Billionaire Business: Tyler Perry’s Fortune Estimated At $1B

Source: WENN/Avalon / WENN Tyler Perry and his rise to fame is a modern-day rags to riches story for the ages, and he’s given back countless times over to other Black creators such as himself. It was announced this week that Perry’s fortune was estimated at $1 billion, making him one of the most powerful men in show business. In a profile from Forbes, Perry, who turns 51 later this month, invited the publication on the set of his sprawling Tyler Perry Studios set as he directed an episode of the BET series, Sistas this past July in Atlanta. The publication mentions that Perry has earned around $1.4 billion in pretax income since 2005 and has leveraged his savvy to secure a high-profile deal with ViacomCBS that earns him $150 million annually for content development and a stake in the new B...

Pro-Police Facebook Group Calls For Montauk Brewing Company Boycott Over Its Black Lives Matter Support

Source: @MontaukBrewCo / Instagram As America becomes more divided, more tribal and more racist under the watch of the Divider-In-Chief, Donald “Treasonous” Trump, companies supporting either Black Lives Matter or Make America Great Again find themselves subjected to threats, boycotts, and violence depending on your social-political views or simply racist ideology. Earlier this year the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and other innocent Black men and women sparked Black Lives Matter protests all across the country and at the time Montauk Brewing Company stood in solidarity with the protestors by taking to their IG page and letting everyone know that they supported the movement with “all our hearts.” Seems innocent and righteous enough, but now Gothamist is reporting that a new...

RIK EMMETT On Possibility Of New TRIUMPH Music: ‘I Would Never Say Never, But I Would Say It’s Unlikely’

In a brand new interview with Anne Erickson of Audio Ink Radio, guitarist/vocalist Rik Emmett of Canadian rock legends TRIUMPH was asked about the possibility of the band reuniting to play a special one-off show in the future. He said (see video below): “I doubt it. And there’s several reasons. I’m not getting any younger, and I’m not sure I could sustain singing a rock show for 75 minutes, 90 minutes, whatever it would have to be. But the bigger thing is the drummer Gil [Moore]. I mean, he sang a lot of the material too, and drummers, once they get to the other side of 65, they start having back problems and elbow problems, and it’s really difficult for drummers to keep it going. “It’s not like it hasn’t been done,” he continued. ̶...

BRING ME THE HORIZON Teams Up With YUNGBLUD For ‘Obey’ Single

Two-time-Grammy-nominated band BRING ME THE HORIZON has enlisted fellow Brit Yungblud for its new single “Obey”, out now via Columbia Records. The track premiered as Annie Mac‘s “Hottest Record” on her BBC Radio 1 show earlier today. The official video for the single also premiered today. Directed by BRING ME THE HORIZON frontman Oliver Sykes, the visual was shot in London and stars both Oli and Yungblud who battle each other as robots before an unexpected turn of events occurs. “Obey” is a soaring ode about how, as a society, oppression has been so normalized in our DNA that we can’t even see it anymore. Oli says: “We consider ourselves free, but only because the chains are invisible, and we are controlled in ways we don’t even w...

Speaking about how he and his bandmates overcame social distancing in May to record a new version of their song “Blackened”, with each member separated in his own home, frontman James Hetfield said (see video below): “It was one of those things where we were having our weekly ‘TALLICA Zoom sessions and were just talking about, ‘What can we do? Let’s do something. Let’s explore trying to layer something. I’ll send you guys something. I’m not gonna tell you what it ...

Colin Meloy of The Decemberists has shared the new solo song “Slint, Spiderland”. The Decemberists have been in hibernation since 2018, when the band released I’ll Be Your Girl  and the Traveling On EP. Currently, Meloy is writing his fifth book, having published four children’s titles since 2011. But in April, as the reality of quarantine settled in, he had a bizarre experience that caused him to set the prose aside. As Meloy told NPR, he watched a documentary about the making of the Slint album Spiderland, when the normalcy of what he was doing suddenly struck him as bizarre. He said, “I don’t know that it particularly spoke to the current moment in any way other than it felt completely disconnected from it. Thing is about the lockdown and the quarantin...

Touché Amoré Share New Song “I’ll Be Your Host” Ahead of Upcoming Album: Stream

Touché Amoré have shared the latest single, “I’ll Be Your Host”, from their upcoming new album Lament (out October 9th). “I’ll Be Your Host” is another emotional tour de force from the screamo veterans. It follows the pattern of excellence laid out by previous singles, “Deflector” and “Limelight” — tracks that placed Lament firmly among our most anticipated fall metal albums. The track is multidimensionally meta, concerning singer Jeremy Bolm’s meditations on how his lyrics and songs affect listeners. The title, “I’ll Be Your Host”, becomes quite literal, with Bolm grasping how fans might “find catharsis in their own loss while he is still processing and dealing with his grief,” according to the press release. Likewise, he explores how that dynamic affects himself in turn. “‘I’ll Be Y...

While there’s only a few weeks to go until that release date, The Struts have decided to share the record’s title track featuring Robbie Williams now so that fans can bask in the unique timeliness of the tender anthem. Remarkably, Strange Days was created during the coronavirus quarantine. As such, several of the full-length’s 10 songs touch upon what it’s like riding the emotional rollercoaster that is this year. And while “Strange Days” is a bittersweet epic about finding solace in gratitude, the other tracks tread on different themes with different collaborators, including Albert Hammond Jr., Tom Morello, and Joe Elliott and Phil Collen of Def L...
