“We care about our neighbors, and that’s why we want to help.” New York native and acting legend Robert De Niro kicked off Robin Hood and iHeartMedia’s Rise Up New York! telethon on Monday (May 11) with that simple reasoning about why the benefit show was happening. Since the coronavirus began spreading across the nation earlier this year, New York City has been the hardest hit, becoming the epicenter of the pandemic with more than 26,000 deaths to date and too many jobs lost. The telethon, hosted by Tina Fey from 30 Rockefeller Plaza, featured numerous famous faces with New York ties, from musicians to Broadway stars to chefs and beyond. Each offered messages of hope and urged viewers to donate to help the people of New York get back on their feet after the devasta...
Joanna Serenko has had a tough journey on The Voice, most recently escaping elimination last week as the instant-save contestant. Now, in the semifinals and on Team Blake, the 19-year-old stepped up to plate with a performance of the late Bill Withers‘ classic, “Lean on Me.” Like last week, to follow precautions amid the coronavirus pandemic, Serenko performed the tune at home. The scenery fit perfectly with the loving, supportive tone of the song, as the singer was surrounded by lush woodlands and bohemian furniture. After former coach Nick Jonas told Serenko that he “totally believes in the artist that [she] is,” Blake Shelton couldn’t help but dig the knife of losing such a talented contestant a little deeper. “Nick I hate to be such a stic...
Hayley Williams is out front in the race to the U.K. chart title. The Paramore frontwoman’s debut solo album Petals For Armor (Atlantic) leads the midweek chart, with an advantage of 1,100 chart sales over its nearest rival, D-Day Darlings’ I’ll Remember You (Sony Music CG), according to the Official Charts Company. Williams has tasted the high life on two previous occasions with her alternative rock outfit, bagging No. 1 with Brand New Eyes in 2009 and with Paramore’s self-titled 2013 set. Petals For Armor was the best-selling album in the U.K. on CD and vinyl over the weekend, the OCC reports. The most downloaded album at the midweek stage is I’ll Remember You, the debut LP from the Britain’s Got Talent alum D-Day Darlings. The set originally dropped in November 2018, peaking at No....
Justin Vernon’s Bon Iver is throwing its support behind COVID-19 relief efforts with “PDLIF (Please Don’t Live in Fear),” which premiered Monday (May 11) on the Direct Relief website. “PDLIF” was cut in self-isolation and “serves as a subtle reminder that, though apart, we’re never alone; the importance of collaboration and community remains as strong as ever,” a statement from the band reads. The chilled-out Bon Iver release marks the first time a music video has premiered on the site for Direct Relief, a humanitarian aid organization that’s working to protect workers and patients and is active in all 50 U.S. states and more than 80 countries. The Grammy-winning indie outfit is donating 100% of all proceeds of the track to Direct Relief‘s COVID-19 response. Like every other to...
Elon Musk has resumed production at his Tesla factory in Fremont, California, defying local shelter-in-place orders to slow the spread of COVID-19. “I will be on the line with everyone else,” he tweeted today. “If anyone is arrested, I ask that it only be me.” The Tesla CEO and new father seems hell-bent on making electric cars for people right now, as if those who could afford a Tesla in the first place are unable to wait a few months to purchase one. Apparently his Fremont factory is packed to the gills like a normal work day, reports NPR, because photos of its company parking lot show each spot filled. “California approved, but an unelected county official illegally overrode,” Musk tweeted. “Also, all other auto companies in US are approved to resume. Only Tesla has been singled out. Th...
Bryan Adams was supposed to kick off a residency at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Monday, but because of the coronavirus, those dates have been delayed indifferently. The “Summer of ’69” songwriter and devout vegan isn’t holding back on who he blames for the crisis. “Thanks to some fucking bat eating, wet market animal selling, virus making greedy bastards, the whole world is now on hold,” Adams wrote in an Instagram post on Monday night. “My message to them other than ‘thanks a fucking lot’ is go vegan.” While other musicians such as Paul McCartney have expressed similar sentiments regarding China’s wet markets, Adams’ tone and word choice has led some to accuse him of racism and xenophobia. It is worth noting that there is no conclusive evidence that COVID-19 originated from a wet market...
Source: Bernard Smalls / @PhotosByBeanz After holding the title of most viewers in a live with his ultra hype Quarantine Radio, Tory Lanez‘s viewership record was annihilated by self-proclaimed “King of the Rats” Tekashi 6ix9ine. On Friday (May 8), notorious informant Tekashi 6ix9ine made his return to the music scene by dropping his first post-prison single, “GOOBA,” with visuals. Despite his criminal status, 6ix9ine’s music video reportedly beat a Youtube record previously set by Eminem in 2018, by amassing more than 98 million views in two days. As if fans couldn’t be more obsessed, 6ix9ine also conducted a record-breaking Instagram live session that same day after racking up a whopping 2 million viewers at one point, demolishing the record Tory set last month with 300K during Drake‘s a...
Source: NEW YORK, NY – AUGUST 29: Retired boxing champion Mike Tyson attends the 2016 US Open Opening Night held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on August 29, 2016 in New York City. (Photo by Brent N. Clarke/Getty Images) As Mike Tyson continues to train it is no surprise some of his fiercest competitors are in the rumor mill as possible contenders. One of his fiercest opponents is now considering the opportunity. As spotted on TMZ the Brooklyn native is actively sparing in effort to sharpen his boxing skills back up. So much so that he has a serious itch to return to the squared circle. Last week Iron Mike shared a brief clip on his Instagram that proved that he is far from a slouch. The visuals show him throwing punches at a fast speed and from the looks of his c...
Last week we got some long awaited work from Yonker’s finest trio, The LOX, and while we love what the three-man group provides when together, we’re not opposed to anyone of them going solo for a minute either. Such is the case today as Styles P comes through with some visuals for his own cut “Time” in which he highlights his hood by the hill and reminds viewers of the struggle he came from that molded him into the G he is today. Moneybagg Yo meanwhile seems to be enjoying the fruits of his labor as he flaunts bricks of cash in the driver side of his drop top for his clip to “Me Vs Me.” Wearing gloves while handling all that paper. Smart and responsible thinking, b. Check out the rest of today’s drops and some joints you might’ve missed over the weekend including work from Yella Beezy and ...
Snoop Dogg and Meek Mill have both called out the media for their coverage of Tekashi 6ix9ine following his comeback single, “GOOBA”. The two vented their frustrations on Instagram, with Snoop going as far to say, “Fuck Tekashi 6ix9ine… Feel me on this, and if u don’t fuck u 2.” Tekashi 6ix9ine got a lot of attention for his new song — it racked up over 36 million views in less than 24 hours on YouTube — and part of that praise was coming from music writers and influencers alike. Snoop Dogg and Meek Mill had enough when they saw Elliott Wilson, Rap Radar founder and a longtime hip-hop journalist, share the cover art for “GOOBA” in his Instagram Stories, notes HipHopDX. Snoop Dogg has been a vocal critic of Tekashi 6ix9ine for a while, so it’s no surprise he was angry to see the felon ...
Tomorrow was supposed to mark the first day of the 2020 Cannes Film Festival. However, back in March, the event was postponed in light of the coronavirus, with plans to stage the cinematic celebration in July. Now, though, festival director Thierry Frémaux has told Screen Daily that the 73rd annual Cannes Film Festival has officially been canceled altogether. Frémaux and the Cannes team seem to have come to a conclusion that’s becoming increasingly evident around the entertainment industry: hosting major events in 2020 appears to be impracticable. “Under the circumstances, a physical edition of Cannes 2020 is hard to envisage, so we’ll have to do something different,” Frémaux said. “A ‘festival’ is a collective party, a spectacle that brings together an audience in a given location, in thi...
A decidedly not-in-“Heaven” Bryan Adams took to Instagram tonight to condemn *puts on glasses* “fucking bat eating, wet market animal selling, virus making greedy bastards” for the cancellation of his intended Royal Albert Hall shows in London this week so that “the whole world now is on hold.” That certainly cuts like… some kind of sharp object. But wait, there’s more: “My message to them other than ‘thanks a fucking lot’ is go vegan.” These are decidedly not the best days of Adams’ life. Read the entire post below and either give this man an “amen” or enjoy your dinner of bratwurst.
