Matchbox Twenty Reschedules Summer Tour to 2021: See the New Dates
Matchbox Twenty announced the rescheduled dates for their U.S. summer tour today (June 22), which will run from July to October 2021. The major arena/amphitheater jaunt will now kick off in Uncasville’s Mohegan Sun Arena on July 16 and snake across the country before wrapping in Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl on Oct. 7. Ticketholders will be honored for the new dates but can still request a refund if they’re unable to attend. The Palms Casino Resort tour stop in Las Vegas is the only one that’s been canceled. It remains unclear if The Wallflowers will still accompany the Rob Thomas-led rock troupe for the four-month-long North American journey. Seal Remembers Joel Schumacher, Says Director Turned ‘Kiss From a Rose’ Into a Hit
Seal on Monday (June 22) told a story he said was not well-known about his classic song “Kiss From a Rose,” which Joel Schumacher helped make a huge hit. The director died Monday. He was 80. In a video that was more than five minutes long, the musician sang a few bars of his song before telling the story of how it was a flop in 1994 before Schumacher fell in love with it and used it on the soundtrack for Batman Forever in 1995. “It was the fourth single from my second album. It went into the charts at No. 60 and dropped to No. 80-something the next week and that was the end of it. It was over,” Seal explained. Ed Sheeran had a laid-back year in 2019, by his standards. But his music continued to pump solidly across the U.K. The English singer and songwriter was the most played artist of 2019, according to new data published this week by Phonographic Performance Ltd. (PPL), with fellow Brits Calvin Harris and Sam Smith close behind. It’s the fourth time in five years Sheeran has taken the top honor. PPL’s Most Played Charts are based on music usage and airplay data supplied by the organization’s licensees, including music both on radio and TV and at all live locations including clubs, shops, pubs and other premises. Following allegations of systemic racism within the organization, music hardware and software developer Native Instruments has publicly responded. The accusations, which initially appeared on LinkedIn, spawned a deluge of calls for the company to take action from many music industry professionals and artists.
