Mike Patton: John Carpenter’s Halloween “Made Me Not Want to Trick or Treat When I Was a Kid”

Mike Patton is a man of many musical hats. He’s the celebrated singer of Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk, and Dead Cross, just to name a few, as well as the co-owner of the acclaimed independent record label Ipecac Recordings. He also knows a good scary movie when he sees one. We recently had the pleasure of speaking with Patton, who told us all about Mr. Bungle’s new album, The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny Demo, and how he was navigating the pandemic both professionally and personally. During our conversation, he also took time to remember the late Eddie Van Halen, telling us the guitarist’s “level of musicianship was off the chart.” Knowing Patton was a bit of a film buff, we couldn’t let him go without asking him to recommend a few movies for Halloween night, especially consider...

Ranking: Every James Bond Movie from Worst to Best

This feature originally ran in November 2015 and is being republished in honor of the late Sir Sean Connery. Despite its relatively rigid formulas, the past 60 years have seen 007 innovate and change with the times — from the swinging ’60s sophistication of Sean Connery to the wacky, winking camp of Roger Moore in the ’70s; from Timothy Dalton’s harder edge in the ‘80s to the slick, techno-infused commercialism of Pierce Brosnan in the ’90s. Even Daniel Craig’s macho navel-gazing has brought us a more sensitive, introspective Bond for a 21st century audience. To that end, us agents here at Consequence of Sound decided to provide our own collective assessment of the Bond films from worst to best, along with our dissection of what makes each entry unique. So sit back with your vodka martini ...

Concert Review: Puscifer’s Streaming Show Features Eye-Popping Visuals and Crystal-Clear Sound

Setting the Stage: Under normal circumstances, fans would quite possibly be enjoying seeing Puscifer performing tunes off their latest album, Existential Reckoning, at a packed venue. But, of course, 2020 has thrown us countless curveballs — tops being the COVID-19 pandemic canceling all extensive tours and most in-person performances. Fortunately, some bands have become creative and found other ways to perform – whether it be drive-in outdoor concerts (where fans can watch from afar while in or around their car), or via professionally filmed livestreams. On October 30th (the same date that Existential Reckoning was released), Puscifer opted for the latter, offering a show from the middle of the Arizona desert for fans to view on their most convenient electronic device with the purcha...

Jordan Peele to Produce Remake of Wes Craven’s The People Under the Stairs

It’s barely been a year since Jordan Peele’s last movie, Us, hit theaters and shattered box office expectations. Now, he’s landed on his next project: a remake of Wes Craven’s horror satire The People Under the Stairs. According to Collider, Peele has signed on to produce a new version of the 1991 movie for Universal. Win Rosenfield will join him in the production department via their Monkeypaw Productions house. There’s no word yet if Peele will take the reins as the director for the remake or help write the script, but fingers crossed. The original version of The People Under the Stairs followed a young boy and two adult thieves as they break into a house to steal a rare coin collection, but wind up getting trapped inside. That’s when they have to face the Robesons, the bizarre coup...

Sean Connery, Legendary James Bond Actor, Dies at 90

Sean Connery, the legendary actor who is debatably the best known James Bond, has died at the age of 90. Connery’s son Jason told the BBC that he died peacefully in his sleep while in the Bahamas and had been “unwell for some time.” Born on Aug. 25, 1930 in Edinburgh, Connery featured as James Bond at the series’ onset, becoming the defining actor in the spy thriller. In addition to playing Bond, the actor was known for his role as Indiana Jones’ father in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The Rock, The Hunt for Red October and for winning an Oscar in 1988 for Best-Supporting Actor in The Untouchables. Connery’s final film appearance came in 2003’s The League of Extraordinary Gentleman. Sir Sean Connery has died at the age of 90. He was the first actor to pl...

RL Grime’s 2020 Halloween Mix Doubles as a Quasi-Horror Film

RL Grime has finally unveiled the 9th edition of his annual Halloween mix, and it may have been the most memorable yet. The electrifying set was streamed live and paired with a dazzling live visual spectacle featuring zombies, hellbent robots, and bizarre monsters. It all started with the introduction, which RL Grime always uses to pull a rabbit out of his hat. This year, the trap music kingpin recruited none other than T-Pain, who handled intro duties with a Halloween-themed freestyle to the melody of his global hit “Buy U a Drank.” We like to think this little rendezvous may lead to a collaboration. What follows is RL Grime’s typical flurry of mind-bending bass music, highlighting the next wave of producers to usher in a new age of trap. Some of the track...

Under A Godless Veil – DRACONIAN

RATING: 8.5/10 Get ready to swoon. Get ready to shed a tear. DRACONIAN have created a gorgeous, mournful masterpiece here. A band that have long deserved greater recognition for their consistent and immersive catalogue of albums, the Swedes may share some obvious traits with other gothic (and maybe even funeral) doom bands, but “Under A Godless Veil” eschews many contemporary amendments to the blueprint, homing in on this music’s ageless, haunting power and the visceral magic of melody. As ever, clean vocalist Heike Langhans provides the album’s tender, human heart, while Anders Jacobsson‘s scabrous growls tether everything to hell’s gates, but where previous albums had occasionally drifted into gothic cliché, every one of these lumbering mini-epics fizz...

DAVID LEE ROTH Shares Song From His Unreleased Album With JOHN 5

David Lee Roth has shared a song called “Somewhere Over The Rainbow Bar And Grill” from the unreleased album he wrote and recorded with guitarist John 5 several years ago. You can now listen to it below. John 5 got his first big break playing on Roth‘s solo album, “DLR Band”, before landing stints with Marilyn Manson and now Rob Zombie. His latest sessions with the iconic VAN HALEN frontman apparently took place at least six years ago, with John 5 unveiling a snippet of the album during an interview with Masters Of Shred back in May 2019. Last year, Roth was asked by Meltdown of the Detroit radio station WRIF if his LP with John 5 will be made available at some point. He responded: “It will. There’s been a revision of things, and I can start making...

THY ART IS MURDER Drops Lyric Video For New Single ‘Killing Season’

Australian deathcore masters THY ART IS MURDER have unveiled the lyric video for their new single, “Killing Season”. The song is rooted in the band’s sonic origins with its classic bone-crunching death metal paired with a relentless ferocity that takes a wrecking ball to all in its path. In keeping with the band’s tradition of shining a floodlight on socio-political trauma and history’s atrocities, the lyrics for “Killing Season” are inspired by the whitewashing of colonialism, and the song tackles the brutal reality of systemic racism in the western world head-on. Written on Thanksgiving 2019, “Killing Season” examines the genesis of the national holiday and its lesser-known bloody history that’s far from the sanitized version ce...

Chappelle’s Show Coming to Netflix

Netflix has acquired the streaming rights to Dave Chappelle’s brilliant early aughts sketch comedy series Chappelle’s Show. The show’s full three-season, 28-episode run will be available on the streaming platform beginning November 1st. Chappelle’s Show famously aired for three seasons between 2003 and 2006 on Comedy Central, and is widely considered to be one of the best comedies of its time. However, mid-way through the show’s third season, Chappelle abruptly walked away. He later stated that he was “burned out” from the intensive shooting schedule, and also felt the show’s popularity took away from his standup career (he could only take hearing an audience member yell “I’m Rick James, bitch!” so many times.) He then embarked on a prolonged hiatus, during which he only gav...
