Source: Jordan Brand / Jordan Brand If you tried to cop those ridiculously coveted Air Jordan 1 Dior sneakers, the odds were against you. Reportedly, 5 million people signed up to get a pair, but only 8,000 were available. Christian Dior Couture chairman and CEO of Pietro Beccari told WWD that 5 million people signed up for the raffle for a chance to cop either the LO (those were $2000) or HI version of the Air Jordan 1 OG DIOR that first appeared at the fashion brand’s Fall 2019 Men’s runway show in Miami. Idris Elba and The Knocks have joined forces to make sure everyone is having “One Fine Day” after releasing the new feel-good house anthem of the summer. The uplifting single comes to us via Elba’s own 7 Wallace imprint and features South London/Tanzanian artist Tiggs Da Author as well as vocals by The Wire actor himself. We’re getting a two for one deal, as Elba also provides a special “IE Edit” alongside the original.  The single features a beautiful array of organs, bright piano chords, and an infectious house beat. The optimistic lyrics, most poignant with the use of the Swahili word “tutafika,” meaning “we will make it,” has us feeling as if they can take on the world. It champions a mindset we could all u...

ZHU Joins Forces with Tinashe Again to Remix Her Single “Die A Little Bit” with Ms Banks

When ZHU and Tinashe released their hit track “ONLY,” it was clear these two had undeniable chemistry in the studio. The enigmatic producer is back to reinforce that point with his new remix of Tinashe’s “Die a Little Bit” featuring South London rapper Ms Banks. This is only ZHU’s second release of the year, both of which include the illustrious R&B songstress.  The original already felt as if ZHU was working behind the scenes with that dark, downtempo beat. In the remix, he actually dials up the tempo a bit, adding in dark drops with his signature ominous synth and piano work. The result is the ultimate late-night underground house track to get you moving this weekend.  From the looks of the social post below, we could also be re...

Get Your Red, White, and Blue on with Our 4th of July Patriotic Playlist

It’s Independence Day and that means American flags, barbecues, fireworks, and people decked out in red, white, and blue everything. To add to all that patriotic spirit, we’ve compiled a playlist of all the songs that are fitting for what the Fourth of July is all about from the worlds of electro, house, dance pop, and more electronic sub-genres.  Here’s a teaser: Louis The Child with Drew Love – Free The holiday celebrates America’s freedom from British rule back in 1776. Through a post break-up lens, Louis The Child‘s heart wrenching track “Free” shares the same concept of freedom. The two people in the song are free from a relationship that just didn’t work out.  Don Diablo feat. Jessie J – Brave America is known...

Sufjan Stevens’ Illinois Spins a Tale by the Everyman That’s Still Being Written Today

How does the story of America begin? When encapsulating the country’s essence in musical form, which is the best foot forward with such rich, yet charged, subject matter? The opening moments of a dozen different albums produce a dozen different answers, whether it be a Tom Morello riff or a Boris Gardiner sample. On July 5, 2005, it began with a piano song about a UFO. To be more accurate, it’s as plausibly a biblical allegory as it is an introduction to civilization from the perspective of extraterrestrial life, refracted through the same passage of history like light from a prism. Its abstract lyricism is only matched by its blunt emotional presentation, as gorgeous keys and fluttering flutes propel a chorus of voices — all directed by one unmistakable soft croon. Its owner? Sufjan Steve...

Axl Rose Calls on Surgeon General to Resign: “America Deserves Better”

Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose has called on US Surgeon General Jerome Adams to resign following a recent television appearance in which Adams seemingly prioritized Donald Trump’s personal approval over the personal safety of millions of Americans. When asked on The Today Show whether he’d advise Americans to go to a large gathering, such as Donald Trump’s various events during the Fourth of July weekend, Adams evaded answering the question directly. “It’s not a yes or no,” Adams said. “Every single person has to make up their own mind. There are going to be people going to beaches, going to barbecues, going to different environments. And they have to look at their individual risk.” (For context, Trump’s Fourth of July event at Mount Rushmore drew a crowd of several thousand, with few peo...

On Independence Day, Kanye West tweeted that he’s running for president. It’s not the first time the rapper has declared an interest in taking over the Oval Office. At the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, he announced at the end of his 11-minute Video Vanguard Award acceptance speech that he’s aiming for the highest office: “I have decided in 2020 to run for president.” It’s no surprise that wife Kim Kardashian is showing her support after his latest announcement. She retweeted the rapper’s July 4 message with an emoji of the American flag. Entrepreneur Elon Musk is also backing Ye, tweeting in response to West’s announcement: “You have my full support!” But how does the music community feel about Yeezy 2020? Reactions were mixed afte...
