Illenium took to Twitter today to announce that he is releasing some of his own edits of tracks from his Ascend LP, his critically acclaimed third studio album released back in August 2019. Illenium has been teasing his “Tour Edits” for a while now, dropping them at the vast majority of his live shows after the release of Ascend. It seems that being stuck in quarantine has made him look at those past shows through rose-colored glasses. “Being stuck at home has me missing all of you and I hope this EP let’s us experience another show together,” Illenium wrote, accompanying his message with a “heart” emoji. Check out the announcement below. Along with the announcement, Illenium shared a snippet of the “Tour Edit” of his glo...

J.K. Rowling, photo via Facebook J.K. Rowling is making headlines again for her views on transgender individuals and issues. After some of her actions on Twitter sparked backlash in December, she again drew claims of transphobia over the weekend when she tweeted that “erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives.” Daniel Radcliff, star of the Harry Potter franchise based on the author’s best-selling book series, denounced the remarks in an essay published on The Trevor Project. Earlier today, Fantastic Beasts star Eddie Redmayne also distanced himself from Rowling’s views, stating, “As someone who has worked with both J.K. Rowling and members of the trans community, I wanted to make it absolutely clear where I stand. I disagree with Jo’s c...

Juanes was in Colombia, ready to perform for his fans at a sold-out Bogota show when the coronavirus outbreak caused businesses to close, concerts to cancel and airports to stop operating. Since March 13, he’s been hunkered down in Miami with his family, reorganizing and trying to understand the new reality. “My values and priorities are different now,” he said to NPR’s alt. Latino Felix Contreras during the Latin Alternative Music Conference on Wednesday (June 10). “It changed me and changed the way I’m going to create music in the future.” In his latest studio album, Más Futuro Que Pasado, released before the pandemic, the Colombian artist experimented with different sounds. At that time, he was certain of the path he wanted to take his music and lyrics. But because of quarantine a...
Alicia Keys asked her 30 million Twitter followers one question: “Do you know what happened to Breonna Taylor?” In a nearly three-minute video posted today (June 10), Keys led a crucial call-to-action video that featured Tamika Palmer, who recalled the brutal murder of her child. Taylor, a Kentucky-based EMT, was fatally shot eight times in her home on March 13 after three Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) officers broke in using a “no-knock” warrant. “They fired 22 times, eight of those bullets landed in the body of the most essential worker I will ever know,” Palmer said about her late daughter. “Now the whole city is mad, now the whole world is mad. Breonna should not be dead. Some days, I feel like I can’t breathe without her...

Last month, MoneyBagg hurled out the deluxe album for Time Served, which included seven new tracks. Features include Lil Baby, Rylo Rodriguez, Big Homiee G, and Big 30. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department might see money from Drakeo the Ruler’s latest album before he does. Thank You for Using GTL was recorded over the phone from the county’s Men’s Central Jail using phone service from GTL (formerly Global Tel*Link), a company that controls about half of the market for telecom services in correctional facilities. Their exorbitant rates, which extort families’ access to inmates, have been under fire from politicians and advocacy groups alike, but persist largely because they cut sheriffs in on the scam. The company has guaranteed the L.A. County Sheriff millions of dollars each year in fees, providing plenty of incentive to keep the predatory systems in place. This context is important because GTL is more than just a symptom of a corrupt capitalist ...
RATING: 8/10 Hats off, as they say, to MAGNUS KARLSSON. The Swede already has plenty on his plate, what with being lead guitarist for PRIMAL FEAR and routinely charged with putting together projects for FRONTIERS MUSIC, the recent ALLEN/OLZON album included. In fact, it’s impressive that Karlsson has found the time to revisit his FREE FALL project, which has produced two previous albums, 2013’s self-titled debut and 2015’s “Kingdom Of Rock”. You may applaud the metal gods for allowing him to complete a third installment, because “We Are The Night” is easily the finest of the three and arguably the most straightforwardly thrilling thing Karlsson has ever put his name to. As with its predecessors, this was performed almost entirely by its titular cre...
