Carl Cox Among Judges to Award COVID-19 Frontline Health Worker a Trip to Barbados

Not all heroes wear capes—some wear PPE and fight on the frontlines against COVID-19. One of those heroes is Rachael Faustino, an advanced nurse practitioner who, at 28 years of age, relocated hundreds of miles from Blackpool to London in order to help those at the forefront of the outbreak in the capital. As a reward for her valiant efforts, she was chosen as one of 20 winners of an initiative spearheaded by the Barbados Tourist Board to receive a free seven-night stay on the beautiful island. Faustino’s willingness to put herself in harm’s way, knowing that many doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers were catching the virus and dying from it, did not go unnoticed. She was nominated for the initiative and chosen by a panel of judges, including legendary DJ Carl Cox, who...

MYRNE Speaks to All the “Forbidden Lovers” with the First Single From His Upcoming EP

We’re living in a time in history where separation and isolation have become the new norm. It is also a time when laws that keep people from being with the ones they love still exist. Thus, there is no better opportunity than now for Singapore-based producer MYRNE to drop his new track “Forbidden Lovers,” a song that speaks to the physical and societal blockades that keep people apart.  “‘Forbidden Lovers’ is a love song dedicated to lovers currently separated,” MYRNE tells EDM.com. “I got the idea while I was away on tour, enjoying a view of the sky – and asked my partner to send me a picture of the same. I definitely tried to keep things as simple as possible, for this was one of the first few songs I wrote in which my ...

Full of Hell Unleash New Song “Language of Molten Cherubs” via Adult Swim Singles: Stream

A little over a year since releasing their Weeping Choir album, Full of Hell have unleashed a brand-new song. The band has unveiled the single “Language of Molten Cherubs” as the latest entry in the Adult Swim Singles program. As Full of Hell continue to push their music to uncompromising extremes, “Language of Molten Cherubs” is another burst of avant noise, free jazz rhythms, and harsh metal that defies convenient genre labeling. The band’s sonic concoction brims with ideas and layered overdubs, with frontman Dylan Walker’s voice cutting through the chaos. “‘Language of Molten Cherubs’ is the final death gasp of a broken human being at the end of their rope, on the border between worlds,” reads a press release for the song. It’s unknown if the track is a holdover from the Weeping Ch...

HBO Max Restores Gone With the Wind, With Historical Disclaimer

Two weeks after HBO Max pulled Gone With the Wind, the Oscar-winning film has returned to the platform, with a new historical disclaimer in tow.  The 1939 film is the recipient of ten Academy Awards, and ranks as the highest-grossing motion picture in American history (adjusted to inflation). Yet, in the eyes of some, the film’s depiction of Black characters as racist stereotypes who are cheerfully and gratefully subservient to the white characters is untenable in modern day America. On June 10th, HBO Max announced it was temporarily removing Gone With the Wind until the film could be prefaced by “a discussion of its historical context and a denouncement” of its ethnic and racial prejudices.” Such a discussion has now been added in the form of a four-minute featurette w...

Jenny Slate Leaves Big Mouth so a Black Actor Can Voice Her Character Instead

Netflix’s animated series Big Mouth is experiencing a new growth spurt. After spending three seasons voicing the role of Missy, a biracial tween, Jenny Slate has stepped down from the role so that a Black voice actor can have it instead. Slate revealed her decision earlier today in a lengthy statement posted to Instagram. In the post, she explains that she initially believed it was “permissible” to voice Missy in the Emmy-nominated series because the character’s mother is Jewish and white, which Slate herself is in real life. “But Missy is also Black, and Black characters on an animated show should be played by Black people,” her statement reads. Slate then acknowledges that she was “engaging in an act of erasure of Black people” and that both her receiving the role and her decision to acc...

South Park Arrives to HBO Max, Minus Five Episodes Which Mock Religion

South Park has a new home. As of today, June 24th, all 23 seasons of Comedy Central’s beloved animated series are streaming on HBO Max. Well, with the exception of five episodes. The five episodes in question — “Super Best Friends” from season five, “Cartoon Wars Part I and Part II” from season ten, and “200” and “201” from season fourteen — either feature or reference a character based on the Prophet Muhammad. HBO Max agreed to exclude the episodes from its platform when it first acquired the series from Verizon, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The same five episodes were previously pulled from television syndication and South Park‘s previous streaming home at Hulu. The decision to remove the five episodes is due to “safety concerns,” as South Park creators Trey Parker and ...

Boltons Unite: Listen to Michael Bolton Sing Excerpts From John Bolton’s New Book

In the past few years, Michael Bolton has evolved from a classic crooner to a semi-viral comedy star. He took that latter bit a step further on Wednesday night’s edition of the Late Show. Appearing in a segment on the Stephen Colbert-hosted program, Bolton was enlisted to sing a couple of excerpts from former National Security Advisor John Bolton’s book, The Room Where It Happened, about his time serving in the Trump administration. While the book has drawn gasps and criticism for its description of Trump, singer Bolton’s version was a lot more…comical. Featuring in a mock Audible commercial of the book, as the description says, it was “sung with heart and power,” singer Bolton makes the words of NSA Bolton sound more dramatic. Examples include “Trump begged President X...
