Ex-DEATH Drummer RICHARD CHRISTY Pays Tribute To QUIET RIOT’s FRANKIE BANALI With ‘Run For Cover’ Play-Along (Video)

Actor, comedian and acclaimed heavy metal drummer Richard Christy has paid tribute to QUIET RIOT‘s Frankie Banali, who died earlier this week after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Christy, who has played with CHARRED WALLS OF THE DAMNED, ICED EARTH, DEATH and CONTROL DENIED, and who currently works for “The Howard Stern Show”, took to his social media on Saturday (August 22) to upload a video of him playing along to the QUIET RIOT classic “Run For Cover”. He wrote in an accompanying caption: “Here’s a drum tribute video to the legend Frankie Banali. I would not be a drummer if it weren’t for Frankie & the Metal Health album. This is the song that made me want to play double bass. Thank You Frankie. RIP @FrankieBanali @QUIETRIOT @EddieTru...

W.A.S.P. Guitarist DOUGLAS BLAIR Performs Acoustic Version Of ‘Wild Child’ With Finland’s ATOMIC ANNIE (Video)

On July 25, Douglas Blair of W.A.S.P. joined the Turku, Finland-based “fuzz rock” quintet ATOMIC ANNIE for an engaging acoustic version of the W.A.S.P. hit “Wild Child”. Blair holstered his Crimson Oath “Borra” custom aluminum Telecaster, and played an uncharacteristic yet effective slide guitar over the well-adapted version. ATOMIC ANNIE is an active member of the Rock Academy‘s Turku branch, in which Blair has been deeply involved in “band coaching” for several years. The franchised city-funded social programs (there are currently six nationwide) include two-year free enrollments for young bands in which they receive close support, recording and live experience, instructional clinics and personal tutoring from pros. Blair states: R...

The first of the series is for “Mother Man”, off ATHEIST‘s second album, “Unquestionable Presence”. Check it out below. From career milestones and new music releases to major announcements and more, Billboard editors highlight the latest news buzz in Latin music every week. Here’s what happened in the Latin music world this week: Jessie Reyez’s peaceful protest Wearing a scarf with Breonna Taylor’s name written on it and taking a kneel, Jessie Reyez bravely sang the Canadian and U.S. national anthems at the top of the CN Tower in Toronto. “I don’t want to say much except a quote that’s reverberated with me throughout the years: ‘do what you can, with what you have, wherever you are,’” Reyez expressed after her performance that kicked off the first game of the NBA Playoffs between the Toronto Raptors and Brooklyn Nets. Four Tet Remixes Tame Impala’s “Is It True”: Stream

In addition to mastering his own original creations, Four Tet knows how to transform a simple remix into something magically refreshing. We’ve heard Kieran Hebden do this for years, reworking everyone from Destiny’s Child and Rihanna to Radiohead and Lana Del Rey. (My personal favorite would be his take on The xx’s “A Violent Noise.) Four Tet has now turned his attention to Tame Impala and The Slow Rush single “Is It True”. Over the course of five minutes, the British producer manages to draw listeners further into Kevin Parker’s world. Here the swirls of psychedelia stretch on a little longer, their pulses slowed down a bit for maximum blissed out daydreaming. Stream Four Tet’s “Is It True” remix down below. Editors’ Picks Four Tet released a new album earlier this year titled ...

The Killers Perform “Blowback” on Colbert: Watch

Today, August 21st, The Killers dropped their new album Imploding the Mirage. That made yesterday Album Release Eve, and the band celebrated with a Late Show performance of the recent single “Blowback”. The twin demands of social distancing and television lighting kept the performers rooted in place. But the Las Vegas rockers have an almost spiritual commitment to putting on a show, and they found plenty of ways to inject drama. The first was singer Brandon Flowers‘ shirt, which came covered in a whole Dollar Store’s worth of rhinestones. The Killers also placed a giant Marquee light shaped like a “K” center stage, rakishly tilted to the side and quietly winking at the cameras. And if the the flashing stage lights didn’t keep your attention, perhaps it’s because you were captured...

Coheed and Cambria Unleash “Jessie’s Girl 2” Featuring Rick Springfield: Stream

Coheed and Cambria have recorded and released a sequel to Rick Springfield’s ubiquitous 1981 hit “Jessie’s Girl”. What’s more, the song and accompanying music video feature Springfield himself. “Jessie’s Girl 2” is not a cover of the ’80s pop hit, but a brand-new song that continues Springfield’s story about losing out on the love of his life to one of his friends. It’s a left-field collaboration from the progressive rock heroes and the veteran pop idol, but Coheed frontman Claudio Sanchez said he was inspired to tell the rest of Springfield’s story. Sanchez stated, “Has anyone ever written a sequel to another artist’s song? I don’t think so. As a fan of movies, it just seemed like a really interesting idea.”  While the song picks up where Springfield’s hit left off, it doesn’t have a...

John Carpenter Confirms Involvement With Blumhouse’s The Thing Reboot

For someone who doesn’t love work, John Carpenter certainly stays busy. On Saturday afternoon, the Master of Horror confirmed a number of projects while speaking with Fantasia Film Festival as he accepted their Lifetime Achievement Award. For starters, Carpenter let it slip that he’s working with Blumhouse and Universal on their forthcoming reboot of The Thing. When pressed if it was a prequel or a sequel, he played it coy and stayed mum as he’s wont to do. As previously reported, that project is reported to be a new reimagining of John W. Campbell Jr.’s Who Goes There?, only Universal and Blumhouse are also planning to pull from its recently unearthed and expanded version of the novella, Frozen Hell. Given that Carpenter is currently working with Blumhouse and Universal on their...

QUEEN Faces ‘Uphill Battle’ Trying To Get TRUMP To Stop Using Band’s Songs On Social Media

QUEEN‘s management has described the band’s attempts to stop Donald Trump from using its music in social media campaigns as an “uphill battle.” Earlier this week, Trump‘s campaign used QUEEN‘s classic song “We Will Rock You” in a video on TikTok competitor Triller. The video has not yet been taken down. A spokesman for QUEEN told BBC News said it has “repeatedly taken issue with the Trump campaign,” adding that “the band itself has been quite outspoken on the subject.” This is not the first time QUEEN and Trump have clashed over his unauthorized use of the band’s music. Last October, QUEEN filed a copyright infringement notice over the unauthorized use of “We Will Rock You” in a another Trump campaign...

The titles are representative to me of what we engage when ...

POISON’s RIKKI ROCKETT On FRANKIE BANALI: He ‘Battled Like A Banshee, But The Beast Was Relentless’

POISON‘s Rikki Rockett has paid tribute to Frankie Banali, who died earlier this week after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Earlier today, Rocket posted an Instagram photo of him with the QUIET RIOT drummer, and he included the following message: “I met Frankie Banali when POISON and QUIET RIOT did a small tour together in 1986. Frankie was by far the coolest rockstar I had ever met at that point. We stayed friends since then. “Frankie was the epitome of being a straight shooter, but a super nice person all at the same time. “When Frankie and [his wife] Regina reached out to me because they knew I went through my own battle, I hooked them up with my Doctors right away. At that time they had no trials outstanding that they they felt was better than the options he wa...
