In addition to mastering his own original creations, Four Tet knows how to transform a simple remix into something magically refreshing. We’ve heard Kieran Hebden do this for years, reworking everyone from Destiny’s Child and Rihanna to Radiohead and Lana Del Rey. (My personal favorite would be his take on The xx’s “A Violent Noise.) Four Tet has now turned his attention to Tame Impala and The Slow Rush single “Is It True”. Over the course of five minutes, the British producer manages to draw listeners further into Kevin Parker’s world. Here the swirls of psychedelia stretch on a little longer, their pulses slowed down a bit for maximum blissed out daydreaming. Stream Four Tet’s “Is It True” remix down below. Editors’ Picks Four Tet released a new album earlier this year titled ...
Today, August 21st, The Killers dropped their new album Imploding the Mirage. That made yesterday Album Release Eve, and the band celebrated with a Late Show performance of the recent single “Blowback”. The twin demands of social distancing and television lighting kept the performers rooted in place. But the Las Vegas rockers have an almost spiritual commitment to putting on a show, and they found plenty of ways to inject drama. The first was singer Brandon Flowers‘ shirt, which came covered in a whole Dollar Store’s worth of rhinestones. The Killers also placed a giant Marquee light shaped like a “K” center stage, rakishly tilted to the side and quietly winking at the cameras. And if the the flashing stage lights didn’t keep your attention, perhaps it’s because you were captured...
For someone who doesn’t love work, John Carpenter certainly stays busy. On Saturday afternoon, the Master of Horror confirmed a number of projects while speaking with Fantasia Film Festival as he accepted their Lifetime Achievement Award. For starters, Carpenter let it slip that he’s working with Blumhouse and Universal on their forthcoming reboot of The Thing. When pressed if it was a prequel or a sequel, he played it coy and stayed mum as he’s wont to do. As previously reported, that project is reported to be a new reimagining of John W. Campbell Jr.’s Who Goes There?, only Universal and Blumhouse are also planning to pull from its recently unearthed and expanded version of the novella, Frozen Hell. Given that Carpenter is currently working with Blumhouse and Universal on their...
QUEEN‘s management has described the band’s attempts to stop Donald Trump from using its music in social media campaigns as an “uphill battle.” Earlier this week, Trump‘s campaign used QUEEN‘s classic song “We Will Rock You” in a video on TikTok competitor Triller. The video has not yet been taken down. A spokesman for QUEEN told BBC News said it has “repeatedly taken issue with the Trump campaign,” adding that “the band itself has been quite outspoken on the subject.” This is not the first time QUEEN and Trump have clashed over his unauthorized use of the band’s music. Last October, QUEEN filed a copyright infringement notice over the unauthorized use of “We Will Rock You” in a another Trump campaign...

Legendary SMASHING PUMPKINS drummer Jimmy Chamberlin teams up with bassist/producer Billy Mohler and guitarist Sean Wollstenhulme for “Honor”, while also featuring Frank Catalano and KNEEBODY members Adam Benjamin, Ben Wendell and Shane Endsley. Forbes premiered the first single, “Humility”, praising how it “builds in intensity, a pummeling drum solo paired with fevered sax to close the song in a beautiful cacophony of sound.” On the track and inspiration behind the album, Chamberlin exclusively told Talkhouse in an interview: “The record is just kind of a document of a moment in time. The titles are representative to me of what we engage when ...
POISON‘s Rikki Rockett has paid tribute to Frankie Banali, who died earlier this week after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Earlier today, Rocket posted an Instagram photo of him with the QUIET RIOT drummer, and he included the following message: “I met Frankie Banali when POISON and QUIET RIOT did a small tour together in 1986. Frankie was by far the coolest rockstar I had ever met at that point. We stayed friends since then. “Frankie was the epitome of being a straight shooter, but a super nice person all at the same time. “When Frankie and [his wife] Regina reached out to me because they knew I went through my own battle, I hooked them up with my Doctors right away. At that time they had no trials outstanding that they they felt was better than the options he wa...

The Canadian-born musician, who has lived in Dallas, Texas, for the past decade, exhibited “severe symptoms” of the novel coronavirus before it was confirmed he had COVID-19. The Montreal-based band wrote: “We regret to inform everyone that our guitarist and founding member J-F Dagenais has tested positive for COVID 19 after experiencing severe symptoms, we will give you an update on his condition during the next few days. #Kataklysm #Jfdagenais” The Dallas County Health Department has reported 68,572 cases of the virus since testing began in March. Here are the most significant announcements. DC fans didn’t mind being stuck in the house on a Saturday due to the all of the epic reveals that went down during the DC FanDome. The event will span over two days, August 22, and September 12. Today, all of the virtual action took place in the Hall of Heroes, and, of course, the ladies kicked things off first. Wonder Woman: 1984 Source: Warner Bros. / Warner Bros. Spin’s “Kat Calls” is live now with a special interview and Q&A session featuring two of dance music’s biggest contributors, Carl Cox and deadmau5. Right now, “Kat Calls” host Kat Bein has the two dance music tastemakers on the line for a virtual discussion on music, the industry at large, and more. It’s a landmark episode for the burgeoning dance music-focused talk show, which began in April of this year. Carl Cox and deadmau5’s worlds recently collided when Cox was approached with an opportunity to remix deadmau5 and The Neptunes‘ collaboration “Pomegranate.” The tenured producer outfitted the twangy nu-disco original with an instrument stack fit for the club, dialing up the tempo to 128 BPM and add...
James Gunn has shared the first teaser trailer for The Suicide Squad and revealed new characters from the star-studded cast. The unveiling took place during DC’s virtual FanDome on Saturday. Gunn himself hosted a panel, and with a bit of pomp and ceremony he announced the villainous roles played by previously-announced actors. The big news is that Idris Elba will be inhabiting Bloodsport, a Lex Luthor associate. During a Q&A/trivia section, it was also revealed that Bloodsport in the film is spending time in jail for shooting Superman. This is the biggest plot drop from the panel, and it’s actually pulled right from the comic books. As for the rest of the Squad, a large part of it was already known, with Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) Captain Boomerang (...
Fans begged, pleaded, and campaigned for this, and now it’s finally here: Zack Snyder has shared the first full trailer for the Justice League Director’s Cut at Saturday’s DC Fandome virtual event. From the jump, the preview makes it clear this is very different from 2018’s Joss Whedon-re-worked theatrical Justice League. It opens with a shot of the DC Extended Universe’s biggest baddie, Darkseid, played by Ray Porter but ultimately excised from the original cut of the film. There’s also new glimpses of the film’s primary antagonist, Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds), whose look has been updated as more metallic and with a less humanoid face, like he was seen in the infamous Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice deleted scene. What really stands out here is how much more fleshed out the non-Batman-a...
