Post Malone took some quarantine time to revisit his heavy metal roots in a jam session posted by YouTuber Jared Dines that also featured Dragged Under singer Tony Cappocchi and rapper Tyla Yaweh. In the videos posted by Dines, Posty can be seen reveling in the grind, slashing at his guitar on a pair of grinding metal tunes and helping the group blow through an extreme metal version of Wild Cherry‘s “Play That Funky Music” and a rip of Nirvana‘s “Breed,” with Malone behind the drum kit for those two jams. Malone, who played in metal bands as a teen before pivoting to hip-hop, has proven his rock bona fides over and over, most recently during an all-Nirvana covers COVID-19 fundraiser that raised more than $800,000 in April. Posty and Yaweh teamed up in Ju...
Deanna Brown-Thomas, the daughter of late Godfather of Soul James Brown, will help honor late Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman at a memorial event in South Carolina on Thursday (Sept. 3). Brown-Thomas will speak at a tribute event in Anderson, South Carolina, where she is expected to thank Boseman for his iconic take on her father’s career in the 2014 Brown biopic Get On Up. Boseman, who was born in Anderson, died Friday at his home in Los Angeles, surrounded by his wife and other family members, at the age of 43 after a four-year struggle with colon cancer. The final tweet from the Black Panther star’s account quickly became the most liked tweet of all-time. Thursday’s event, “Honoring the Life of Anderson’s Own Chadwick Bosemsan,̶...
Elvis Presley‘s Graceland mansion in Memphis, Tenn., was tagged with messages supporting Black Lives Matter and defunding the police on Tuesday night (Sept. 1). The graffiti on the iconic landmark was discovered Tuesday morning when employees at the late rock legend’s former home arrived at work to see the messages scrawled across a stone wall outside the mansion. The tags along Elvis Presley Boulevard also featured references to Breonna Taylor and the phrases “No Justice, No Peace,” “Defund MPD” and “F–k Trump,” with similar messages scrawled across the Depression-era Levitt Shell in nearby Overton Park where Presley performed his first paid concert in July 1954, according to the Daily Memphian. The spray-painted words covered over the...
With the remaster of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 set to release on PC, PlayStation and Xbox on Sept. 4, skateboarding fans young and old are preparing to pick up the sticks once again to return to the iconic series. What was once considered a bit of a holy grail when it came to desired remasters — and an unlikely one due to how many songs would need to be licensed to replace the legendary soundtrack — is mere days away from reality after being in the works for years, and it’s no mere high definition re-skin of the 20-year-old classics. Filled with new skateboarders and features, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 is more of a brand new game built around the core of the originals than a cheap glossy makeover (the latter of which already happened once with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD back in 2012)....
Last month, Eels returned with their surprise single “Baby Let’s Make It Real”. It turns out the project’s first track since 2018’s The Deconstruction is actually the A-side to a new 7-inch single. Today, the Mark Oliver Everett-led outfit has unveiled the B-side, “Who You Say You Are”. Like “Baby Let’s Make It Real”, “Who You Say You Are” is a mellow love song. Where the A-side finds E ready to make the jump, however, the B-side finds him a mite bit unsure about his paramour. Over a few wallowing guitar notes, he sings, “Are you who I think you are/ Someone I’ll know for long/ Or someone who doesn’t deserve/ A song.” “Here’s a way to forget your troubles for two minutes and 55 seconds,” E said of “Who You Say You Are”. “Listen to this song and think about my problems instead. You’re welco...
This past May saw Pure X return with their first album in six years. It turns out fans won’t have to wait nearly as long for a follow-up release, as the Austin natives have just announced a new rarities compilation: Rare Ecstasy 2009-2019 is due out October 16th through Fire Talk. The forthcoming project collects 12 “recordings and rarities” from throughout the indie rock group’s decade-long career. Per a press release, these songs “embody the Pure X sound” and offer up “a raw emotive portrait” of the band’s evolution over the years. As a teaser of this Pure X collector’s item, their cover of Willie Nelson’s 1965 song “One Day at a Time” has been revealed. Mirroring the outfit’s past efforts, this rendition conjures up a wall-of-sound atmosphere, as though it were recorded in some smoky ca...
Some people take the high road, but Joe Exotic prefer to go low. The Tiger King star has launched a new underwear line called “Revenge”, and among other perks (?) it allows you to wear his face over your own crotch. The merch is a collaboration with streetwear brand Odaingerous. As TMZ notes, Odaingerous soft-launched “Revenge” in May, and that collection of shirts and hoodies sold out in mere hours. Branded underwear is a new touch, but it makes sense: An undone fly is as synonymous with Joe Exotic as salacious murders and animal abuse. The showstopper of these skeevy skivvies is called the “Financially Recover Cheetah Boxer Brief”. That’s the one that allows you to cover your own majesty with the face of the King. “Revenge” also includes tiger stripe prints in various colors, word patter...

Ever wonder who’s responsible for that iconic AC/DC logo? Or for Angus Young being impaled by his own Gibson SG… or getting violently electrocuted… or sprouting devil horns and tail? Season 2, Episode 3 of “AC/DC Beyond The Thunder” podcast sits down with veteran art director Bob Defrin, the man responsible for helping one of the greatest bands of all time become one of the greatest brands of all time. During the 1970s, Defrin became the “go-to” art director at Atlantic Records with a resume of musicians from Aretha Franklin to Eric Clapton and FOREIGNER. Then along came AC/DC, with a look that was more cartoon than classic. But after listening to this little-known band from Australia, Defrin decided their artwork “has to be like the music. It comes in a...
In a new interview with Full Metal Jackie‘s nationally syndicated radio show, SEVENDUST frontman Lajon Witherspoon, who is African American, was asked how his role as a metal singer can best effect positive change in this time of heightened awareness in America. He responded (hear audio below): “I think today we definitely can see that there’s been a lack of equality in this world that’s being put in the forefront. Luckily, in the industry that I’m in, in the metal community, I feel like that’s definitely something that’s not tolerated, I would like to say, as far as I’ve seen. I feel like this community is incredibly welcoming, and I’ve been very blessed to be in it. I also feel like there’s definitely a lot of people that are hi...
Steve Riley‘s version of L.A. GUNS recently released three singles, “Crawl”, ” Well Oiled Machine” and “Renegades”, from its first album, also titled “Renegades”, which will arrive before the end of the year via Golden Robot Records. Riley‘s version of L.A. GUNS name over the last three years. Riley is joined in his version of the group by Orlando, Florida-based guitarist/vocalist Kurt Frohlich, bassist Kelly Nickels (a member of L.A. GUNS‘ “classic̶...
BLUE ÖYSTER CULT has released the official music video for the song “That Was Me”. The clip, which was directed by Steve Schenck and Richie Castellano, features a cameo appearance from founding BLUE ÖYSTER CULT member Albert Bouchard, playing and singing the parts as he does on the band’s upcoming album, “The Symbol Remains”. “The Symbol Remains” will be released on October 9 via Frontiers Music Srl. Coming nearly two decades after the release of the band’s last studio LP, “Curse Of The Hidden Mirror”, the effort showcases a band which hasn’t been slowed by the time passed but is simply unfazed by it. “The Symbol Remains” is said to be one of BLUE ÖYSTER CULT‘s most spirited, diverse and inspired releases t...
