Hayley Williams’ self-serenade Instagram series has undoubtedly been a bright spot in a pretty gloomy year, but all good things must come to an end (“for a while, anyway”). On Friday, the Paramore singer shared “the last of the self-serenades for a while, anyway” with a beautifully vulnerable cover of Radiohead’s “Fake Plastic Trees.” After revealing that “the top requested song” throughout her “self-serenadism” was by Radiohead, Williams admitted it “seemed sacrilegious at first until i realized that the band themselves have never once regarded what they do as precious or never-to-be-toyed with” via Instagram. “they are never beholden to any one version of their expression and public affections don’t...
There’s nothing quite like the feeling of discovering an amazing new song — just ask twin brothers Tim and Fred Williams, who have been documenting their first-time reactions while listening to classic hits on YouTube. The 21-year-old siblings, who post under TwinsthenewTrend, have gone viral in recent months for their “First Time Hearing” video series, where they have recorded their priceless reactions and commentary while discovering music by icons such as Dolly Parton, Stevie Wonder, and Queen. In late July, the Williams brothers — who grew up mostly listening to rap — posted a particularly memorable clip of themselves listening to Phil Collins’ 1981 debut single “In the Air Tonight” for the first time. {“nid”:”8528...

Yeah, I’m happy!” Haddish, 40, recently confirmed the couple’s relationship during an interview on Steve-O’s Wild Ride podcast. {“nid”:”9429090″,”type”:”post”,”title”:”Tiffany Haddish Confirms Relationship With Common & Reveals They 'Got Tested For Everything'”,”relative_path”:”\/articles\/co...
Spotify, Amazon, Pandora and YouTube have been handed a procedural victory on their appeal to a 44% royalty rate increase for songwriters and publishers, sources tell Billboard. The U.S. Court of Appeals in D.C. that reviewed the digital services’ appeal on the Copyright Royalty Board’s (CRB) mechanical rate determination has thrown out the rate structure cobbled together by a majority of the board’s three judges, Billboard has learned. The ruling, which is under seal, could wash away the rate increase that the CRB judges — in a split 2–1 decision — had awarded songwriters and music publishers in January 2018. The CRB ruling was finalized in February 2019 and appealed by digital services a month later on grounds of procedural issues with how the CRB determined...
Kanye West seems to be in good spirits these days. On Friday (Aug. 7), the 43-year-old rapper and presidential hopeful shared a playful video of himself recreating a viral video about celebrating the upcoming weekend, with the help of his family. In the clip, West is seen dancing alongside a moving golf cart with his 7-year-old daughter North to the song “Push the Feeling On” by the Nightcrawlers. Kim Kardashian can be heard laughing in the background as she encourages their son Saint, 4, to join in on the silliness. {“nid”:”9431471″,”type”:”post”,”title”:”Pregnant Katy Perry Recreates Viral Video for Orlando Bloom: 'It's Friday Then!'”,”relative_path”:”\/articles\/columns\/...
Kanye West’s presidential campaign might have just received its largest blow. As Chicago Tribune reports, the rapper’s name may not appear on the ballot in his home state of Illinois. In order to put his hat in the ring as an Independent nominee, West needed to submit 2,500 written signatures from in-state voters by July 20. He filed 3,218; however, 1,928 were ruled invalid following a state elections board review. West also recently withdrew his petition to appear on the New Jersey ballot for similar reasons. Ye’s lawyers have until August 21 to defend the disputed signatures with evidence, but according to Ed Mullen, one of the lawyers challenging West’s petition, the Chicago native “is virtually certain to be kicked off the [November 3] ballot.” As Consequence of...
Source: Ira L. Black – Corbis / Getty Nick Cannon had a mighty turbulent summer after making antisemitic remarks on his podcast alongside Professor Griff, formerly of Public Enemy. After making public apologies and educating himself, Cannon has seemingly put his support behind Kanye West and the Chicago producer’s 2020 presidential campaign. TMZ reports that Cannon was in Los Angeles at LAX masked up and turban intact, with Lion’s Share News making sure to get the entertainer’s thoughts on West’s longshot run at the White House this fall. From TMZ: Nick was at LAX Friday when the photog asked him what he thought of Ye’s run. Answer: “I love it!” Now, the photog took it a step further and asked if he’ll still be with Kanye when he casts ...
Source: Pacific Press / Getty Since June, Condé Nast has been contending with rumblings of a toxic culture at the international media company’s New York headquarters. And now, the two lone Black editorial staff members of Bon Appétit quit the culinary-focused magazine amid tensions over race. The New York Times reports that Ryan Walker-Hartshorn and Jesse Spark left the magazine this past Friday (August 7) after stating that their work at Bon Appétit was consistently undervalued. This comes on the heels of three other journalists of color stating openly they’ve opted out of appearing in the magazine’s video series because of payment disparities in comparison to their white counterparts. “I’m no longer going to be in an environment where my value is constantly underm...
Dave Chappelle has been spending the summer performing small, socially distanced gigs near his hometown of Dayton, OH as part of a series called Dave Chappelle & Friends: An Intimate Socially Distanced Affair. The shows spawned a new Netflix special called 8:46, and have seen a list of A-list artists come out of quarantine to share a stage with the comedian. Erykah Badu, Common, Michael Che, Tiffany Haddish, DJ Trauma, Michelle Wolf, Donnell Rawlings, Talib Kweli, Cipha Sounds, Questlove, Jon Hamm, Mo Amer, and Issa Ali all showed up for Chappelle’s 4th of July celebration, and earlier this week he had another big (albeit tarnished) name as the “special guest” of his latest gig: Louis C.K. Photographer Matthieu Bitton shared a photo on Instagram of Chappelle, C.K, Wol...
