‘Truth Hurts’ Suit Against Lizzo Dismissed by Judge

Lizzo is most likely feelin’ good as hell after a California federal judge dismissed a lawsuit against her by two songwriters who say they helped create “Truth Hurts.” Lizzo hit first in October 2019, asking the court for a declaration that brothers Justin and Jeremiah Raisen did not co-write her Grammy-winning hit song and therefore aren’t entitled to any of its profits. The songwriters countersued in February, arguing that “Truth Hurts” is a derivative work based on a song called “Healthy” that they created with the artist in early 2017. She maintains the only significant thing to come out of that session was the line “I just did a DNA test turns out I’m a hundred percent that bitch” which was inspired by a viral tweet that anot...

DON DOKKEN Recalls Working For FRANK SINATRA At His Property On Lake Tahoe

In a recent interview with Max Volume of Reno’s classic rock radio station 105.7 KOZZ, Don Dokken recalled what it was like growing up on Tahoe’s North Shore, doing odd jobs for Frank Sinatra at his lakefront home. “[Frank] had a pier, where his boat was, and he had a lot of parties,” Don said. “Lake Tahoe’s water’s crystal clear, but you can walk out on the pier and you can look straight down and see beer bottles and whisky bottles — they were all at the bottom of the lake. And I guess he had — I can’t [say if it’s true] — but that was during the [John F.] Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe days when he’d bring Marilyn up and Kennedy when they were having their affair. So, yeah, he hired me and two of my friends to dive down and pick up ...

STEEL PANTHER’s MICHAEL STARR Says It Was ‘Not Cool’ Of SEBASTIAN BACH To Call Out CHRIS JERICHO

STEEL PANTHER singer Michael Starr is the latest musician to have come to Chris Jericho‘s defense after Sebastian Bach accused FOZZY‘s lead singer of using pre-recorded vocal tracks during live performances. Last month, Jericho challenged Bach to a “singoff” with “no effects, no tuning, no bullshit” in response to Sebastian‘s allegation that Chris “mimes to a tape” during FOZZY‘s live shows. “Bas is a great singer…but I’m better,” Chris wrote on Twitter.” The wrestler-turned-singer added: “I’ve never mimed anything ever! I will fucking sing in your face anytime, anyplace dude. I’ve been a fan & a defender of u since day one…but don’t u ever question my rock abilities!...

The track, which was mixed and mastered by three-time Grammy nominee Luca Pretolesi of Studio DMI (Steve Aoki, Diplo, Lil Jon), features a guest appearance by Cali Tucker, the daughter of country music singer LaCosta Tucker and niece of country music legend Tanya Tucker. Ashba told the Las Vegas Review-Journal about the musicial approach of his new effort: “I would go to a lot of EDM concerts, and their shows are so over the top and, you know, all these young kids just losing their minds, right? And the one thing that I’ve noticed is … it lacks guitar, you know, and I saw an opportunity, like five years ago, going, ‘If...

Jónsi Shares New Single “Cannibal” Featuring Cocteau Twins’ Liz Fraser: Stream

This October marks the arrival of Shiver, the new solo album from Jónsi. His first such effort in 10 years, the album been teased thus far with the songs “Exhale” and “Swill”. Now, a third single, “Cannibal”, is being shared by the Sigur Rós frontman. A collaboration with Liz Fraser of the Cocteau Twins, the track unfurls like an airy, almost dreamlike spell. The Icelandic artist’s otherworldly vocals move in tandem with Fraser’s like swirling smoke, before eventually floating off into the ether. While the ambient moments here recall Jónsi’s work with Sigur Rós, there are also plenty of new sounds welcomed into the fold — namely bright and striking synths courtesy of futurist pop producer and PC Music founder A. G. Cook. “When Sigur Rós was starting, we were always compared ...

Billie Eilish, The Chicks, Maggie Rogers, Stephen Stills, and John Legend are among the artists set to perform at next week’s Democratic National Convention. The mostly virtual event takes place August 17th-20th, airing nightly between 9:00 and 11:00 p.m. ET. Other confirmed musical acts include Leon Bridges, Common, Jennifer Hudson, Billy Porter, and Prince Royce. “In just three days, we will kick off a Democratic National Convention that will look and feel very different than past conventions. It will truly be a convention across America, and these incredible artists will help us tell the story of where we are as a country today under Donald Trump’s failed leadership, and the promise of what we can and should be with Joe Biden as president,” said Stephanie Cutter, 2020 Democrat...

Margo Price Covers Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “WAP” on The Daily Show: Watch

Although Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “WAP” may already be the song of the summer, it’s caused some predictable controversy amongst those with more conservative tastes. Everyone from congressional candidates to Tiger King stars have taken issue with the track, which begs the question: Is this yet another example of women — particularly Black women — facing a different level of public scrutiny? Exploring that thesis on The Daily Show on Thursday night, Margo Price recontextualized “WAP” as a beautiful country song. Would it be any less “offensive”? Price’s cover came as host Trevor Noah and remote correspondent Dulce Sloan examined the media’s sexist reaction to Kamala Harris being selected as presumptive democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s running mate. While arguing that...

Cardi B Endorses Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for President in 2024

Cardi B already has a candidate in mind for the 2024 presidential election. On Friday night (Aug. 14), the “WAP” rapper made a special request on Twitter in response to a fan-posted video on Twitter of New York congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez jamming out to Cardi’s 2017 breakthrough hit “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves).” “She better run for president when she turns 35,” Cardi wrote of the 30-year-old Bronx-born politician, who will be eligible to run for president in 2024. Ocasio-Cortez, a self-described democratic socialist, became the youngest woman ever elected to Congress when she beat out longtime New York politician Joseph Crowley in the 2018 midterm elections. AOC took notice of Cardi’s presidential endorsement on Twitter, responding...

Arashi’s ‘Kite’ Sails to No. 1 on Japan Hot 100

Arashi’s “Kite” soars to No. 1 on this week’s Billboard Japan Hot 100, selling 636,590 copies during the chart week dated July 27 to Aug. 2. The quintet’s 58th single took the top spot by a wide margin after leading physical sales and look-ups, while also coming in at No. 2 for Twitter and No. 26 for radio airplay.  A bit of chart trivia: the super-group’s previous single, “Brave,” debuted at No. 2 on the Japan Hot 100 last September after a close contest against the writer of “Kite” — hitmaker Kenshi Yonezu, who topped that week’s chart with “Uma to Shika.” “Brave” actually sold more CDs than “Kite” with 708,595 copies that week, coming in at No. 1 for sales, No. 2 for look-ups, No. 3 for Twitter, and No. 56 for radio. The weekly total for “Kite” was 39,590, surpassing “Brave,”...
