PAPA ROACH is currently at a studio in Southern California writing and recording material for the follow-up to last year’s “Who Do You Trust?” album. Speaking to Shroom of the WEBN radio station, singer Jacoby Shaddix stated about the musical direction of the new PAPA ROACH material (see video below): “This stuff is fire. It feels so good to be back in and creating music with the guys. Especially ’cause we’re not on the road, it’s a good thing for us to do is to get together and live our purpose. Creating is, I believe, my life’s purpose — writing songs and connecting with people through music. “The stuff is, some of it’s really aggressive and abrasive and angry, and some of it is very self-reflective as well in the sense of, like...
RAVEN bassist/vocalist John Gallagher has blasted bands who rely heavily on pre-recorded tracks during their live performances. In recent years, more and more artists have been given a pass for using backing tracks, drum triggers and other assorted technology that makes concerts more synthetic but also more consistent. Speaking to The Metal Gods Meltdown about some rock acts’ reliance on pre-recorded tracks, John said (hear audio below): “It’s ludicrous. I saw bands who’ve got nine people on stage and still 50 percent of what you hear is on backing tracks. It’s disgusting. C’mon, man. You don’t need that. Take a band like QUEEN. They had more overdubs and more pomp and circumstance and extra icing on the cake than any other band in history, especia...
Atlanta progressive metallers MASTODON are preparing to enter the studio to begin recording their next album, according to bassist/vocalist Troy Sanders. The follow-up to 2017’s “Emperor Of Sand” will mark MASTODON‘s first collection of new material since the death of longtime manager Nick John and the passing of tour manager Bob Dallas. Speaking to Dean Delray‘s “Let There Be Talk” podcast, Sanders said (hear audio below): “We bought a building a couple of years ago. It’s called Ember City. It’s on the west end of Atlanta. And we’ve got about 17 rehearsal spots in here for local bands and a studio in the basement — a top-shelf studio called West End Sound — where we’ve been demoing all this material for a new record, ...
Sebastian Bach has recorded a quarantine cover version of former JOURNEY singer Steve Perry‘s 1984 solo hit “Oh Sherrie”. Bach uploaded the video to his social media, saying: “Bored in my house after seven months, decided to put on a record and sing a song for you. “For all you audiophiles out there, what you are hearing right here is my voice panned either to the left or the right or both of Steve Perry‘s voice which is in the center which I left alone,” he explained. “So technically this is a duet, my voice is louder in the mix than the track and you can hear us both. I do not have pro tools installed on my computer, this is at the most two of my voices in the chorus only. Crank it up right from my record room to yours!” Back in 2018,...

Yes, ABC’s hit celebrity reality competition show has booked Tiger King star Carole Baskin to join the Season 29 cast. Other “famous” contestants for the new season include Monica Aldama, a head coach from Netflix’s Cheer; Bachelorette lead Kaitlyn Bristowe; NFL tight end Vernon Davis; Skai Jackson, Disney Channel star and voice actress; actress Anne Heche; Nev Schulman, host of MTV’s Catfish; Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir; former NB...
This review is part of our Fantasia Festival 2020 coverage. The Pitch: Legendary purveyors of late night schlock, Troma Entertainment put their own spin on William Shakespeare’s The Tempest by swapping out a tropical storm for gallons of whale feces and a deserted island for New Jersey. All of this in an attempt to skewer online culture and big pharma’s conquering of America with gross-out gags and a politically incorrect sensibility. What Is Past Is Prologue: That iconic Troma logo — you know, the one with the New York City skyline set against a blood red sky with spotlights in the air — is like a warm blanket for genre cinema lovers who were weaned by Gilbert Gottfried and Rhonda Sheer on USA’s Up All Night. The memorable, simplistic fan fare conjures up an instant wave of nostalgia, but...
Micachu and the Shapes, the noisy indie-pop band led by Under the Skin composer Mica Levi, are back. They have renamed the group Good Sad Happy Bad — taken from their 2015 full-length of the same name — and have announced a new album called Shades. It’s due out October 16th via French label Textile Records. Shades is Good Sad Happy Bad’s fifth studio album to date and their first new music since releasing the Taz and May Vids EP in 2016. According to the record label, Good Sad Happy Bad have shuffled their musical duties on the 12-track full-length, with Raisa Khan taking on lead vocals, Levi playing playing guitar and electronics, Marc Pell on drums, and CJ Calderwood contributing vocals, saxophone, and recorder. To coincide with today’s announcement, Good Sad Happy Bad have also sha...
Gorillaz have The Cure for your quarantine blues. For the sixth installment of the Song Machine series, the venerable virtual rockers have announced a new single featuring the Godfather of Goth, Robert Smith. No release date has been set and few details are known. But the band left a few tantalizing bread crumbs on Twitter. They wrote, “Coming up on Song Machine… It’s @RobertSmith.” This was followed by a spaceship emoji, as well as the instructions to “Follow your nearest Song Machine NOW!” That cartoon rocket seems more significant combined with the accompanying promotional pic. It features the cartoon band dressed as astronauts and exploring a rocky orb in space. Looming in the distance is the Earth, and looming close by is Robert Smith, looking like the dark side of the moon ...
Colin Meloy (photo by David Brendan Hall), Raye Zaragoza (photo by Cultivate Consulting), and Laura Veirs Folk artist and protest music songwriter Raye Zaragoza has announced a new album, Woman in Color. Due out October 23rd through Rebel River Records, it’s being previewed today with a single called “They Say”, featuring harmonica from The Decemberists frontman Colin Meloy and banjo arrangements courtesy of veteran folk musician Laura Veirs. A timely number, it finds Zaragoza taking the US government to task for its piss-poor response to the coronavirus crisis. “This song is about the dysfunction of American power structures. It’s about how the systems built to support the people don’t support all people,” she explained in a statement. “Especially during a pandemic, it’s been ex...
