Jay-Z Made In America Festival 2020 Officially Cancelled

Source: Bernard Smalls / @PhotosByBeanz You knew this was going to happen. Jay-Z’s annual Made In America Festival had been cancelled this year due to the coronavirus. Roc Nation issued a statement on Wednesday (July 1) announcing that it was officially grand opening, grand closing. “2020 is a year like no other,” reads part of the statement. “We are in a pivotal time in this nation’s history. Collectively, we are fighting parallel pandemics, COVID-19, systematic racism, and police brutality. Now is the time to protect the health of our artists, fans, partners, and community as well as focus on our support for organizations and individuals fighting for social justice and equality in our country. Therefore, the Made In America festival will be rescheduled for Labor Day Weekend 2021.” The MI...

‘You Don’t Deserve That’: Will Alyssa — And Her Baby — Be Treated Right On Siesta Key?

Alyssa was “ready to forgive” Alex for hooking up with Juliette “several several times” in Nashville. And during this week’s episode, the Siesta Key newbie learned she would soon be a mom with the King of Sarasota. First order of business for Alyssa: telling her parents Allison and Nick that they would soon be grandparents (viewers saw the rekindled lovebirds react to positive pregnancy tests at the end of last season as well). Nope, this isn’t the time for Rosé — and yes, Mom, this is “serious.” With her heart pounding, Alyssa simply nodded as her mother asked if she was pregnant. While Dad got up immediately to give his girl a big embrace and a hearty “I love you,” Mom was concerned for her daughter. “I’m still...

Joel Schumacher’s Fire: How The Batman Director Shaped The Past And Present Of MTV

By Aaron Cooley When director Joel Schumacher died at the age of 80 last week, the lion’s share of the media attention focused on his iconic four-decade filmography, from St. Elmo’s Fire and The Lost Boys in the 1980s, to two John Grisham adaptations and two Batmans in the ’90s, to Phone Booth and Phantom of the Opera in this century. And of course, his resumé includes his own personal stamp on the music video era of early MTV, with videos for INXS, Seal, U2, and Bush. But left largely anonymous — just the way he wanted it — was the work he actually considered the most important of his life. This was work he also did for MTV, and he did it all for free. When I started working for Joel as his assistant in 2002, there was no better perk of the job than traveling to New York at his side. Joel...

Asch Pintura on Her Livestream Series, Debuting on Anjunabeats, and SummerEyes Festival [Interview]

The conversation on American social injustice has caused ripples throughout America in recent weeks, but it’s also become a central topic across the globe. One person to witness this phenomenon firsthand is Asch Pintura, a New York-born DJ and producer currently studying at the University of West London. “For quite some time, the death of George Floyd kept my brain in a complete fog,” Pintura told EDM.com. “[But] I’ve been very moved by the outrage that I’ve seen over here in the UK.” Like she did during the COVID-19 pandemic, Pintura has experienced these issues entirely as an American living abroad. The sensation and call to action of protests related to Black Lives Matter in Europe, however, has helped her understand and cope with what is going on at home. “...

Nick Cave to Stream Solo Idiot Prayer Piano Concert

Nick Cave, like the rest of the music world, had to cancel his 2020 concert dates due to the coronavirus pandemic. And like everyone else (at least that’s what it feels like), Cave will livestream a performance. The set, titled Idiot Prayer: Nick Cave Alone at Alexandra Palace, will see Cave perform solo on piano. It was filmed last month at London’s Alexandra Palace. However, if you want to see the event, you better be ready to watch. It will take place live on July 23 and there won’t be any pausing, rewinding, or even saving the event to watch at a later date. According to a release, Cave play songs from his extensive back catalog, including rare tracks that most fans will be hearing for the first time. The songs those will in come from early Bad Seeds and Grinderman through hi...

Billie Joe Armstrong Shares Fiery Cover of John Lennon’s ‘Gimme Some Truth’

It’s been a while since Billie Joe Armstrong shared a cover from his No Fun Mondays and occasional song on a Wednesday. But he’s back with a song that’s fitting for right now. Late on Wednesday, the Green Day singer shared a fiery cover of John Lennon’s “Gimme Some Truth.” “This song was written by John Lennon. The first time I heard it was from one of my all-time faves Generation X!” Armstrong said in the post’s caption. ” My version lands somewhere in between.” Armstrong has created a pretty solid collection of covers including The Wonders’ “That Thing You Do!” from the 1996 film of the same out of tribute to the late Adam Schlesinger. He’s also covered Tommy James & The Shondells’ “I Think We’re Alone Now,” “Manic Monday” with Bangles singer Susannah Ho...

Los Coast, Gary Clark Jr Get Soulful on ‘A Change Is Gonna Come’

After touring the country with Gary Clark Jr. last year, it made sense for soul group Los Coast to enlist the guitar virtuoso for their latest cover of a ’60s classic. The Texas group and producer Jacob Sciba hit up Clark when they decided to cover Sam Cooke’s on “A Change Is Gonna Come” for charity a few months ago. And it wasn’t until Clark shared a story with vocalist Trey Privott that the decision became much more meaningful. “Gary told me a story about this man who called him from prison,” Privott says. “The man said that he listened to ‘A Change Is Gonna Come’ everyday to maintain hope as he got through his term. There are people like this all over the United States in our prison system. That’s what the song is about. It’s a cry for equality in the justice system. It’s a plea fo...
