Metallica’s James Hetfield Pays Tribute to Ennio Morricone: ‘Forever Think of You as Part of the Metallica Family’

Metallica’s James Hetfield took to Instagram on Monday morning to remember Oscar-winner Ennio Morricone, who composed 1966’s “The Ecstasy Of Gold,” which has opened the band’s shows for over 30 years. Morricone died Monday at 91 years old, and Hetfield writes that the legendary musician’s work had become “part of our blood flow, deep breathing, fist bumping, prayers and band huddle pre-show ritual.” “I have sang that melody thousands of times to warm up my throat before hitting the stage,” Hetfield wrote. “Thank you Ennio for pumping us up, being a big part of our inspiration, and a bonding between band, crew, and fan. I will forever think of you as part of the Metallica family.” Morricone’s career compositions span more than 500 films — including Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful ...

Aminé Drops New Single With Young Thug, Announces Upcoming Album

Back with the Young Thug-featuring single “Compensating,” genre shape-shifter Aminé is looking to give us the summer we so desperately deserve and has some big plans in mind.  The track, which released Monday morning, finds Portland’s hip-hop hero admitting his wrongs and throwing them over a poppy instrumental produced by Canada’s T-Minus.  And when Thug makes two separate Daffy Duck references in a song, it’s only clear that summer has truly begun.  With the new single dropping, Aminé also announced his latest studio album Limbo, as his first full-length project since 2018’s ONEPOINTFIVE. The record will feature the rapper’s recent track “Shimmy” and his latest Bad Gal anthem “Riri.” The album is set to drop on Aug. 7 with a presave available here.  Listen t...

Ted Templeman Is the Most Interesting Producer in Rock

The ubiquitous advertising campaign featuring “the most interesting man in the world” got it wrong. The most interesting man is indeed a debonair gray-haired gentleman, but he’s real: Ted Templeman, record producer of classics from Van Halen, Van Morrison, stellar non-Van’s including Captain Beefheart, The Doobie Brothers, Bette Midler, and many more. The 77-year-old Santa Cruz, California, native was a revered record executive and is a multi-instrumentalist, avid history buff and sublime teller of tales. There’s the one about, how, in 1969, after a gig with his band Harper’s Bizarre [they had a hit with a cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s “The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin’ Groovy)”] their TWA flight to San Francisco was hijacked. Understandably, Templeman still dislikes flying. There ar...

Earlier today, Todd tweeted: “More winning!!!! NEW: Florida sets state record in number of new coronavirus cases in a single day with 11,458. There have been 190,052 total cases of COVID-19 and 3,702 deaths in Florida since the outbreak began. #fuckthisplace” Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who has generally downplayed the significance of the spike in coronavirus cases in his state, drew criticism earlier in the week when he urged residents to go outside to enjoy Florida’s hot and humid weather because th...

Escape from Reality With CloZee’s Sophomore Album, “Neon Jungle”

Haunting vocals, tribal bass, and early morning bird calls: these are just a sampling of the diverse sounds seamlessly incorporated into CloZee‘s latest release, Neon Jungle.  Out today via her own Odyzey Music imprint, CloZee’s sophomore album triumphantly announces the French producer’s evolution past her signature “world bass” sound, pushing global sonic elements to the background of a melodically complex and emotionally nuanced aural fantasy world.  Neon Jungle‘s 10 tracks are cohesive yet distinct, each telling a separate story with proprietary samples and downbeat placements. The opening instrumental “Mirage” is dominating and dramatic, incorporating crunchy synths into its bass-driven bridge while the prev...
