The stars are aligning for Paul Thomas Anderson. According to The Hollywood Reporter, HAIM singer-songwriter Alana Haim and Cooper Hoffman, son of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, will make their feature debuts in his untitled ’70s coming-of-age film. Together, they join star Bradley Cooper, who was previously attached to the project. Both castings make sense. Anderson has been steadily working with HAIM since 2017’s Something to Tell You. He also has a long history with the Hoffman family, having worked with the late Oscar winner on nearly every one of his directorial efforts. Armin van Buuren first introduced the world to his Rising Star alias over 20 years ago. Since 2015 he’s kept a steady release schedule, typically dropping songs under that moniker once a year. After a successful turn in 2019 with “Cosmos,” van Buuren’s alter ego has arrived in 2020 with a new single called “The Voice.” Trance fans will find everything they need in this traditional track. As the title states, the single is all about the vocals—performed beautifully by Cari—heard previously on van Buuren’s “Stranger Inside.” It features her soaring, angelic voice paired alongside a comforting, steady trance beat and emotive piano chord progression. van Buuren has had an impressive year so far, dropping a stable of hits including R...
Shawn Wasabi has transported his hit single “MEDICINE” into the animated world with new video game-inspired visuals. The result is an adorable journey centered around Toto, Wasabi’s sidekick, a “fearless yet flight-less bird.” It brings the viewers into Wasabi’s mythical land of Mangotale, a fictional island named after his debut album. There we see the duo traverse the destinations featured in the record while on a well-intentioned rescue mission that takes a turn for the worse. The animation was developed during lockdown, when Wasabi impressively taught himself and perfected the art of CGI animation. He then partnered with illustrator Ann Alonso and the creative service Venturia Animation Studios to bring the dream to life. They ev...
Malaa is raising hell with his latest single, a flamethrower of a collaboration with fellow house music maven Koos. The French compatriots have linked up for the aptly titled “Hell,” which spits fire to the tune of a thumping 128 BPM house rhythm. The collaboration, which arrives by way of Tchami‘s Confession banner, features ominous synth work and screamo-inspired vocals before the drop, imbuing a new level of grit to Malaa’s venerated discography. The drop is also signature Malaa with its groovy G-House flair and menacing, relentless basslines. The recruitment of young gun Koos was also a shrewd move, as the blossoming bass house producer has been making serious noise in the scene thanks to his sinister twist on the genre. “Hell” is set to appear on Ma...
The biggest K-pop stars rid this week’s hump day of its usual pressure when BTS and Blackpink dropped two brand new videos Wednesday (Sept. 2). BTS kicked things into high gear, thanks to the boy band’s partnership with South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai, with their “IONIQ: I’m On It” music video. The boys head out in their own lanes and even defy gravity in the sleek scenic visual that feels like anything but a car commercial shoot, according to them. “We had a lot of fun filming this video,” BTS said in a statement. “It’s been a while since a music video style ad has come out like this. It didn’t feel like a commercial shoot. It felt like an actual music video shoot.” Likewise, Blackpink and Selena Gomez‘s latest vis...

An Arizona resident has asked a judge to bar Kanye West from appearing on the state’s Nov. 3 ballot, accusing the hip-hop artist of serving as an election spoiler and arguing that a law prohibits him from running in the state as an independent presidential candidate. West’s lawyer on Wednesday (Sept. 2) reported filing just under 58,000 signatures, well over the roughly 39,000 required for independent candidates to make the ballot. Lawyers for resident Rasean Clayton said in a lawsuit filed Monday that independent presidential candidates can appear on Arizona’s ballot if they aren’t registered with a recognized political party and gather enough voter signatures to nominate them. But Clayton’s lawyers say West, who paid top dollar to dozens of workers gathering petition signatures in Arizon...

The Brooklyn-born artist Ian Isiah has worn many hats throughout his shape-shifting career. On the cover of his latest album Auntie, an arresting recreation of a photograph of Coretta Scott King at Martin Luther King’s funeral in 1968, it was a black pillbox cap adorned with a veil of deep green netting. But on a recent day, his headwear is more protective in nature. “Right now, I’m talking to you, a hair bonnet on and a nightgown on,” he tells MTV News by phone. “I’m a granny. I live by being a granny, not even in age but just my attitude is so granny.” That outlook may seem surprising coming from someone whose work across style and sound has moved the needle forward in each industry he’s touched. As the creative director of the influential fashion collective Hood By Air, Isia...
