Watch the Flaming Lips Stage ‘Bubble Show’ in ‘Assassins for Youth’ Video

The Flaming Lips document their socially distanced “bubble” show in Oklahoma City with their new “Assassins of Youth” video. Despite the strangeness of seeing attendees in their own individual bubbles, everyone appears to be having a good time. It’s part rave, part Lips extravaganza, and everyone gets in on the action — including singer Wayne Coyne, who walks atop the crowd in his own bubble (a staple of the Lips’ concerts for quite a while now). Coyne, who also directed the video, detailed the filming process in a statement. “Of course, our MAIN priority (when doing the performance for the music video) was making sure everyone was safe and all the health cautions were being enforced,” he said. “But there was a welcome side effect: ‘I forgot about how exciting and fun and ridiculous i...

Kazakhstan’s Tourism Board Embraces Borat’s “Very Nice!” as New Slogan

In a classic example of if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em, Kazakhstan has reversed course on its Borat stance. After years trying to distance itself from Sacha Baron Cohen’s satirical character, the country has decided to embrace his popularity by using his catchphrase “Very Nice!” as its new tourism slogan. The Kazakhstan tourism board has unveiled a new series of ads that show visitors exploring all the country has to offer. As they marvel at the natural landscapes, architectural wonders, and delicious foods, each individual declares a satisfied, “Very nice!” Ridiculous accent not included. “In COVID times, when tourism spending is on hold, it was good to see the country mentioned in the media,” the deputy chairman of Kazakhstan’s tourism board, Kairat Sadvakassov, told The New York Times....

Jordana Shares New Single “I Guess This is Life”: Stream

Indie pop artist Jordana will cap off 2020 with a new album called Something to Say to You. The sophomore effort is comprised of two EPs, this past summer’s Something to Say and To You, which is out the same day as the complete full-length. Following last month’s single “Divine”, the musician born Jordana Nye is now previewing the LP with “I Guess This is Life”. Similar to its predecessor, today’s track sees Jordana formulating a more polished and punctuated pop sound, thanks in part to her producer Jeffrey Melvin, better known under his EDM moniker MELVV. Subject-wise, Jordana takes a step back to really evaluate her life in a very present and mindful type of way. The new song is “about the motions of everyday life and how experiences, no matter big or small, make up the person ...

The Pogues’ Shane MacGowan Jokes and Drinks in the First Trailer for New Documentary Crock of Gold: Watch

The Pogues had a brief, furious run of success, spurred on by a genius frontman who seemed to have trouble staying hydrated. Now you can get vicariously sauced with the new documentary Crock of Gold: A Few Rounds with Shane MacGowan, available in wide release starting December 4th. From 1984 to 1991, MacGowan and the Pogues explored the punk rock side of traditional Irish music, reinventing both genres in the process. They were appointment viewing whenever MacGowan showed up, which became increasingly rare towards the end of his tenure. In 1990 he was so unreliable that the band couldn’t tour for their album Hell’s Ditch, and in 1991 they gave him the sack. His war on sobriety intermittently continued until 2016, when he detoxed during a lengthy hospital stay. Reportedly, he’s be...

Taylor Swift Reflects on ‘RED’: ‘My True Breakup Album’

“I look back on this as my true breakup album, every other album has flickers of different things,” she says in a snippet. “But this was an album that I wrote specifically about pure, absolute, to the core, heartbreak.” It might have been a painful time for Taylor, but boy Swifties love the album. Sony Music Shrugs Off Pandemic, Reports Q2 Gains

Within that, the company received a one-time gain of 6.5 billion yen ($62.2 million) by selling shares of Big Hit Entertainment subsidiary Pledis and another 5.4 billion yen ($50.85 million) in what it terms a music company business transfer of an undisclosed business, which it apparently no longer owns a stake in. BLACK STONE CHERRY bassist Jon Lawhon has told MisplacedStraws.com that he and his bandmates make a conscious effort to not get involved in politics when it comes to their music and public statements. “We try our absolute best to stay non-political,” he said. “We, of course, all have our political views. Every person in the world does. “I’ll be honest with you — as of right now, this is the first time — and I’m not gonna tell you which way or the other; I won’t — but this is the first time in the band’s career that we’ve all been on the same pages as to who we feel should be voted for,” he continued. “First time in our career. PAPA ROACH Checks In From Studio: ‘Live From The Bubble Pt. 1’

PAPA ROACH recently entered a studio in Southern California to begin writing and recording material for the follow-up to last year’s “Who Do You Trust?” album. Earlier today, the quartet uploaded a short video from the studio dubbed “Papa Roach – Live From The Bubble Pt. 1” and included the following message: “It’s 2020 and like all bands, we had to cancel massive tours, so we’re taking this opportunity to get in the studio and write new music together. We all got tested and quarantined ourselves in ‘the bubble’ to write our next album.” Last month, PAPA ROACH singer Jacoby Shaddix spoke to Shroom of the WEBN radio station about the musical direction of the band’s new material.
