosses) Cover “The Beginning of the End”, First New Track in Six Years: Stream

Deftones singer Chino Moreno has resurrected ✞✞✞ (Crosses) and released the first new track from the project in six years. It comes in the form of a cover of Cause & Effect’s “The Beginning of the End”. Crosses unleashed their self-titled debut album in 2014, but hasn’t released any new music or performed any shows since that year. The band’s lineup is comprised of Moreno, guitarist Shaun Lopez, and bassist Chuck Doom, although a press release for the new single only mentions Moreno and Lopez. For Crosses’ return, Moreno turned to a song by fellow Sacramento act Cause & Effect, an electropop band who released their self-titled debut album in 1990. “The Beginning of the End” is a track from that first LP, and it gives off some very strong Depeche Mode vibes. Crosses’ version do...

BRIAN WHEAT: TESLA’s Six-Year Break ‘Taught Us To Appreciate The Band Again’

TESLA bassist Brian Wheat, who is promoting his just-released autobiography, “Son Of A Milkman: My Crazy Life With Tesla”, spoke to Meltdown of Detroit’s WRIF radio station about how the rise of grunge in the early 1990s forced most hard rock bands off the radio and MTV, with album and tour sales plummeting. “We never really listened too much to what anyone else was doing; we only kind of did what we did,” Brian said. “Where it caught us off guard was that the year before, we were the record company’s champions — they loved us, and they had been loving on us for the last four or five years. And when the grunge thing came out, they were, like, ‘Well, we might drop you.’ And we were, like, ‘What? What are you talking about?’ B...

So we started on it at the end of the summer, and it’s gonna be a really good movie. But we’re gonna take our time with it. We’re aiming at releasing it in a couple of years when I turn 60 — in 2022. “It’s not gonna be a list of things I’ve done,” Michael clarified. “It’s gonna be more l...

ACCEPT’s WOLF HOFFMANN: ‘Life Without Concerts Is Not Worth Living’

In a new interview with Metal Jacket Magazine, ACCEPT guitarist Wolf Hoffmann spoke about what he thinks life will be like post-pandemic. He said (hear audio below): “I don’t know what metal is gonna be like, but I think life in general is gonna be different. Maybe it’s gonna be like it was pre-9/11, when you could go at an airport and go to the gate without security and all that kind of stuff. And after 9/11, when everything changed, and once it changes, it never goes back to normal. So it might be that we, from now on, have different measures in place, and they’re gonna be here to stay. I don’t think that we’re all gonna have to wear face masks forever, but certain elements of all this kind of behavior, I’m sure, is gonna stay. I cannot imagine o...

Kanye West Releases Emmanuel Christmas EP

For the second year in a row, Kanye West has surprise-released a Christmas EP, only this time it takes a much different twist. Last year, West’s Jesus Is Born was gospel-inspired. This time, the rapper/mogul/ex-presidential candidate took things up a notch. Titled Emmanuel, which means “God is with us,” West’s Sunday Service Choir performed while West composed the music and executive produced as well. The five-song, 12-minute EP is described as being inspired by “ancient and Latin music” and is a “celebration of the miracle of the birth of Jesus Christ.” Listen to it below. Earlier this year, West promised to release new music on an album titled DONDA, which seemingly would have been a tribute to his late mother. That music was never released, but he did manage to pee on one of h...
