Just over halfway through Hannah, the stunning, open-hearted new album from Lomelda, there’s a crucial moment of affirmation. Nothing is working—singer-songwriter Hannah Read’s body refuses to cooperate; her hands aren’t opening, her limbs are weakening. A security guard finds her splayed out on all fours. Singing about the moment over somber piano, Read’s voice cracks: “She asked me what’s your name/Are you ok?” The magic of Lomelda’s music is in that exchange, an infusion of strength and care from one person to another, no matter how small or ordinary. It has anchored Read’s songwriting from the beginning, and it is threaded throughout Hannah, which is warm and enveloping, like a hug. More than ever, Read’s writing grapples with identity—how we see ourselves, how we’re seen—and the songs...

LACUNA COIL singer Cristina Scabbia recently spoke to Campus Party about how the coronavirus pandemic has affected the music industry, with pretty much every live show, and festival being canceled or postponed. She said (see video below): “It feels crazy, ’cause it has already changed the music industry, because everything stopped. There is nothing happening — gatherings, of course, are not possible, and concerts are all about gathering, are all about people getting together, sweating together, singing in each other’s face. So, of course, everything stopped, no traveling allowed. We had to cancel two tours, and, of course, I know many, many friends and artists that had to do the same. “The craziest thing is that we don’t know when everything will restart again...

Veteran electronic music outfit Autechre are set to return with a new album this fall. Dubbed SIGN, it’s due out October 16th through longtime label Warp Records. The forthcoming effort follows the duo’s NTS Sessions, a collection of music broadcast during Autechre’s NTS Radio residency in 2018, as well as elseq 1-5 from 2016, a record comprised of five 50-minute segments. Per a statement, with a running time just a little over an hour, SIGN marks the British group’s first standard-length album since Exai from way back in 2013. SIGN contains a total of 11 songs. Among them are titles such as “M4 Lema”, “Metaz form8”, “gr4”, and “psin AM”, all seemingly strange and nonsensical, as is usually the case for Autechre’s Rob Brown and Sean Booth. One of our most anticipated TV series of Fall 2020, the upcoming season will feature the addition of Timothy Olyphant as Cobb Vanth (reportedly in the Boba Fett armor); Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, the former Jedi Padawan of Anakin Skywalker turned spymaster for the Rebel Alliance; and the return of Jengo Fett actor Temuera Morrison, only this time he’s playing Boba Fett. In our review, Consequence of Sound described The Mandalorian Season 1 as “the riskiest Star Wars expansion yet,” with writer Andrew Bloom specifically&nb...
The Lowdown: Since he first emerged on the hip-hop landscape, Big Sean has been recognized as one of the most talented MCs in the game. After displaying his skills in the presence of Kanye West at a local radio station, he was signed to G.O.O.D. Music in 2007, becoming one of the imprint’s flagship artists and continuing the legacy of Detroit hip-hop. With a frequent string of mixtapes and hit albums released throughout the 2010s, Big Sean garnered critical acclaim and commercial success, catapulting him into superstardom. It could be argued, quite convincingly, that Big Sean gave birth to a style that has influenced an entire generation of rappers, which brings us to the present. Taking time off to manage his mental health and discovering a renewed sense of inspiration, he makes his long-...

Justin Bieber took a moment to reflect on his past, present and future — and expressed his hope to someday be a father — this weekend. “I came from a small town in Stratford Ontario Canada. I didn’t have material things and was never motivated by money or fame I just loved music. But as I became a teenager I let my insecurities and frustrations dictate what I put my value in,” Bieber wrote in a note posted on Instagram Sunday night (Sept. 6). He continued: “My values slowly started to change. Ego and power started to takeover and my relationships suffered because of it.” “I truly desire healthy relationships,” Bieber said. “I want to be motivated by truth and love. I want to be aware of my blind spots and learn from them! I want to...
Big Sean is opening up about the mental health struggles he faced before releasing his new album, Detroit 2, last week. “I don’t feel like this currently, but I had never gone through wanting to kill myself, give up on my life until the past few years and I didn’t realize how important it was to embrace the ups n downs of life and enjoy (in joy) taking active steps to better it. it’s the Journey!” he wrote in a candid series of tweets Sunday evening (Sept. 7). “I thought doing what I loved would always make me happy and satisfied, so when I got tired of it, I was confused and it drove me insane,” the rapper said. “Later i realized I was just growing n had to gain a new mentality and foundation on many levels n re-discover my passion! And try new things.”...
