It’s also a digital EP. There’s a good chance you weren’t one of the lucky few to see Mariah Carey perform at New York’s Club Tatou back in 1990 when the new kid on the block wowed the crowd. And even though time has no meaning in MC world, the singer is celebrating three decades of hit-making this year under the #MC30 tag, beginning with a new EP dedicated to one of her very first live performances from that night. “We don’t acknowledge numbers, but we do acknowledge when it’s time for a celebratory moment!” Carey tweeted on Friday morning (July 17). Accompanying the tweet is archival footage of Mariah explaining how a 1970 R&B classic ended up in one of her early showcase shows featuring just her voice, a piano and background singers. &...
Piano men gotta piano, right? In a world gone mad, there are a few things you can count on, and Billy Joel tickling the ivories is definitely one of them. In a viral video shot last month, Joel, 71, is seen stopping to play a tune on a sidewalk keyboard in Huntington, Long Island, zipping of an impromptu version of Shelton Brooks’ 1917 ragtime roll “Darktown Strutters’ Ball.” Wearing a black jacket and pants and sporting a motorcycle helmet, Joel opines, “Not bad, the action is good… Just needs tuning, and the finish is beat. It’s a perfectly good piano.” Tinkling the high end of the instrument the singer adds, “It’s a shame to throw it out,” before suggesting someone should donate it to St. Vincent de Paul. He also check ou...
With the COVID-19 pandemic stopping concerts, festivals and any other public gathering, musicians have had to get creative with how they make new videos. The National’s Matt Berninger took this into account while filming his new video for “Distant Axis.” The video shows him walking to a makeshift set to film the visual with his brother and co-director Tom Berninger and Chris Sgroi. With a huge sheet of a green screen on the ground, Berninger sits in a swivel chair spinning around and rolling on the ground as random objects — including wigs, a Magic 8-Ball and a Hillary Clinton doll — are thrown at him. “Distant Axis” was a collaboration between Berninger and Walter Martin of The Walkmen. The two also worked on “Quarantine Boogie (Loco),” which dropped in April. “I met Walter Martin fifteen...
With everyone sequestered and self-quarantining due to the coronavirus, we’ve asked our favorite artists to come up with playlists that keep you entertained. Here is singer-songwriter, producer, rapper, comedian and filmmaker Oliver Tree: These are some of the rock bands who inspired my debut album “Ugly is Beautiful.” Rock music feels dead in 2020 but for some reason, I felt compelled to make a rock album when absolutely nobody asked for it. Sure my album has a lot of other influences like pop, hip hop and electronic but the album as a whole is a straight forward alternative rock album. To be releasing this music at this time, I can’t help but feel like an outcast from any music scene and any community. When I was in middle school I used to be obsessed with classic rock and managed t...
Source: Buzzfeed / Tasty Every year we are reminded that all that glitters isn’t gold. One of the hottest Rap acts in the world is now screaming foul. As spotted on Variety Migos are now claiming they were cheated out of millions of dollars. According to the legal documents they are suing their former lawyer Damien Granderson saying he “abused his position of trust as Migos’ fiduciary from the moment he was retained as Migos’ lawyer” and “cheated [them] out of millions of dollars”. The trio accuses the attorney of getting them wrapped up in a bad 360 deal with 300 Entertainment; so bad they had to pay the label millions to get out of the faulty contract. Additionally Quavo, Offset and Takeoff allege that Granderson concealed important facts regarding Quality Control Music’s distributi...

Source: ANDREW CABALLERO-REYNOLDS / Getty In a move that makes all the sense in the world right now, big retailers will now require customers to wear masks. Kicking off things off, Walmart said in a blog post would start enforcing a new rule requiring patrons to wear face masks beginning Monday (Jul.20). Per Walmart: “As the number of confirmed cases has spiked in communities across the country recently, so too have the number and types of face-covering mandates being implemented. Currently, about 65 percent of our more than 5,000 stores and clubs are located in areas where there is some form of government mandate on face coverings. To help bring consistency across stores and clubs, we will require all shoppers to wear a face-covering starting Monday, July 20. This will give us time to inf...
Detroit-based house duo Golf Clap took to Instagram today to announce they are parting ways after nearly ten years of working together. “The constant transitions of life will always present the most poignant forks in the road, for which we have to pick a direction, commit to it, and move forward from there,” wrote Golf Clap’s Hugh Cleal. “After nearly 10 years together as Golf Clap, Bryan Jones and myself (Hugh Cleal) are parting ways,” he continued. “Creativity is what brought us together, and it is that same creativity that will keep us going long after this fork in the road.” Cleal went on to explain that the split is completely amicable and he will continue to operate the Golf Clap project on his own while Jones pursues a new musical alias...
Following allegations of sexual assault and rape against multiple women, electronic music producer and DJ Billy Kenny was recently removed from Shambhala Music Festival‘s virtual edition, “Shambhala At Home.” The July 13th announcement of Kenny’s expulsion prompted an official response from the DJ, who took to social media to address the accusations before eradicating his Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts days later. Before the deletion of Kenny’s statement, Your EDM published an excerpt. “For clarity, it is alleged that on June 23rd, 2017 at a show in Edmonton, I played a trick on a woman who was on stage during my performance, where I pretended to drop my USB stick and then grabbed her behind inappropriately,” Kenny wrote. “My ...
Back in May, Marshmello joined forces with Adobe and Live Nation to launch a fan video editing challenge, inviting creators to develop a short that demonstrates how they are fostering kindness in a world that desperately needs it right now amidst the unrelenting COVID-19 pandemic. Almost two months after inviting fans to “show how they’re bringing kindness to the world,” Marshmello has delivered some kindness of his own in the form of a colossal cash prize to the contest’s winner. Julian Curi‘s wallet is flexing thanks to his heartwarming video. Curi’s entry netted him a cool $10,000 cash prize as well as a virtual meet-and-greet with the masked electronic music superstar later this year. In a congratulatory tweet, Marshmello said he “can’t wait to l...
Lido is one of the most impressive producers out there that you might have never heard of. But with the release of the Norwegian artist’s latest single, “Rise,” from the artist’s upcoming studio album PEDER, Lido is looking to change that. Released today via Because Music, “Rise” is the third single from the forthcoming PEDER, stylized after the artist’s first name and out September 18th. It follows “Postclubridehomemusic” and “How To Do Nothing” and came alongside its own original music video, also released today. Vaguely indie pop and rooted in electronic influences, “Rise” easily falls right in line with its two predecessors. They each feature the Norwegian producer’s own voice, as ...
Grammy-winning and Emmy-nominated songwriter-producer Desmond Child, who is widely recognized as one of music’s most accomplished hitmakers, has revealed that he is working on new music with legendary rocker Alice Cooper. This past Wednesday (July 15), Desmond took to his social media to write: “SCHOOL’S OUT FOR THE SUMMER! Alice Cooper and I are cooking up a ginormous, poisonous anthemic masterpiece for next year. So exciting to work with the rock genius & visionary Alice Cooper again. Remember our album TRASH? Listen to it from start to finish now.
