Reunited San Francisco Bay Area thrashers VIO-LENCE recently released a new digital single, “California Über Alles”, a cover version of the DEAD KENNEDYS classic. The band also filmed a music video for the song with director Scott Kirkeeng. Speaking to Heavy Culture about VIO-LENCE‘s decision to record the DEAD KENNEDYS cover, vocalist Sean Killian said (see video below): “We’ve been writing music. We have our five-song EP with Metal Blade Records that we’ll be putting out next year. But we wanted to do something. Since we have [guitarist] Bobby Gustafson [ex-OVERKILL] in the band and [ex-FEAR FACTORY bassist] Christian Olde Wolbers, we wanted to get together and put something out. And Phil [Demmel, guitar] suggested a DK song, because we were actually g...
DEFTONES have launched a fundraising campaign called “Adopt-A-Dot” where fans can make a charitable donation for one or multiple dots from the thousands of pixelated dots that comprise the cover art — created by Frank Maddocks — of the band’s forthcoming album “Ohms”. All proceeds will benefit the UC Davis Children’s Hospital and Live Nation‘s Crew Nation, a global relief fund for live music crews who have been impacted by COVID-19. Donations can be made at Deftones.com/Adopt. There are 12,995 dots available. Once a donator adopts their dot(s), they have the ability to upload their photo to the site and be a part of the album cover for these two special causes. Maddocks states about the art: “‘Ohms’ album art is an iconic renderin...
RATING: 8/10 Editor’s note: This is a book review JUDAS PRIEST frontman Rob Halford is as beloved offstage as he is on, due in part to how charming his demeanor is during the battery of press interviews that come with every album release and tour. His dry sense of humor is the type that can sometimes be hard to translate to the written word, so who better to make that attempt than the man himself, with help from music journalist Ian Gittins. Whether guiding the reader through the highs and lows of the JUDAS PRIEST machine, or through harrowing struggles with his sexuality and cocaine addiction, Halford‘s ability to let his humble working-class British upbringing and a wisecrack poke through the events depicted in his autobiography, “Confess”, gives an uplifting aura...
Former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer has announced a new solo album. Credited to his Pluralone moniker, it’s called I Don’t Feel Well and due out October 16th. The forthcoming effort serves as the follow-up to his 2019 debut album, To Be One with You, but is his first since being let go by the Peppers earlier this year. According to a statement, the 10-track effort was completed during the pandemic, hence the title’s rather dismal and uncertain tone. “This is a wild time,” Klinghoffer said of the LP. “This album was made during and amongst some very new experiences. I hope it captures some of how it felt during this period. I’ll feel better when this is behind us. As an early look at I Don’t Feel Well, stream reflective lead single “The Night Won’t Scare M...

Famed electronic music producers Hardwell and Chuckie are two of a bevy of Dutch artists to appear in a post by Instagram account @watchdogs.nl that demand “honesty and transparency” regarding the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. A Reddit user translated the post, which also includes a video wherein a number of the listed artists appear. “This can’t go on any longer. We stand for good public health, our economy is at Breaking point, human behavior is being criminalized and what about the future of our Children? We want clarity,” the post reads. “We had to watch the past 6 months how we kept moving backwards instead of forwards. That’s why we demand honesty and transparency.” The statement goes on to question the use of “non-medical ma...
Editor’s Note: This article includes a photo that contains partial nudity, which some readers may find offensive. One day, Diplo is performing ambient music at a stargazing concert. The next, he’s going full nude on Instagram. The Grammy Award-winning DJ and music producer took to Instagram today, September 22nd, to remind his fans to vote in one of the most unorthodox ways you’ll see. Ahead of the impending federal election, Diplo stripped naked on a dock overlooking a pond and snapped a photo before deciding to crystallize it on Instagram for all to bare witness (see what I did there?). Along with the post came a caption reading, “Don’t forget to register to vote.” Whether you call the move genius or crude, there’s no denying that EDM’s ult...
