This Metal Band Was Determined to Hit The Road During the Pandemic — Here’s Why It All Fell Apart

“Brother, I’m over it. I got songs to write… Time to focus on other things and how to be the best I can be, and finally be able to concentrate on music for a minute.” That resigned email on Thursday morning (July 9) from Wildstreet frontman Eric Jayk was the final nail in the coffin of the 36-year-old singer’s dream of being the first rock band to bust through the COVID-19 lockdown, and put on the safest, hardest-rocking shows possible for his U.S. fans. With 25 gigs in 30 days booked back in February for their Kings of the World Tour, as recently as June 23 the group sent out a press release announcing that they were hitting clubs across the country at a time when nearly every other live act was either postponing dates until 2021, canceling tours outright or moving...

The official music video for Tommy Lee‘s remix of the song “Tommy Lee” from Tyla Yaweh can be seen below. The track, which also features Post Malone, is said to be an ode to the MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer and his lavish lifestyle. Tommy told Army & Air Force Exchange Service‘s Facebook page about his involvement in “Tommy Lee”: “They asked me to do a remix [of the song]. I don’t know how much you know about remixes, but a lot of times, people will do a remix and you’re, like, somebody changed a few beats here and a little bit of this and a little bit of that and called it a remix. Well, this is like a ‘redo.’ We put on heavy guitars, I smash drums on it, bass, there’s some strings… It’s crazy. It’s like NIRVAN...

Chris “Motionless” Cerulli says that MOTIONLESS IN WHITE has completed work on “two projects” which will see the light of day in the coming weeks. Earlier today, he tweeted: “Just received the final mixes for two projects we are releasing this summer. I can’t wait for you to hear. All I’m going to say is ….. you should stock up on some Kleenex now ahead of time. He added in a separate tweet: “I probably should have stated that they aren’t new songs. The Prize Fighter Inferno Releases ‘Stray Bullets’ Video

While some acts have spent quarantine looking back at the music they’ve played, Claudio Sanchez, known best for Coheed and Cambria, brought his solo project, the Prize Fighter Inferno, back to life. And today (July 10), he dropped a new video for “Stray Bullets.” Featuring Weerd Science, the video is mainly a series of digitally illustrated images with close-up shots of Sanchez and Weerd Science in what look like television screens framing their clips. Either way, the visualizer sucks you in and takes you to a different place — even for a few minutes. “I have had this project sitting around for a while, and the only time I ever really release stuff is when it doesn’t affect Coheed and Cambria,” Sanchez told SPIN in May. “I feel a sense of guilt when I’m like, ‘Oh, I wanna go do this thing ...

Nick Cave Praises Nina Simone in Latest Red Hand Files Essay

While Nick Cave has admitted that he’ll likely not be coming out with protest or politically-driven music anytime soon, that doesn’t mean he won’t celebrate who does. In his latest entry for The Red Hand Files, Cave celebrates Nina Simone and her live recording of “My Sweet Lord.” Originally written and performed by George Harrison, the track was part of Simone’s 1972 live LP, Emergency Ward!, which showed her opposition to the Vietnam War. “Nina Simone’s interpretation of George Harrison’s gentle cosmic entreaty ends up, in her hands, as a howl of spiritual abandonment and accusation,” he wrote before doing an analysis of the song. Starting with the cheers for Simone at the beginning of the recording, Cave carefully points out the nuances and layers. “This rendition is a gospel thrill rid...

Alanis Morissette’s Dark New Single ‘Reckoning’ Takes on ‘Predators and Prey’

Alanis Morissette’s new single, “Reckoning,” has a darker message than anything that’s been released from Such Pretty Forks in the Road so far. The tune confronts “predators and prey” and has an overall dark vibe that’s accentuated by a string section. Recently, Morissette and the cast of Jagged Little Pill shared an at-home video for “Smiling.” She has also previously shared “Diagnosis.” And to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Jagged Little Pill, she released a digital reissue of the record. She also shared an acoustic rendition of “Ironic” from a show in London earlier this year. Prior to the pandemic, Morissette was supposed to tour with Garbage and Liz Phair as part of the Jagged Little Pill celebration and in suppo...

Massive Attack Call for Global Change on Audiovisual EP Eutopia

Massive Attack is back with Eutopia, their first music since 2016’s Ritual. The three-track record was inspired by Thomas More’s 16th-century text Utopia. Aside from the historical inspiration, Massive Attack brought on the talents of Algiers, Saul Williams, and Young Fathers as well as three political speakers — Christiana Figueres, who penned the UN Paris Climate Agreement; Guy Standing, who’s behind universal basic income theory; and Gabriel Zucman, the economics professor from UC Berkley behind the “wealth tax” policy in the U.S. Massive Attack talk about the new music in statement: “Lockdown exposed the best aspects and worst flaws of humanity. That period of uncertainty and anxiety forced us to meditate on the obvious need to change the damaging systems we live by. By working with th...
