JEFF SCOTT SOTO: ‘You Don’t Really Work With YNGWIE; You Work For YNGWIE’

Jeff Scott Soto says that he left Yngwie Malmsteen‘s band more than three decades ago because he realized “you don’t really work with Yngwie; you work for Yngwie.” Soto, who sang on Yngwie‘s first two albums, 1984’s “Rising Force” and 1985’s “Marching Out”, discussed his relationship with the legendary Swedish guitarist during a recent interview with “That Metal Interview With James”. Asked if Malmsteen was “difficult to work with,” Soto said: “One thing I had to learn early on is you don’t really work with Yngwie; you work for Yngwie. And this is one of the reasons why I left early on. “I’m so used to working with people — we craft, we build, we formulate together. And I reali...

Hard to Stop – HIGH SPIRITS

RATING: 8/10 Professor Black has carved out his niche in the metal scene by paying tribute to the warmer and catchier sounds of the ’70s and ’80s. Black slings science-fiction prog with AKTOR, melodic thrash with DAWNBRINGER, and under his own name, has paid tribute to the sounds of BATHORY and MOTÖRHEAD. Everything Black attaches his name to is sheer heavy metal comfort food, no projects more so than HIGH SPIRITS. The most beloved of Black‘s efforts, this project revels in the riff book of bands that would have been on the heavier end of MTV‘s playlist, pre-hair metal explosion. Black‘s collections of riffs stand out from others trolling around in the same landscape thanks to an extremely positive energy which propels the power behind the anthems. HIGH SPIRIT...

WarnerMedia Is Investigating the “Toxic Work Environment” at Ellen DeGeneres Show

WarnerMedia has launched an investigation into allegations of misconduct and an environment of fear on the set of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Via The Hollywood Reporter, the news comes 11 days after a Buzzfeed report in which ten former and one current employee described a “toxic work environment.” Rumors of verbal abuse, retribution, and racism have dogged Ellen for years. But the stories reported by Buzzfeed are still disquieting, involving little tolerance for family emergencies, inconsistently enforced rules, and attempts to silence workers who expressed concerns. One woman took medical leave after a suicide attempt, and when she returned, her position was eliminated. A Black woman who objected to the term “spirit animal” was labeled “the PC police,” and later re...

Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Jim Carrey Team Up for Intimate, Socially-Distant Standup Show

A few lucky people in Ohio got quite the treat when comedy legends Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, and Jim Carrey (or at least, his face) appeared for a special standup performance. It happened as part of the ongoing summer series “Dave Chappelle & Friends: A Talk with Punchlines”. The outdoor events are invite-only, socially distanced, and limited to about 100 people. The privacy of the shows has been part of their charm, and little has leaked in the way of photos or clips. It was Rock who broke the embargo, sharing two pictures from the secretive event on Instagram earlier today. One shows him dapping elbows with Chappelle in front of a plane. The other catches Carrey’s wide smile on FaceTime, as Chappelle holds a mic up to the cellphone. According to Rock, “Jim closed the show.” He said...

K-Pop Sensations BLACKPINK Officially Announce Debut Studio Album

Over the last four years, the K-Pop group BLACKPINK has been gathering momentum like a tidal wave just offshore. With the release of “How You Like That” last month, they suddenly rose above the world’s shores, blotted out the sun, and obliterated streaming records to the tune of 82 million views in 24 hours. Now, at long last, they’ve announced their debut studio album, and it’s coming October 2nd. Together Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa released a self-titled Japanese EP in 2017, and the Korean-language Square Up the following year. These were repackaged into the compilation album BLACKPINK IN YOUR AREA in 2018, and that project’s startling success allowed their label YG Entertainment to strike a bold new deal with Interscope. Suddenly, the quartet were global. They celebrated by rele...

NBA Partnering With Microsoft To Bring Fans Into The Bubble Virtually

Source: Miami Herald / Getty The NBA is set to officially restart it on Thursday (Jul.30), and if you have been watching the tune-up games, it’s a bit weird without fans. The league is looking to tackle that issue by partnering with Microsoft. Let’s face it, while we are happy to have sports back, it’s just not the same without fans in the arenas and stadiums cheering on their favorite teams due to COVID-19. The NBA is looking to somewhat remedy that situation by teaming up with Microsoft and using the tech company’s Microsoft Teams to project more than 300 fans into the National Basketball Association’s bubble arena. The invited fans will appear on 17-foot video screens and will be able to interact with each other during the games. The goal is to give them the feeling of sitting next to e...

Source: Jim Bennett / Getty With the release of No Pressure, Logic says he’s officially hanging up the mic in order to become Big Daddy Daycare for his baby boy and while Joe Budden is elated that the white rapper is departing the game, his fans feel a ways about the move. Still, Logic is going to push his latest album as much as possible (babies are expensive) and today comes through with his visuals for “DadBod” which features the new father spending time with his seed while enjoying the fruits of his labor in his million-dollar home. Y’all know he coming back sooner or later. DaBaby meanwhile continues to ride his momentum and in his latest Stunna 4 Vegas-assisted clip to “No Dribble” turns up from the club to the streets where he puts some creases on a pair of Chunky Dunky Nikes.
