Captain Marvel just might be the biggest Ariana Grande stan in Hollywood. Last year, Brie Larson covered “My Everything” and “God Is a Woman”. Now, she’s back with a new spin on another Grande classic: “Be Alright”. The breakout single from Grande’s 2016 album Dangerous Woman is light and catchy, and Larson upholds those qualities while giving it a stripped-down sheen. Armed with her own guitar and the quiet background of her peaceful home, the actress nails each note and vocal scale, proving once again that she’s just as good at singing as she is at acting. Watch her cover below. It’s not just a coincidence that Larson semi-regularly shares cover songs on social media and totally nails them. Back in 2005, before she was an A-list movie star, she dropped an album called Finally Out of...

From career milestones and new music releases to major announcements and more, Billboard editors highlight the latest news buzz in Latin music every week. Here’s what happened in the Latin music world this week: “Michael X” Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, the Puerto Rican rapper turns his feelings into song rapping about racism and police brutality. In his new song “Michael X,” Myke Towers raps about slavery and having dealt with discrimination himself. Towers kicks off the track with words from Malcolm X’s famous 1962 speech: “We are oppressed. We are exploited. We are downtrodden.” He then goes on saying he needs to speak out against racism and can no longer hide how he’s feeling. The song drops amid natio...
Kanye West could be one step closer to launching his own music streaming service. The 43-year-old rapper and fashion mogul, who recently announced his plans to run for president in 2020, took to Twitter on Friday night (July 10) to share the “roster proposal” for Yeezy Sound, a company he filed trademark papers for in 2017. “YEEZY SOUND ROSTER PROPOSAL,” West captioned a handwritten note featuring a list of artists, including hip-hop duo Abstract Mindstate, G.O.O.D. Music’s CyHi The Prynce, himself, jazz drummer Tony Williams and Clipse. The mysterious list also included the name “KC” — possibly a reference to Jodeci singer K-Ci — and Kanye’s 7-year-old daughter, North West. As previously reported, West’s trademark for ̶...

Harlem-based producer Crystal Caines has always been the master of her own fate. Raised in a musical household by Guyanese parents, she began making her own music around 16 years old. She started out just wanting to sing, then began to rap, but wasn’t getting the sound she wanted from producers she knew, so she started to make her own beats. A friend gave her a keyboard and she taught herself how to record, mix and produce. “From then on it was a blessing for me to be able to take what I felt here and put it on wax.” Caines released her first single, “Whiteline,” in 2014 and went on to collaborate with A$AP Ferg, MIA and Baauer. Inspired by everyone from Trackmasters to the Neptunes, she crafted a sound thick with 808s and sample-based melodies driven by closed hi-hats. “Everything gotta h...
Source: Claudio Lavenia / Getty That took entirely too long. Five people have been arrested over the death of beloved Brooklyn rapper Pop Smoke. Today (July 9), the Los Angeles Police Department announced that three adult males and two juveniles got pinched for the February 19 murder of Pop Smoke. Born Bashar Jackson, he was staying in a Hollywood Hills home where he was the victim of a home invasion. In security footage of the incident, four men are described as creeping up on the Hollywood Hills crib of the “Dior” rapper around 4:30 in the morning. The four reportedly snuck into the back and after a couple of minutes, only three of them walked back up to the front of the home by the side, while the fourth seems to have walked in the backdoor (but there was no camera in that area). That f...
deadmau5 and The Neptunes sent nu-disco shockwaves across the industry when they dropped their striking hit single “Pomegranate.” As the weeks went on, they passed the production torch over to French Original and Ninajirachi, who each delivered one-of-a-kind official remixes. To close out the “Pomegranate” chapter of deadmau5’s forthcoming LP, we’ve received the third and final remix by none other than the three-deck wizard himself, Carl Cox. The melding of four iconic producers onto one track was bound to be gold, and they proved not to disappoint. Cox delivers over six minutes of heart-thumping tech house flavors expertly crafted to support Pharrell’s iconic vocal stylings. He brings the track straight to the darkest of danc...
