Dirtybird Postpones CampINN Due to COVID-19 Concerns, Announces Rescheduled 2021 Dates
Dirtybird‘s forthcoming CampINN festival in Orlando, Florida is the latest to feel the unrelenting wrath of COVID-19, which continues to stomp on the daisies of the live music industry. The venerated house music label announced the event back in January 2020. Dirtybird representatives took to Twitter to share the news. “There was absolutely nothing we wanted more than to reunite in Florida with you,” they wrote before divulging the fest’s rescheduled dates. “We are sad to announce that we are postponing [CampINN] until May 14-17, 2021. Canceled Virgin Fest Sues WME, Demands Agency Return $6M Artist Deposits
Virgin Fest is suing talent agency William Morris Endeavor Entertainment for failing to return artist deposits paid in advance of the now-canceled June 6-7 event in Los Angeles. The deposits totaled $6 million for performers Lizzo, Ellie Goulding, Kali Uchis and others to reserve their availability for the inaugural festival in Los Angeles’ Exposition Park, which was scrapped in May due to the coronavirus pandemic. The contract Virgin Fest signed with WME included a force majeure provision that outlined that the money would have to be returned in the if any “act beyond the reasonable control of the producer, which makes the performance impossible, unfeasible or unsafe,” according to court documents filed Friday and reviewed by Billboard. Mitch Slater, Concert Promotion Pioneer, Dies at 59
The Delsener/Slater Presents co-founder was a longtime associate of concert business consolidator Robert Sillerman. Mitch Slater, an industry pioneer who helped shape the modern concert promotion business, died on Tuesday after an extended illness. Joan Baez to Receive 2020 Woody Guthrie Prize
Joan Baez is this year’s recipient of the Woody Guthrie Prize, in recognition of her “groundbreaking career and impact on humanitarian causes.” The legendary folk singer, activist and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will be inducted Aug. 16 during a virtual edition of the Philadelphia Folk Festival. The prize was established in 2014 and is given each year to an artist who best exemplifies the spirit and life work of Woody Guthrie by speaking for the less fortunate and serving as a positive force for social change. Floating Movie Theaters Coming to New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and More US Cities
Parisians were treated to a floating movie theater adventure this past weekend. Apparently it went swimmingly because now a different company, Beyond Cinema, is bringing a similar idea to America. Starting this September, Beyond Cinema will launch 12 to 24 mini boats — each of which can hold upwards of eight people — in US cities. Movies will be projected on a large screen outdoors near the water, and patrons can pay to watch the film in comfort from one of the floating vessels. The Australian entertainment and event company originally found success with their “boat-in” events back during pre-COVID times.
