Chris Lake Drops Elevated Edit of Josement’s “All Night Alone”

House music connoisseur Chris Lake is back with his third release of 2020, an edit of Josement‘s “All Night Alone.” The Black Book Records founder has an ear for discovering underground tracks, which often leads to pure magic. Lake shared that the edit was originally intended for his live sets, but even though that purpose has been put on hold, it has now found new life to brighten up your weekend.  Hearing what the track was originally made for explains the simple, yet poignant adjustments made to the original. He expertly filters the vocals, beefs up the hi-hats, and enhances the production to better suit his hard-hitting live shows. If you close your eyes, it almost feels like you’re there, awkwardly trying to mouth the indiscernible lyrics. The UK prod...

UK’s First Socially Distanced Concert Provides a Look Into the Immediate Future of Live Music

Though the COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating effect on the live music scene due to the cancellation of major tours and global festivals, innovation and adaptation are rapidly taking place in an effort to save the industry.  The UK’s new pop-up venue, Virgin Money Unity Arena, is leading the charge toward building back to normal, recently hosting the nation’s first socially distanced concerts featuring English indie rock artist Sam Fender. The venue has implemented policies every step of the way to ensure crowds remain segmented throughout the experience. Cars were parked two meters apart and each party was guided separately to their seating area. The grounds were populated with 500 raised metal platforms, which hosted groups of up to five individuals. Mask weari...

Tiësto and Vintage Culture’s New Single “Coffee” Is an Instant Energizer

Tiësto and Vintage Culture have just the “pick me up” needed to cruise through late weekend nights with their brand new collaboration “Coffee (Give Me Something).” The new single is fueled by pitched down vocal hooks and bubbling melodies capable of commanding a club dance floor. As the track builds, the vocal hook repeats in an earnest request to “keep me up like coffee” as the song breaks out into a stimulating sequence like a metaphorical “shot in the arm.” It’s the type of offering to bring listeners to their feet as an entrancing set of descending melodic riffs provide the perfect gateway to getting lost in the moment entirely. Falling in a similar creative vein to his recent singles “God Is a Dancer” and R...

10 Times The Rocky Horror Picture Show Crashed Pop Culture

The Rocky Horror Picture Show gets tagged as a “cult” movie whenever it’s mentioned. After 45 years, though, it might be time to retire that adjective when talking about Richard O’Brien’s science-fiction rock ‘n’ roll parody turned ultimate midnight movie. While it may not be everyone’s cup of fishnets, when Fox broadcasts a remake in prime time and programs from The Simpsons to Sesame Street have dropped allusions to Brad (“Asshole!”) and Janet’s (“Slut!”) salacious sleepover at Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s castle, it’s safe to say that Rocky has officially gone mainstream. If you still haven’t popped your cherry (“Virgin!”), be sure to grab your fishnets, tighty-whities, or six-inch high heels, and celebrate 45 years of absolute pleasure by checking out these 10 times The Rocky Horror Picture Sh...

North Kingsley (System of a Down’s Shavo Odadjian) Unveil Vol. 1 EP: Stream

Last week, System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian’s new band North Kingsley unleashed their debut single, “Like That?”. Now, they’ve released the full three-song collection Vol. 1, along with a video for the track “Die for the Pic”. The trio is rounded out by vocalist Ray Hawthorne and producer Saro Paparian, with Hawthorne delivering biting commentary on social media trends in the song “Die for the Pic”. “Die for the Pic is a statement on modern hypocrisy,” explained Hawthorne. “The masses are tending to follow popular trends without taking the time to analyze what’s actually going on. People often agree with whatever they are told the correct way to think is, and then post about it online, in an effort to be perceived well by their peers. In my experience, most of these people don’t eve...
