Guns N’ Roses planned to be on the road right now, but like so many other bands their plans were thwarted by the coronavirus pandemic. Now, instead of rehearsing the hits, the band is using its downtime to work on new music. Slash recently gave fans an update on what he’s been up to during quarantine while chatting with music store Sweetwater. “I’ve been pretty much a homebody, but I’ve been back and forth between my studio in the house and doing a lot of writing and recording on my own,” he said. “I’ve been jamming with Duff [McKagan, bassist] and I’ve been jamming with Axl [Rose, frontman] and I’ve been doing stuff like that, so we’ve been getting some work done that way. But I haven’t been doing much else.” The guitarist added that he hasn’t worked on any other projects since ...
After announcing a new solo album called By The Fire a couple of weeks ago, Thurston Moore shared another track off the project on Friday. “‘Cantaloupe’ is a song about the dance of romance and surrealism, where the hallucinations of wild dreams come true,” the Sonic Youth founder wrote in the Bandcamp description. By the Fire is Moore’s latest project with the Thurston Moore Group, which features former Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley, My Bloody Valentine bassist Deb Googe, and guitarist James Sedwards. The album is slated for a Sept. 25 release on Moore’s Daydream Library Series label. Moore paired the album announcement with a song called “Hashish.” He also recently released a nine-minute-long instrumental track called “Strawberry Moon,”&n...
It’s been nearly a year since Ryan Adams broke his silence following allegations of abuse made by Mandy Moore, Phoebe Bridgers, and more women, and on Saturday the singer-songwriter penned a lengthy apology published in The Daily Mail, where he took accountability for his behavior and revealed he’s sober and working on new music. “There are no words to express how bad I feel about the ways I’ve mistreated people throughout my life and career. All I can say is that I’m sorry. It’s that simple,” he began his message. “This period of isolation and reflection made me realize that I needed to make significant changes in my life. I’ve gotten past the point where I would be apologizing just for the sake of being let off the hook and I know full well that any apology from me probabl...
Axl Rose has called on Jerome Adams to resign. The GUNS N’ ROSES singer made the comment hours after the United States surgeon general refused to give a yes or no answer when asked if he would advise people to attend large gatherings over the 4th of July weekend. Adams appeared on “Today” Friday (July 3) to talk about Fourth of July celebrations slated for Mount Rushmore and Washington, D.C., neither of which will make masks mandatory for people in attendance Asked by “Today”‘s Craig Melvin if he would “advise someone to go to a large gathering, yes or no,” Adams responded: “Craig, it’s not a yes or no. Every single person has to make up their own mind. There are going to be people going to beaches, going to barbecues, going to di...
President Donald Trump had a speech scheduled at Mt. Rushmore ahead of the 4th of July holiday. At the event, Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World,” “Like a Hurricane” and “Cowgirl in the Sand” were blaring over the speakers. Needless to say, Young was none-too-pleased. “This is NOT ok with me…” a tweet from Young read (Neil Young Archives is his official account). He also said that he stood with Lakota Sioux, who have said that Mt. Rushmore is carved into an area that is considered sacred land. If that wasn’t enough, Trump ended up playing “Rockin’ in the Free World” as he walked off stage, which is a move that is likely to get Young to respond again. Young is the latest musician to denounce the Trump campaign’s use of their music. In May, the Village People’s Victor Willis denoun...
Hundreds of teenagers were exposed to coronavirus during a beer pong tournament in Texas last weekend. The Star-Telegram reports that about 300 high school students participated in a “pong fest” tournament near Lakeway, Texas on Saturday, June 27th. Several of those who attended the event have already tested positive for coronavirus, while others are still awaiting to hear back on their test results. Regardless of the final number of positive tests, the sheer scale of the exposure is putting a strain on the local health system. “The city is trying to get a handle on who attended, and the numbers are so big, contact tracing everyone is not possible,” Lakeway Mayor Sandy Cox explained. “Hopefully we can contain this. The worst thing that can happen is that we don’t contain this.” Texas has e...
Music fans in the UK may get to experience live music sooner than some health experts have predicted. The country’s first socially distanced music venue, the Virgin Money Unity Arena, will allegedly open in Newcastle this summer, reports NME. The venue was created in a partnership between the teams behind This Is Tomorrow Festival, SSD Concerts, and Virgin Money. Using a series of mapped out “viewing areas” for individuals and small groups akin to raised platforms — each viewing area is at least two meters away from the other viewing areas surrounding it, generously abiding by social distancing measures — they were able to transform the outdoor space at Newcastle Racecourse into a music festival-style layout. Food and drinks can also be pre-ordered using a one-way system. Toilet facil...
Kyle Meredith With… Dreamers Listen via Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Play | Stitcher | Radio Public Dreamers frontman Nick Wold calls into Kyle Meredith With… to talk about the band’s latest single “Heatseeker” and the alternate version that features their friend Grandson. In fact, it’s not the first time the two have collaborated, having teamed up earlier this year for Grandson’s “Whole Lotta”, which inspired Wold to take a more philosophical and political turn within his own lyrics. Wold discusses what this new phase for the band means for his upcoming songs, taking influence from Nirvana and Royal Blood to go heavier, his love of sci-fi, and learning to play piano during this downtime. Kyle Meredith With… is an interview...
Jason Isbell contributed one perfect song to the 2018 A Star is Born soundtrack: “Maybe It’s Time”, sung by Bradley Cooper. Now, Isbell has shared his original demo of “Maybe It’s Time”, as well as the unreleased track “Alabama Sky”. Both songs are available on Bandcamp as part of the last fee-free Bandcamp Day. Bradley Cooper’s performance as alcoholic rock star Jackson Maine earned him an Oscar nomination. “Maybe It’s Time” was the character’s signature song, and Cooper’s singing was surprisingly good. But Isbell remains the better vocalist. The lyrics come out crisper, easier to hear, yet Isbell’s tone sounds much more conversational. Compared to the film, the demo is driven by a louder, brighter acoustic guitar, and Isbell’s delivery is so subtly emotional, it makes a well-kn...
Lady Gaga posted a selfie encouraging her 42.7 million Instagram followers to wear a mask amid the coronavirus pandemic. Along with the message, the pop star offered a look at her personal face mask: a glittery Chromatica-themed covering, with spikes and chains. “Be yourself, but wear a mask!” she wrote on Friday (July 3). “I believe in being kind to yourself, the community, and the planet. I challenge my awesome friends to show off their mask game!” “I need that,” Mark Ronson commented on her picture. The CDC says wearing face masks can help prevent people who have COVID-19 from spreading the virus to others, and recommends anyone over the age of two wear them in public settings or around those who do not live in one’s household. As promised, 6ix9ine released his new song “Yaya” Friday afternoon (July 3). The party-ready track sees him rapping and singing in Spanish, a departure from the previous English-language singles he’s dropped this year following his early release from prison. The vibrant music video was filmed while 6ix9ine remains on house arrest and features a whole lot of suggestive booty shaking and milk — and not much social distancing. “THIS IS THE BEST ONE I DID SO FAR,” he teased on Thursday, saying, “WE BREAKING THE INTERNET PARAAAAA MI GENTE LATINAAAAAAAAAAA LATINO AMERICA !!!!” “Yaya” follows the rapper’s recent singles “Gooba” and “Trollz,” the latter of which was released with Nicki Minaj and went to No. 1...
